  • Presented with a lot of youthful structure. With a Half hour in decanter and half hour in glass it started to loosen up. As so it became better integrated and started to showing some beautiful sweet red fruit mixed with typical darker notes and some white pepper.

  • Heck, 8 years since I had a bottle of this, and the one I opened last night was the final one left in my cellar. It had been resting there for the past 8 years. Decided to give it a whirl. Plenty of sediment caked to the side of the bottle with the long rest it has enjoyed. Didn't seal this up last night but instead just left it on the counter without the cork, so it's had plenty of air. Purple flowers, very aromatic with bacon fat and a pinch of heat (says 14.5% on the label, with this site always the highest stuff Wells made). Red and black fruit, both are verging on the riper side for me. Tarry, some garrigue, spicy red and fresh acidity, which has held up in the wine well for what is now 15 years. This has a juicier profile, the weight seems managed pretty well, too. There is a lot of Wells' style in this wine, with the style coming through in the weight, fruit colors (red is here, as much as black) and overall I like it. As for aging, with the air this has seen, it's polished and seems ready to go.

  • Bright cherry red color. Black cherries, bit of pepper on the nose. Smooth, deep fruit, black cherries, blackberries. Got brighter with air. Beautifully resolved tannins, perfectly balanced acidity. Finishes long with blackberries and spice. Beautiful wine. No need to wait but can be drunk over the next 6 to 8 years.
