  • Holy Moly Amarone (DP's, Goose Hollow, Portland OR): This was firing on all cylinders from the second I put my nose to the glass. There is a lot of poise and depth with flowing tones of menthol, bitter chocolate, black cherries, fruitcake, raspberries, prunes, figs, cranberries, and a whole lot of violets. The Full bodied feel is pure silk and poise with medium acidity and resolved, medium tannins. I was floored when this was revealed. While it certainly felt like it was mature, to expect it to be going into its 45th year was just amazing and a wonderful experience.

  • A bit tart at first, further time in the glass allowed the mineral notes and fruit to come through. A total treat to taste this along with a few of my class of '79 college buddies. Still several years left to enjoy this wine at its peak, assuming well stored.

  • Gorgeous deep amber/ruby color with fading edges. Fascinating nose of ripe dark cherries, forest floor, ether and dark spices. Quite full and rich for a 35-year old wine with deep, satisfying flavors of decadent cherry fruit along with hints of tree bark, dark spices and wet, decaying forest. The finish is ultra-complex and intense with crisp acids and fabulous notes of raisins, smoke, dark spices, char and leathers. The alcohol is high and present throughout but doesn't really affect the tasting experience. Still fairly young, this funky, unique wine is a joy to drink at this age.

  • An extremely big wine, which does not appear to be past its prime in any way. This wine is still very structured, and its tannins are still very prevalent. 15% alcohol. Was bottled in 1989, and this shows in its relative freshness compared to the 1962 and 1967. A very remarkable wine.
