This was the ringer in a CT Seattle tasting of 7 Soos Creek wines tasted single blind - all the others were from the 2013 vintage. I missed this completely as an older wine - the berry and herbs said Cab, but the oaky finish had me thinking this was a 2013 Cab. My 7th of 7 wines, also the group's 7th of 7 wines (my scoring band was very tight, so the ordinal ranking for me was less meaningful).

Let's take another look at this producer. I used to buy their wine because I thought they were a very solid cab producer at a very reasonable price point. I was right. I opened it Monday night and it had a restrained but elegant nose with black cherry and black currant flavors in the mouth - a bit of smoke and that hint of baking chocolate often found in good Washington cab. Pretty balanced with fine, dusty tannins. It sat uncorked on my table until Wednesday night and it was gorgeous. Soft and elegant, but with a brooding depth to get lost in. Really lush, smooth, black fruit flavors but with a streak of ripe plum. Time to buy more Soos Creek.

Classic CA Cab. Great depth and purity of black fruit with some cassis and earth. No oak. Good balance and not flabby.

Classic Wa cab, all sweet, lush black fruit in balance with a nice chocolate and fruit finish. Paired oh so well with the tenderloin.
