  Great wine today, more typically sagrantino than in its youth. I was astonished how young it was; this surely can go another 5-10 years

  A real stunner that is at the peak right now. The nose is so pure, intense and complex. Red and dark fruit, roses,
  spices, tar, liccorice. In the mouth the tannins are soft for sagrantino but still present. Forest floor combined with intense fruit some herbs an liccorice. Was that truffles? No oak is disturbing and hence would be fully integrated.
  Seems as good as the 2002 a few years back. An outstanding wine that was even possible to enjoy without any food, which is unusual for sagrantino.

  Still does not reach the peaks I would have hoped. Maybe it needs another decade, who knows? There's definately tannins to hold up for it like all sagrantinos, I'm just not sure the fruitprofile will suddenly fall into place. I feel like it has a one dimensional dark fruit, a somewhat unintegrated oak component, a tannic profile that still isnt the center, but the surface. It just feel like it has 3 different arcs that are conveying very different things. I want to like it but I had hoped for more. Its austere to say the least.

  Dense, extracted and almost fully opaque black-red color. Open, very intense and vibrant nose with somewhat modern-toned aromas of very ripe and sweet blackcurrants, some boysenberries, a little bit of fresh red cherries, light cedary oak notes, a hint of bilberry and a touch of vanilla. The alcohol shows a bit through as the wine warms in the glass. The wine is full-bodied, extracted and very concentrated on the palate with still remarkably youthful and tightly-knit overall feel. There are powerful, complex and slightly sweet-toned flavors of ripe black cherries and some blackcurrant tones, a little bit of sanguine iron, light spicy notes of crushed peppercorns, a hint of meaty umami and robust gamey character and a touch of licorice root. The overall feel is very structure-driven and muscular with the high acidity and assertive, noticeably grippy tannins. The finish is heavily grippy, powerful and tightly-knit with some alcohol warmth and bold, ripe flavors of licorice, some wizened black cherries, a little bit of juicy forest fruits, light sour cherry bitterness, a hint of peppery spice and a touch of toasty oak spice.
  
  The wine still, at 12½ years of age, feels surprisingly modern, sweet-toned and slightly oak-heavy for a Sagrantino, but what's even more notable is that the wine is so remarkably youthful - even backward - for its age. Sure, Sagrantino wines can age for a long time, but this wine tasted more like a wine at half its age! The tannins have resolved very little during this time and the toasty oak still has a good deal left to integrate with the fruit. Based on how this wine performed in this tasting of 10 Sagrantino wines, I'd leave this alone for another 15 or so years. It's obviously built for the long haul - one can drink those other Sagrantino wines that seem to age at a faster pace in the meantime. Not the most impressive wine in the tasting, but it has the potential to develop into something remarkable with age - thus expect the score to go up with age. Exceptional value at 24,50€.
