This is a cellar treasure. 14 year old Beaujolais. Mature but in prime condition. Served ever so slightly cool it's instantly delicious. The ripeness and strength of the vintage has delivered a plush mature wine. Serious wine, and seriously delicious.

This is certainly mature but in no way deteriorating. What I liked was that the strawberry nose is just about tipping into an over-ripe (but not rotten or stewed) fruit character. Really interesting and fun. Hard to score.

THis remains the best Beaujolais that I have ever consumed and this bottle as good as any in the case (2 left). Its still fresh and ripe though no longer fully primary. To say it is Burgundian is probably an insult to both parties. Yet it has depth and a mineral interest, if not great complexity. This is all about sublime balance and gentleness with neither acidity nor tannin much in evidence; yet still somehow about elegant fruit. I have no idea how long this high wire act can last...

As this wine approaches its 7th birthday I shouldn't have been surprised by something all together more edgy. Gone was the bright purple, and suddenly brown yet remaining deep and red at the centre. Initially cardboardy on the nose, it then evolved into something sweeter, less discernible-- full, round, soft but still some Beaujolais freshness. This wasn't pinot-like as the sages suggest we might think of aged Beaujolais, but something full yet delicate that is not in the usual range of vinous experience. and, yes it was quite nice as well...

VERY nice wine. Enjoyed immensly with smoked trout from the BBQ...held up perfectly. Maybe the 2002 Beaujolais has something going for it after all...;-)
