Bought and opened a 375. I disagree with the reviewer who found tannin in the bottle, but otherwise, I agree with most of what's been written. I found slightly sweet (in a good, LBV way) fruit, especially figs and dark cherries. Easy drinking, the 19.5% doesn't really come through, and the long taste of heavy things (tobacco? mildly roasted apricot?) stays and is enjoyable.

Late Bottled Vintage (LBV) is a style of port produced from a single vintage, but differs from vintage port in that it is usually produced every year, not just in those years declared to be of outstanding quality. It is said that the style was born of a mistake, when a vintage port was kept in barrel for too long and was no longer suitable for release in that category. Today, Niepoort absolutely dominates this category with the most consistent ports I have come across year after year.
Medium garnet in the glass, showing some thick-ass tears when swirled. Enticing aromas of ripe red cherries, wizened figs, molasses, some dusty earthy tones, a little bit of blackberry jam, light peppery tones, a perfumed hint of hibiscus and a touch of blueberry liqueur. Mouth-coating greatness, a tad hot, but this integrates nicely as it comes in contact with the acidity. Moderate tannins. Rich, smooth finish that goes full-on tertiary - tones of raisins, dried dates and tobacco. Drink now or keep for up to a decade.

Absolutely delicious but not memorable either.

Wine Ark Boys supps (Bistro Felix, Ash Street): Note taken a long time after the event but my recollections are of plummy, figgy joy with some tannic burr. Nice.
