As someone who is generally lukewarm on new world Pinot Noir, this really hits the sweet spot. It's undeniably new world, with a warm and sunny demeanor, , full of spicy complexity, obviously Pinot, but a personality all its own. Better than Peay, Mt. Eden, Rhys, etc. and cheaper than all of them.

I'm starting to think I could drink almost nothing but Joseph Swan Pinot Noir with a bit of age on it. So complex, so deceptively rich, and with the positive development in the glass, I'd say plenty of life left, but I'm enjoying them immensely now. Bing cherries, wet slate, and cola on the nose, with just a hint of heat on this one (warm vintage perhaps the culprit). Very strong acidity on the palate, with a real blast of brightness with that acidity - tongue-smacking brilliance. Some weight, but overall brightness dominate. A finish that builds for a short while - always a trait I enjoy in wine - then fades gracefully. Fruit is crisp, dry, bright, mostly red fruited, hints of blueberry on the finish. Brilliant - one of few '07 wines I enjoy this much.

13.7% alcohol. Light cherry color. Pretty, complex nose of red and black cherry, baking spice, and earthy notes. In the mouth, elegant and very refined, with pretty fruit gliding across the palate, supported by impressive complexity. Moderate acidity and a smooth, elegant finish that sails on. A-

Great wine. The color tells you this will be a light, reticent Pinot, but it's extremely powerful and expressive on the nose, with a palate to match. In a great place right now - drink up if you have it!

I wish I had given this wine a bit more time in the bottle. It came off as a bit closed; after an hour or two it began to show a bit more but had the acid and tannin present to give it a nice long life. Basic dark and red fruit flavors with a bit or bramble, a hint of tartness and a slight amount of earth. While I wasn't floored by the wine, I am always impressed with Swan's sense of balance.
