I had the pleasure of attending the Weygandt Selections Annual Portfolio Tasting, but sadly only was able to taste through about half of the wines being showcased! It was a great event with a lot of incredible wines being poured. I will list the wines tasted in the order I tasted them.
The highlight of the flight was the Vatan. I was interested to see what the 2009 vintage would be like...add to that the fact that this is the first vintage that Edmond's daughter Anna is leading the winemaking activities.
Talk about an exciting time in Austrian winemaking. 2010 should be a benchmark vintage...it's a shame that the yields will be so small.
A very floral wine with a rich palate of peaches and tangerines. Not as spicy or peppery as some Gruner's I've had from Neiderosterreich but was denser and fuller.

This had a really lovely peppery spice to the palate with dense white florals and a really firm structure. A big surprise to me, and a hell of a value.

Very taught in nature with lots of pepper and minerals on the palate. Finish had nice florals and subtle peach tones. Very enjoyable.

A bit rounder than the Hasel from Eichinger this had less of the minerals and pepper and a denser floral bouquet with some nice herbal undertones.

A very polished Gruner with more focus than the Wechselberg - this was full of pepper, peaches and lillies. Very nice.

This had a very high-toned fruit profile of peach, mango, and sweet lemon. Good acidity on the finish with a nice floral tone as well. Also worth noting that "heilignenstein" means "holy stone".

A nice profile of fresh herbs and stone fruit on the palate with an energetic mineral-driven finish. Very nice.

An impressive riesling with bright florals, nice minerals and great lingering acidity. This has wonderful tension on the palate...seems to be just exploding with energy.

Fresh peaches and melons with dense herbs, crushed rocks and subtle diesel. This is another example of a highly energetic wine that is impressive at its young age.

This was my first time trying a Pichler Gruner from Durnsteiner Liebenberg...but unsurprisingly I was greeted by the typical exotic nose that I've grown accustomed to with their wines. Powerful pepper, melons, peaches, herbs, and minerals. Palate had a lot of energy and was packed with peppery fruit. This wine should be enjoyable for quite some time due to its structure.

As is the case with any Pichler Steinertal, this has a very exotic nose of peaches, mangos, nectarines and florals. Thankfully, this wine is a lot fresher than the 2009 exhibiting fierce energy and cut on the palate. Should be built for the long run, but like other vintages of Steinertal, will offer up a lot of enjoyment early on too.

Interesting combination of juicy red fruit and dense minerality. I haven't had a lot of Markowitsch's wines, but this was had nice complexity and length to it.

Was surprised by the quality of the Dr. Siemens wines. Very nice values. Heymann-Lowenstein is unsurprisingly delicious!
An incredibly dense palate of peaches, florals and nectarines. Nice acidity on the finish. A very interesting wine.

This had subtle honey on the nose with apricots, mango, and peach. Palate was pretty dense...but had nice balance. Impressive value.

A lovely nose of lychee, white peach, mango and crushed rocks. Palate is silky but has nice depth with rich riesling fruit on top of beautifully integrated acid.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
The palate is like silk, but the flavors are intense with great acidity, lychee, subtle apricot, white florals and peaches. Incredibly enjoyable.

It's funny this is categorized as a Kabinett! The palate is more in the Spatlese style with bold tropical fruits, and subtle citrus with almost a waxiness feel to it.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Another interesting one from Mosbacher. Thought this had some nice riesling fruit on the nose with a hint of hay...which is as strange as it sounds. This also had some underlying saline qualities with apricots. All over the place...but interesting.

Rich on the palate with honeycomb, dense florals, nice herbs, and peaches. Finish had nice minerality and acid.

These were all new producers to the Weygandt portfolio and I was impressed by the quality of them. The Le Grazie from Villa Mongalli was especially impressive.
Interesting blend of Trebbiano, Verdelho, Grechetto and Canaiolo. This is fresh and briny, with lemon and subtle banana peel on the palate. Nice length and depth...I thought this was very nice.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Another interesting blend of Grechetto, Procanico, Vermentino, and Chardonnay. This is a bit more herbal than the Orvieto Classico still coming across very fresh and lively. Nice lemon component to the palate with some pepper, and melon.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
A blend of Sangiovese, Montepulciano and Syrah. Incredibly young with unyielding tannins at this point. There is some dark fruit and tobacco tones peeking through the tannins, but it's going to take a long time for this to resolve itself.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
A denser trebbiano that has some banana, fresh herbs, and stone fruit. I liked this wine a lot - despite being denser than I expected, it showed really nice balance.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Very exciting nose of brambles, dried red roses, provencal herbs, and red fruit. Palate has firm tannins that will take some time to resolve, but this is a $30 wine that has the pedigree of a wine at twice the cost. Impressive.
Post a Comment / 1 person found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Report Issue
Tart cranberry, subtle mocha and dried roses on the tightly wound palate. Will need time to break free of its tannins, but it has nice raw materials.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Lots and lots of tannins at play here. The palate has some nice red berries, mocha and dusty charcoal. Hard to really get a read on such a tannic monster...give it time.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
This was more expressive than the Del Curato with dried red florals, a nice bramble component, and some cherry on the nose. The palate is surprisingly dense with almost a cherry liqueur aspect to it...threw me off a bit.

