  • Kleur: Medium goudgeel.

    Google Translate:

Color: Medium golden yellow. Aroma / bouquet: The tertiary bouquet of a 'worthy greyish'. Opened (far) after the drinkability horizon (2016). Mature tones. Overripe pineapple, roasted (buttered) corn cob, licorice and even a hint of cinnamon. Taste / Aftertaste: A meanwhile low acidity, logical for the age of this wine. Filling the mouth, filming and very juicy. Retronasal impressions of butter, over-ripe tropical fruit. But still strikingly well-balanced (apart from the explainable lack of acids). General / potential: No more 'eating wine', but a 'fireplace wine': a wine that transcends most dishes and is at its best with a good conversation by the fireplace ;-). 50 + Color: 5 + Aroma / bouquet: 11 + Taste / Finish: 16 + General / potential: 8 = 90/100

  • Forum Reunion (@ WB): Very tasty wine, a lot of ripe tropical fruits like peach, apricot and very ripe pineapples. Full bodied, butter and even a bit fat. Good acidity as well.

  • This bottle was much more flaccid showing strong signs of over-ripeness. Not sure if this bottle was representative.

  • Colour: pretty golden (mrs ubercuvee went for "looks like pee"). Palate though is super fresh: no signs of excess oakyness, no vanillins - just a super pure expression of fruit with well integrated acidity and overall balanace. In a very good place now and comfortably the best bottle I've ever had from South Africa.
Now if only more effort were made to bring the CWG auction wines to europe & the US....

  • Occasional dinner group; TOP Bordeaux 1999 (@ Two Michelin * Restaurant Boreas in Heeze, Netherlands.): Beautiful and clean bouquet with ripe yellow fruits and pleasant green herbs. On the palate a very tasty wine with ripe yellow fruits, minerals, a firm dose of oak and good bitterness. Young maturity stage now and a beautiful and complex wine.
