Evening of older more unusual wines... (Elgin): mid bronze with a light orange and tinges of brown. A funky nose with some chalk, wet stone and crushed rock yet with a salted honey edge - like honeycomb. Yet it also teeters on being overdeveloped. The fruit on the palate has mostly departed, the alcohol comes across as spiky and hot and there is a faint aldehydic sherry note as the wine finishes. Still quite a mineral texture but that is about all.

A blend of Macabeu (40%), Grenache Blanc (30%), Chardonnay (15%), Grenache Gris (10%) and Carignan Blanc (5%). Fermented with natural yeasts, made in a non-interventionist fashion. Aged for 7-8 months on the lees in barriques (65%) and steel tanks (35%). Total production 8,000 bottles.
Medium deep honey yellow color. Creamy, attractive and slightly oxidative nose with aromas of yellow apples, some peach, a little bit of vanilla and a hint of smoke. Not unlike the whites by R. Lopez de Heredia. Rich, full-bodied and quite oily on the palate with complex flavors of honeydew melon, creamy oak, some red apples, a little bit of dried apricot and a delicate hint of vanilla. Moderate, balanced acidity. The finish is long, lively and somewhat developed with persistent flavors of creamy complexity, dried peach, some almond, a little bit of wizened yellow apple and a hint of vanilla.
A lovely, complex and delicate white wine that reminds me a little bit of white wines by R. Lopez de Heredia or Chateau Musar when they are young. The wine feels slightly oxidative, but it is hard to say whether it is because of the winemaking or because the wine is 10 years old. However, for a non-interventionist white this feels very long-lived, and even though drinking beautifully now, I can imagine the wine will develop even further from here in the cellar. Very nice, good alternative to the white wines by those two producers mentioned above.
