Ripe, tart black fruit. Good concentration, but on the firm/austere side, with lots of silky tannins that are nevertheless drying. Finishes with a long interplay of fruit and earth. Delicious and unusually ripe for the vintage, but if I owned more I would be worried that the fruit isn't going to outlast the tannins.
Btw, it's remarkable how spot-on Meadows' note from 13 years ago is for this wine.

Mark Lipton isn't far off. Still a bit young, IMHO. Given the vintage, however, maybe not. I'd like the acidity to soften a bit, but possibly that's a forlorn hope in 2008. Quite intense, good flavors, depth. The very tiniest bit shrieky.

Similar to my last note, only better. More open and expressive, after spending about an hour in the glass (Coravin’d, so effectively PnP). Would’ve given this a 93 but the finish doesn’t linger quite as long as one would hope (there’s a hint of oak on the finish that’s actually a bit drying).

Second Sunday Group: 1990 Burgundies (Neil's): Deep ruby color with notes of cherry and earth with a subtle smoky undertone. Medium body. Loads of cherry and red pinot fruit on the palate, with earthy accents and a hint of spice in the finish. Still quite lovely, with plenty of life ahead. (PB)
