Slow ox'ed for 4 hours but wine needed some more time in the open bottle to show its best. Dark garnet almost to the rim. Initially plenty of dark berries, sous bois and a slight mustiness on the nose. Later the wine started to show spices and some secondary notes. On the mid palate a touch thin but still very good / enjoyable. Fine but sandy tannins. Finish rather short. Worked very well with steak and great QPR and great 1999. 90-91
Dinner with Friends (San Francisco, CA): Deep ruby but a bit cloudy; wonderful nose with green eucalyptus, olive, wonderful red and black fruits, fresh nose; palate is full bodied, wonderfully integrated tannins, fresh red fruit, great acidity and balance; medium-long finish. Superb. 93-95

(Chateau Sociando-Mallet Haut-Médoc) Tasted at the domaine over lunch. Good colour, showing some early maturity. The nose is quite supple and composed, showing the scents of iron and maturing fruit, in a very clean and bright style. On the palate, lovely texture, full and fleshy, with gentle tannins still fading and giving a nice supporting layer, and with fresh acidity. Very impressive for the vintage. Very good style. Approachable now but still on the way up for sure.
