  • This wine had a good quality cork that removed easily. There seems to be a little fine sediment stuck to the side of the bottle, but nothing significant. This has been in good storage since purchase.

This has a really delicious aromatic profile – very complex and intriguing; it is fruit forward but balanced by notes of burning embers, crushed black berries, wet autumn leaves.

Mouth feel is round, distinct, big in the mouth with a hint of alcohol heat and a slight astringency on the finish; flavors are rich yet somewhat racy due to good acid balance; crushed blueberries, plum skin, soil elements, hint of leather and chocolate, underbrush, crushed rocks and black raspberries dominate the palate with a rich wash of flavor. The slight bitterness that I detected last night seems to have now been replaced by a slight astringency that, combined with its finishing acidity, is very food friendly. Despite the size of this wine, it also has a pleasing sense of transparency that I appreciate; this is not the fruit bomb that one would expect: this has some class.

This was not a good match with the lemon chicken that S had for leftovers last night, but it WAS tasty with the “dirty rice” with mushrooms, as one might suspect! This wine needs meat – a rich pork shoulder roast would go nicely or braised spareribs. I suspect it might overpower a juicy steak, but Oso Bucco … Oh, Yes!

  • Wonderful, full bodied, rich flavor. Perfect with a med-rare steak, as well as on its own

  • Agree with most previous tasting notes regarding color and nose. Did not get any sweetness as mentioned in one TN. This wine has aged beautifully. Kept getting better as we drank.

  • Pop and pour. Tobacco, coffee, dark fruit, oak on the nose. Big wine with that drinks hot at first but settles down the longer it is open. There is a sweetness to the wine - port-like at times. Low acid and tannins.

  • Deep, dark and opaque with inky burgundy hues that show a high level of concentration. High viscosity and bright reflections.
On the nose nutty aromas of toasted walnut and hazelnut skins forefront of the concentrated boysenberry, blackberry, and black plum aromas that incorporate ancillary notes of anise, dried leaves, chocolate, espresso and lighter touches of cigar and a western forest after the rain.
On the palate Flavors translate from the nose. Framed by roasted walnut, hazelnut and chestnut flavors that are bold and backed by extracted boysenberry, blackberry and plum notes that lean toward the prune side; further reinforcement from flavors of cigar, bitter chocolate and espresso. Acidity is moderate as are the drying, slightly dusty tannins. The finish lingers with date and nut flavors.
    An extracted style.
