Beautiful Riesling! Presents very well right now, has lost a bit of acidity, but still nice to drink right now. Intense stonefruit, coupled with good minerality. On the nose a tad sweeter than when you drink it.

not blind Not a perfect bottle, a bit too evolved. I had it fresher in the past. Still very good aged Riesling but could be fresher and younger. To the saltieness there are yellow stone fruits, not too ripe. A bit of honey. 92-93

Online Blind Tasting #4: *** brief notes from online blind tasting *** Note is based on a tasting sip in the morning on day one, ~4cl on the evening and 0,1l filled in a bottle and sealed with argon gas on the evening of day three. Glass: Zalto Universal From perfect bottle. Clear, medium golden color, a bit deeper than the Kellerberg before. Clean, medium+ intense, developing nose. Sweet fruit, cotton candy, crushed stones. Round and balanced. Dry with noticeable residual sugar (or perhaps extract and sweet fruit or a combination of it). Medium+/high acidity. 13% abv. Lots of sweet, ripe yellow fruit, some herbs, very mineral. Missed the “darker”, smoky notes of the Morstein a bit. Creamy texture, lots of extract, phenolic, dense and deep. But also, round and soft, good balance. With time and air it developed a nice pressure. Long fruity and mineral finish. Even though it is a bit too sweet for my taste, it is certainly a very good GG, that can develop for some more years. 92-93+

(Wittmann Westhofener Morstein Riesling Trocken Grosses Gewächs, Rheinhessen) Elisabeth and Günter Wittmann began growing organically in 1985, and son Philipp instituted Biodynamic viticulture in 2004. A complete tasting of his ’08s demonstrated the vintage’s extremely high acidity, which demands long-term cellaring. The Kirchspiel and Brunnenhäuschen bottlings are both outstanding, but my top choice is the grand cru Morstein, with its intense minerality and pungent herbal aromas. Immense minerality echoes on the dense palate, with boundless yellow fruits ripped through by the acidity, and carries through on the remarkably long finish. Hot Picks

Aramasa (plus some Rieslings) (Private Cellar): PNP into 薄はり葡萄酒器 ("No" day): Deep golden to the eyes.
Less dominant and more elegant fruit here. Less forward with a more balanced structure opening up nicely in the second pour.
This is the best showing of this wine thus far through many samples over the years. 95 points.
