  • Have trust in this one. Subtile start, but within a couple of hours it's very good. Lost some of it's power, but just amazingly balanced, still with with acid and power left in it. Amazing craftmanship, and a very underestimated winery.

  • Magnum bought at auction 5 years ago. Cork very wet and fragile (using the Durand wasn’t an issue). Dark maroon color with immediate warm smell of raisins and prunes. Decided to decant. After two hours and at 18c tasted it. Surprisingly fresh with a touch of sweetness and some light bitterness to it. Alcohol present but not in a harming way. Nose confirms the raisins/prunes/figs, some tea leaf, cranberries, cinnamon and earthy notes. Not unpleasant and after another 30m in the glass really getting back to life. Overall a very classic Amarone from one of the better growers. Enjoyable.

  • Wow! Still full of life!! Nose is loaded with sandlewood incense, rich, roasted fruits, figs and compotes. Not a hint of heat or oxidation. Rich and compact. Moderately tannic and with good acidity. This is an absolutely beautiful bottle of wine that is still drinking extremely well. Dark chocolate, espresso and spice complete the dried fruit palate. This is DELICIOUS!! 95 df 9.5

  • Brought to restaurant, so no formal notes. This was popped and poured and consumed over two hours, and the final glass was certainly the best. The aromas were relatively vibrant, but there were certainly some older booky aromas here... but again, primarily fresh, showing nice fig notes, bright briar and some sweet herbal fruit. Palate was relatively light to medium bodied for a "modern" (post 1970s) Amarone, showing pleasing acidity and fig tones. What started out as slightly acidic on the finish on first pour turned into an acidic punch by the time the last glass was poured two hours later. Really lovely intensity with nice fig notes, sweet fruit and that killer acidity that left this lingering on the palate for quite some time. A fairly nice wine, but still without the depth or profundity of a top tier wine, which I'd think this can reach for. It just doesn't quite have the intensity or depth of the best wines. Look forward to trying some of my younger vintages soon, as I'm leaning towards believing these wines need to be consumed on the younger side. The stuff from the '60s and '70s have aged beautifully, but these Bussolas seem to tend to drink better in their relative youth.

  • 2 hr decant, black as night, flavors much redder in nature than the visual aspect. While a quite large scaled wine there wasn't anything out of balance and showed no heat. Fairly viscous, this just didn't offer much complexity and while it's been 11 years since the last bottle all I can say is that it's more resolved. Some raisin and fig components but not major. I don't think this would get much better if at all but also don't think it's falling apart either. Drink up, it's good for deeply flavored food.
