i had forgotten that I had this bottle in my cellar, so I wasn't very optimistic about what I would find in the glass. Given how many bad corks there were back in the 70's and 80's, I was even less optimistic. My wife and I were blown away with how good the wine was showing. The color was deep brick red, as it should be with a Cabernet of this age. The fruit was still there, but not in the style that Aussie reds showed at their worst. Tannins had resolved fully, but there were still some dusty tannins to lend some structure. There was plenty of fine sediment, so the last few ounces out of the bottle were full of sludge. I hope Australia gets back to making wines of this elegance again.

What a nice bunch of aging notes. I bought 1.5-2 cs of this in perhaps 1981 and served it yearly to a bunch of foodies from the early or mid-'80s until it was all gone.
At the outset it was delicious and already complex and deep but tannicly overwhelmed --- I knew one wine dealer who said he positively loved it like this --- and then over time, year by year, it evolved into something truly special, at the Stag's Leap level of profundity and cabernet ultra-classiness.
Given the notes (thank you, all) I would not want to have a case now necessarily, but obviously we could have drunk it happily past 1999 or whenever we ran out. Yummy memories.

browned/dark balsamic color. Nose lightly musty, earthy with a cedary note. Palate initially somewhat closed at fridge temp but opens up and evolves tremendously as it warms and sits. some sweet fruit, good varietal typicity with classic aged cabernet flavors, herbal notes, still tannic finish. For well stored bottles, still offers a lot of pleasure and contemplative complexity. A treat to try, thank you Eric G. 93 pts

93 back in the day, I hasten to add, if not 94.

1978 Vintage Wine Dinner At Marc's in MD (DC/Silver Spring MD): Cherry fruit on the nose, very liht body for a cab, medium tannins, but had a lower acidity, Lighter red and black fruits, light green. A touch light.

Musty, funky. There's still some fruit underneath but it's fully mature and would have been better years ago.
