  • An interim score, and this should continue to improve but probably needs another couple of years.

  • A light to medium yellow colour; the palate is soft, quite rich, with honey and lemon, medium weight and with some intensity on the finish. Attractive now, but should keep well and develop further.

  • Brought by Wilson, who is on a bit of a Sauternes kick these days. He purchased this because there was no actual Rieussec at the store *tears*

Delicious second wine of Rieussec. The nose is quite hot (surprisingly) with rich notes of butterscotch, orange marmalade, and tropical fruits. I decanted this and the wine became more approachable, but not significantly. Bright Sauternes with nice acidity, but just a tad simple on the palate (but it’s a second wine, after all). Otherwise, a delicious wine, even at this youthful stage!

  • Very successful for a second wine, the 2009 Carmes de Rieussec provides plenty of pleasing Mandarin orange focused fruit and fresh sugar. Not particularly complex, but pure, tasty, and good Sauternes for short money.

  • This is still excellent (my last TN 2015). There is lovely wild honey sweetness to this wine, with a welcome amount of botrytis peppermint. It has some tropical fruits with perhaps pineapple and orange dominant. Its a bit deeper golden colour now (than last TN 2015) but its not going dark by any means. It has the mouth coating viscosity and richness of a typical Sauternes which, if you like rather than Barsac (which I respect) is rather impressive given 9 years now.

For my palate it has enough acidity to clean the palate with a good unctuous length of nice honey, orange and lemon flavours. This is crying out for Tart Tartin or Creme Brulee, for sure.

As a second wine of Chateau Rieussec this is superb, obviously from a great year. Its very impressive drinking now but should also cellar for another 5-10 years.
