  • Wow! I don’t drink a lot of Gruner Veltliner, and have to confess that FX Pichler is not one of my go to Austrian producers, but this bottle is drinking great today. Full-bodied for a white, almost unctuous on the palate, yet balanced, with great persistence on the finish. Might just be the best GV I have ever tried. Unfortunately, my last bottle. This doesn’t feel old or tired at all, so one can only guess how much longer it might age, but if you have more than one in your cellar, do yourself a favor a pull a cork on one, because right now it’s drinking so well that you shouldn’t miss it.

  • Bronze-colored in the glass; grilled peach on the nose - very interesting nose here.

Medium-bodied, maybe a little less acidity than I normally prefer, but otherwise not bad at all. I have had mixed experiences with wines from the 2000 vintage in Austria, but this is very drinkable. Decent persistence as well.

  • Wine dinner at Blacksalt - Prévost, Krug, Pichler, Raveneau, Fevre, Grivot, LLC, Yquem & etc. (Blacksalt, Washington DC): This seems significantly further advanced than the 99 served in the flight. Dense sweet yellow fruit driven nose, apricot, pineapple, smoke and sweet spices. Very good concentration, sweet tropical fruit driven palate impression, chewy and waxy, a bit clumsy and medium finish. It got better with air but remained heavy and slightly dull especially compare to the 99.

  • A bit amped-up, consistent with my experiences with the F.X. Pichler style. Golden yellow color, lots of fruit, mostly tropical, a bit of honeyed sweetness. Some smokiness, a little but not a lot of the pepper for which the vineyard is noted. That said, we thoroughly enjoyed drinking every drop of this (paired with sauteed softshell crab and fresh catfish fillets) and I am eager to taste through some of my other Kellerberg bottlings and to buy more from this esteemed site.

  • Drinking beautifully now with a patina of mature smoky and creamy flavours over ripe green fruits tinged with herbal and peppery accents. Complex and layered with plenty of richness, great balance and persistence.
