  • Gran bella bottiglia.

  • Jeff’s: Tabacco, orange peel, tar, asphalt notes; silky smooth, expansive in the mth, and big, but refined t’s. Very nice indeed.

  • Orange/brown rim, reddish center in the glass. Nose and taste evolves a lot in the glass, this bottle was not decanted but just uncorked and poured (shame on me!). On the nose a sweet feel, dark cherries, tar, tobacco, very fine and classic nebbiolo. Seems mature and ready for business. On the palate this wine is a bit tannic and seems less mature but will the fruit stay there and gain control? Plums and an tangy touch, iodine and more tar. More dark cherries and tobacco. I'll leave the last bottles to see if it improves with 2-5 more years. A fine barolo, a pleasure to drink but not outstanding.

  • Tar, roses and cedar. The flavours were all very savory and acidity still quite noticeable. It had nice length and was extremely dry. A good food wine.

  • Piedmonte, Italy
We had this wine at Felidia's in New York. The wine was opened and decanted for 30 minutes before serving in Spiegelau Balloon glasses (not sure of the line of glasses; definitely not Authentis or Vino Grande). A fair amount of sediment was left in the bottle from decanting. Some was present in the glass as well. Nice amber color in the glass, especially around the edges. Wonderful cigar box nose that was somewhat remenicent of a vintage port such as the 1995 Quinto de Vesuvio. This wine still possesses very firm tannins with a fair amount of acidity. Flavors of raisins with a hint of cappuccino. The tannins finally started to tame and the wine showed best around 1 ½ hours after it was opened. I would peg this wine around 88-90 points. This was a fairly nice effort for such a difficult vintage. If you were lucky enough to buy this on release for around the $45.00 release price you have yourself a pretty nice Barolo. I would drink now or over the short term with decanting.
