PnP for dinner at a restaurant, it started to open up over the ~90 minute meal, but still needed more time. Nose is intense but pretty closed with blackberry, plum, cocoa, some herbs, leather, and maybe cedar, but even two days in it is pretty tight. Palate is more of the same dark fruit, earth, and herb, but it is flat. Medium acidity, intense tannins. Honestly just immature at the moment, it really needs some time to come into balance.

Italian Wine Scholar Class at the Texas Wine School. Decanted 3 hrs. 100% Sagrantino. Deep dark ruby w/ garnet rim & thick, dark legs. Med+ blackberry, plum, medicinal herbs, espresso, earth and smoke. Aged for 22 months in French oak barriques. Youthful. Dry, w/ tart black fruit, black plums, dark chocolate, licorice. Med+ acidity and pronounced tannins. The alcohol is high (15.5%) but integrated. Full-bodied, intensely flavored, with a creamy, thick mouthfeel & a long finish. Monolithic and primary, it will benefit from food and many more years of aging. Solid QPR in the $45-$55 range, considering its quality and age-ability.
