Walk-around tasting. Floral with apple, lemon confit and orange peel with very good textures and length. 2013 base, with reserve going back to 2000. A very successful edition. My favorite of the Champagnes tasted tonight.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Walk-around tasting. Good richness and depth, but well balanced and bright for the vintage. Not the most complex example of Charmes, but good now. 89-90 points.
Walk-around tasting. Spiced and floral start with lots of allure ahead of mostly black cherry aromas. same black cherry on palate, just very austere. Needs plenty of time. Good potential.
Walk-around tasting. Ripe black and blue fruits on nose and palate, dense, spiced and nicely concentration, well balanced even with its firm, long-ish finish. Needs at least a few years in the cellar. Very good 91+ point potential.
Walk-around tasting. Rich, dense, fresh, and powerful. Seemingly on the more modern style, with a bit of new oak still protruding. Good now, probably better in a few more years.
Walk-around tasting. So much dense black fruit here with an alluring aromatic start. Very long, very firmly structured finish. Not clear where/ when this will deliver the great pleasure it develops in most vintages.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
Walk-around tasting. Magnum. Rich and ripe, but with ultra bright energy. So much of everything with good+ volume, great length. Very good now with lits of upside, 94-95+ point potential.
Walk-around tasting. Great depth and concentration, but little pleasure right now. Very intriguing potential, but hold until at least 2030 or later. Others enjoyed this more today than I did.
Walk-around tasting. Also intense concentration and depth, but greater balance of fruit, spice and structure here. Nowhere close to complete harmony, but again lots here, 92-94+ point potential, 2030 forward.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny
Walk-around tasting. Ripe red fruit with good weight for its village level. Faint spice and any other nuance, so somewhat simple for now, but certainly both fun and well balanced.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Echezeaux Grand Cru
Walk-around tasting. Ultra concentration, great weight with lots of black fruit. Structure and fruit are now nearly in balance, so this wine is emerging into its peak drinking window, which I expect will last 20 years as this wine continues to evolve and improve further, 94-95 point potential.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru
Walk-around tasting. Nearly fully mature red fruit, faintly spiced, with good+ weight. Slightly more barnyard than I would consider ideal at this young age.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Bonnes Mares Grand Cru
Walk-around tasting. First time tasting this wine since shortly after release. Rich black and red fruits on both nose and palate. Meaty and firm on palate, but clearly approaching a beautiful sense of harmony. Long, expanding finish. 94-95+ point potential. This is from when Jadot's Bonnes Mares came from both the Morey and Chambolle sides.
Walk-around tasting. A wonderful Bourgogne with very good weight for its level. The juxtaposition of earth, spice and fruit give this more charm and nuance. Much better than the last time tasted two years ago (at this same event.
Walk-around tasting. Well balanced with good enough weight, even if seemingly simple. Not as interesting vs when tasted right around release. Others agreed. Off bottle? 89 points.
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
Walk-around tasting. Backward to an extent it comes across as clunky and not perfectly balanced right now. At an awkward phase now, so unfair/ impossible to assess.
NV Ruinart Champagne Brut 87 Points
