Nose of blackcurrant, chocolate mint, and pencil shavings. Palate opens with sweet blackcurrant and fresh mint, then finishes with mildly astringent black tea. Smooth mouthfeel: lots of tannin, but it's very fine and powdery. There's a touch of oxidation, adding a hint of stale sawdust.

Appearance is not overly dark for a Cabernet. Rather I'd say it's just medium ruby. Quite a herbal nose, with distinct lavender aromas and mintiness coupled with red fruits; mainly cherry with some currant. Comes across riper when tasted. Red fruits as mentioned, are also joined here with blackcurrant, prune, cola and vanilla. I must say this medium bodied wine has not even blinked after 13 years, despite the conservative recommendation on the back label suggesting 8-10 years cellaring potential. It is a very sturdy wine, built to last for the long term; even now full mouth puckering astringent tannins and bright acidity are crying out for either an appropriate food match to cut through it, or better still a further decade (or two) in the cellar. Despite the powerful tannins, I don't see them overwhelming the other aspects moving forward, as they are more than holding their own to this point. Impressive stuff.

rouge bordeaux dense.

Good nose, lots of fruit. Palate overpowered by the tannins. Drunk far too young. Will improve.
