Monthly Tuesday group "The Dead Sparrow";Bordeaux 2009 vs 2010 (By JS): In the bouquet pleasant rustic flavors, dark berries, cedar, iodine, sweet spices and herbs and spices. On the palate dark berries, chocolate, some bell pepper, good acidity and tannin. Good length. In its lovely young drinking stage and enough power for 5+ more years of ageing.

Fourth bottle from a half case purchased en primeur from the Dutch importer. Pristine condition, perfect level and cork. Decanted. In good shape, youthful, fresh and very tannic, considerable but not excessive weight (14.5% ABV), noticeable new oak, ripe plummy fruit with a touch of red currants, good "truffle and earth" terroir expression, needs time in the decanter to soften. Sturdy and masculine, but not without fragrance and charm. Still early days, let's see how it goes with the tannins. On the second day the wine is completely intact, the tannins have softened nicely, and the wine has developed a lovely, toasty, espresso flavour, without becoming chocolaty. I think I will let my remaining two bottles slumber for another five years at least - maybe even ten.

Third bottle from a half case purchased en primeur. Pristine condition, perfect level and cork. But nevertheless it was an off bottle, lightly maderised.

Sumptuous black fruit (border on over-ripe) and fine tannins. The only let down may be a medium- finish. Ready to go, and will peak in a couple of years. Sad that this is my last one.

Needs some air, but not too much. Best after about one hour of drinking (not decanted).
