OK, this is the end of an era for me. This wine was how I was introduced to the big Aussi Shiraz. It was made by the Marquis husband / wife duo. And was absurdly big and fruit and smooth. You have to be in the mood and this is not in style any more. But here we are 23 years later and it is still drinking beautifully, giving the big leather and meat vibe. My last bottle. I've tried the more recent vintages (not Marquis) and although good, they are not quite the 'experience'.

Day 1: Bottle is on the uglier side but the cork came out perfect. Really nice with sour berries, eucalyptus, black pepper, soy, plum, exotic spices and road tar. Long finish and super complex wine. This wine is firing on all cylinders. 95 points Day 2: Still big wine with blackberries, black pepper, spices, tar, blueberries, eucalyptus and coffee beans. Long finish and complex. A true bargain for an aged wine at $65 with shipping. Wish I had bought more. 95 points Recommendation: If you can get a hold of these via auction they are a steal. Also recommend the 05 Cab which was amazing in the fall.

Ok the score is a little high for nostalgia. The last time I drank this was in 2009. I had been blown away with this wine and it led me to a flurry of Aussi wines. This being one of the best. Following vintages never lived up to this. And now? Its still hanging in there. Too big a wine to use with food. Big tobacco, leather and ripe plum flavors. I think it is near the end of its drinking window so drink up. Its almost port like now
Still going strong after 20 years! Dark garnet, opaque. Very powerful earthy black fruit aromas, complex, some notes of plums and mocha. Big, full-bodied, loads of fruit still present, no brown at the edges and no hint of prunes in the aromas. Very long aftertaste. The American oak comes through with some vanilla. Time to drink up, though. Ric

No where near dead, took 15 minutes or so for the alcohol to blow off, but was enjoyed by all for what it is, a big Aussie fruit bomb.
