  • Dark crimson color with auburn rim. Nose of citrus peel, cedar wood and licorice. The palate is smooth but flavorful in a mature way, with residual fruit balancing the subdued earthy notes. This is not one of the all-time greats, but has aged gracefully and retains a gentle charm that makes this worth drinking for more than just academic reasons. Perhaps more indicative of the strength of the vintage than the vintner (no offense)? As this is slightly over-the-hill, it would be best to enjoy in the very near future.

  • I have a sense that this would have been a very nice wine 5-10 years ago. Unfortunately, it is past its prime and is now lean, thin, and stripped of most of its character. Even so, the longer I spend with it, the more I can get an afterburn of a wine that was well made and classy.Pumped and kept out for 2 days, after which time the wine was actually better, causing me to upgrade my score a bit. Bordeaux is always Bordeaux, and never ceases to amaze.

  • Right out of the bottle this scored an 88 with fading reverberations of spearmint and well water, but within fifteen minutes it had deteriorated to something charmless.

  • Clearly past its absolute prime, but just as clearly still in good shape. From what I can gather, Moulis tend to age well, and this bottle was consistent with such an assumption.

Opened well in advance (1 hr) and then decanted for service. Upon opening, sort of funky and musty, perhaps some cork taint. I added some plastic wrap to the decanter (second time I have done this), and it seemed to clear that up. I am not certain is this plastic wrap thing is for real, or if itis some "old wino's" tale. Regardless, the bottle drank well after all this. The nose was not that pronounced (or that pleasant -- not bad, just not that good), but it was very flavorful in the mouth and was nice and smooth As you might imagine, all the tannins were resolved. There was not too much of that Bordeaux sweetness that you get with some (better) bottles, but it was perfectly pleasant.

  • Creamy and round. Soft tannin. Completely ready now. Although 1982 is a much better vintage than 1981 in Bordeaux, for this domain the 1982 is disappointing compared to the 1981. Nevertheless a nice wine.
