wonderful nose of rose pedal, cedar, brown sugar and dried sage, balanced mouthfeel, mature and long on the palate, shows some leather, tobacco and spice, fruit still holding up, integrated tannins and oak compliment the flavors and create a smooth, powerful, and harmonious experience, truly special, great value

This was the house red provided in copious quantities by the elegant and generous hosts of a big fall soup party. The Georg Rafael is a distinctly old school and un-Napa cab that comes out of a small production estate site in the Mt Veeder area. It featured deep black fruit intertwined with tobacco and earth from the nose through the finish. It just bristled with delicious dark Cabernet characteristics not associated with super extraction or oak treatment. Wonderful.

Dark purple. Rich nose, tending toward plum. Full, old fruit on the palate, with a nice finish. The wine tastes older than 1999, which I thought was interesting. Very nice.

Just back from my annual wine tasting and purchasing trip in Napa and surrounding valleys. Bought 65 different wines but the best of the bunch was a tip from a friend on a small unknown winery. Georg Rafael Vineyards in Napa Valley. “Rafael – Pere & Fils – Domaine Georg” 1999 Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine is as good as any $100 dollar wine I have had the last few years. I paid $30 – bought 5 cases – it is worth your investigation.
