At the Lafite Vertical Dinner, Amuse Bouche Hong Kong - Served after 17 vintages of Lafite, so I suspect that maybe a little fatigue had set in! The Madeira nuttiness was evident here but I think I prefer the sweetness of the Malmsey as this was a little bitter.

First Growths, Yquem, 100+Madeira (John V.'s): Wow. An amazing experience that can not be separated from the wine itself. This was decanted at 10:00 in the morning and served at 9:30pm. Iced tea in color. The nose is incredible with "tootsie rolls", oranges, tea and a slight date note. Complex and layered on the nose and the palate. Smooth with just a hint of alcohol. Great texture. Layer after layer of fruit and candy and tea. Long finish. We were so blown away by the wine, that we hardly discussed what was going on in 1860. Lincoln had not yet even been President. This was gown on pre-phyloxera vines. A real treat to have.

NM Lafite. Quite dark. Not the aromatically intensity of the best and a bit bitter.
