Maple, nuts, spices, and a touch of VA on the nose, incredibly intense already. On the palate it is not particularly sweet and has tremendous intensity and drive. Blows every other wine out of the water.

The Rare Wine Company and Vinhos Barbeito Madeira Tasting (celebrating a 20 year partnership): I've had the fantastic 1920 Favilla Viera Malvasia a number of times and this 1950, which I’ve never tasted before, compares favorably. This has a dense core of honey, caramel, dried citrus fruits and brown butter. Clean, fresh tasting wine with a punchy, saline, saliva-inducing finish. Remarkable maturity for such a relative youngster. Absolutely delicious.

Chicago Rotating Dinner Series - March 2014 (Aged Rioja) (Paris Club - Chicago, IL): Lots of pomegranate, nuts, and maple syrup on the nose. The palate had a lot of spices, and waxy fruit with a dense maple note. A bit of heat on the finish, but overall had nice balance.
