Niepoort LBV Vertical - Pre 2000 wines: Packed with black pepper and black cherry fruit. Very dense and compact wine with lots of potential. A crazy wine.

Cork, from a 375ml bottle. Lovely ruby robe colour and sweetish prune and syrupy nose. Very smooth on the palate and I didn't puck up on any unwelcome heat. Medium length finish. Very satisfying LBV port for the price, nicely mature and good value.

Still drinking very nicely (and from a half bottle). Plenty of rounded fruit still showing and no signs of tiredness. A really nice example of "mature" LBV.

Cork. 1/2 bottle. Opened and poured as LBV - surprising amount of sediment for an LBV. Dark dense colour with the classic ruby tinge at the rim. Rich plum and stewed fruit flavour with the right combination of sweetness and acidity to make this a very satisfying after dinner drink, with or without cheese. Slight whiff of heat blew off after 1/2 hour or so. Excellent wine but not quite outstanding. Plenty of life left for the patient.

Nice LBV. Dark red color, a but light on the nose, plummy and rad cherry flavor with a bit of medicinal.