Nicolas Maillart was just highlighted by Brad Baker as an up-and-comer in the Champagne world...no surprise here. Amazingly high quality.
Soapy nose with nice mousse. Palate is energetic with nice citrus, subtle vanilla and more mousse. Would like to try this again with a bit more air.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
I've had this a number of times and it continues to be an impressive Champagne. This has nice citrus, great energy and firm acidity. Not as rich or full as some more yeasty Champagnes...but has really nice focus.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
50% pinot, 50% chardonnay. This is denser than the Platine with subtle tropical fruit, toasted almonds, and some cream. Another well-made wine from Nicolas Maillart.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
100% Chardonnay. A very elegant Champagne that's a bit denser with more yeast, toast, and cream than Nicolas' other cuvees. Palate is high-toned with bright citrus, lots of energy with balance and focus. This is one of the best Champagne's I've had in the last couple of months.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
100% Pinot Noir. Very trimmed and polished with delicate tangerine and nectarines on the palate. Another energetic Champagne from Maillart.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Light floral nose...like rosewater. It also has some delicate strawberry tones and smokey minerals. Palate has incredible minerality with some wild strawberry tones. Always a nice treat.

I was dubious of the 2009 vintage going into this, and while it's not as impressive as 2008 there are certainly good wines to be had. The lower level Chablis seemed to be especially good values and the Montee de Tonnerre from Servin was the best 2009 of the day.
Lemons and herbs on this lightweight palate. Good amount of smokey oak and minerals on the palate.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
I've always been a fan of this wine. While the 2009 doesn't have the elegance of the 2008, this is drinking quite well. It has some seawater tones on the palate with lots of lemons and smokey minerals.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
A denser Vaillons with lemon oil, peach, stone fruit and smokey minerals. Doesn't have the energy and focus of the 2008, but still a nice wine.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
My favorite of the 2009 lineup from Servin. This has an expressive nose of lemon oil, lanolin, and white florals. The palate has great focus - defined primarily by minerals, white peach and white florals. Very nice.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
No oak treatment. Nice focus with white peaches and chalkdust on the nose. I thought Francois Servin's lack of oak produced a nice wine here - the heat of the vintage of gave the wine enough body...no need to add extra oak here!

I thought this was premoxed.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Nice minerals, good acidity and lemon oil on the palate. Not incredibly complex, but a great value.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Fresh nose of white peach, lanolin and some saline notes. Palate had nice citrus and slate - again, not overly complex, but a great value.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
A very pleasant Chardonnay with pleasant citrus, wet slate, white florals and some nice herbs.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Has some lavender, smokey minerals, and lemon oil on the nose. Nicely polished palate with layers of florals and citrus. Hard to find many faults with this.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Has the typical density of what I've come to expect from Les Clos. It has extreme length, dense florals, chalkdust and peaches. Sometimes wines from Les Clos can be too broad shouldered for me, but this one was really nice.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
The Jobard's from 2008 continue to impress me. The Genevrieres will be a 93-96 point wine someday....easy.
Lots and lots of oak. Nothing else...just oak.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Mineral-driven, with distinct seashell and tidal pool notes. Palate has dense lemon oil, peach, and flint. Very nice.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Another great Genevrieres from Jobard. Dense lemon oil, matchstick, some herbs, bright acid and smokey minerals. Lovely.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
An oaky wine, but not overdone. Yes, it does border on being a bit unbalanced, but I think most people will gobble this up. The palate has a good deal of citrus flavors layered over some floral notes. Medium-bodied, with a nice finish.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Complete butterscotch and lemon oil on the palate. Doesn't have the balance that the VV did.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
The largest flight of the day. Incredible range of styles an interesting look at the 2009 vintage. Not surprisingly I like this vintages prospects in the shorter term (7-12 years), but with their prices being so high most are an easy pass. Keep an eye of Michel Juillot - sneaky values and a lot of elegance.
Subtle lemon oil, peach and hazelnut on this medium-bodied Rully. A great value wine in my opinion.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Medium-bodied with chalkdust, bright citrus, some vanilla and light peach. Another enjoyable Chardonnay from Michel Juillot.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
A very dense Chardonnay with vanilla, florals, some warm spices, and dense pineapple. The body of this wine is nice with medium acidity and good length. It'll need lots of time to resolve itself it...build some complexity.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
A bit of heat came through on this wine. It had a very bright, round body with low acidity. Lots of cherry fruit, red florals, and some charcoal.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
A bit too much oak on this one for me. It has sweet cherry and some brown sugar. Acidity was very low.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Lots of charcoal and smokey herbs on the nose. Palate is full-bodied, with silky red fruit and some underbrush. It's an interesting wine for sure.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
This had the most minerality of all their cuvees. Palate had high-toned red fruit with some brambles, underbrush and brown sugar. Very nice.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Lots of oak on this simplistic chardonnay.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
This had intense citrus and herbs on the palate. Medium-bodied with above average acidity. 2010s in Maconnais are gonna rock.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Had some honeysuckle on the palate with some roasted herbs, and butterscotch. Medium-bodied with below average acidity. Not overly serious.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Bright citrus and tropical fruit on the nose. Very bright, and very round. Lots of baby fat at this stage. Wondering if it'll mature gracefully.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Incredibly bright for a 2008. Despite it's overly exuberant fruit profile, it did have nice underlying mushroom and floral notes. Are the 2008s beginning to shut down a bit?
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Much brighter than the 2008. This has vibrant red fruit on the palate with charcoal, smoke and cranberry. The oak came through a fair bit too. Seemed to be in a weird spot.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
One of the biggest surprises of the day. Incredibly refined with elegant floral and red fruit notes. Nice balance, medium acidity...this won't age forever and isn't the most thought provoking wine, but it delivered a lot of enjoyment.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
In a vintage of heat and brutish flavors, Cecile seems able to skirt the precipice. This wine has a very elegant floral tone to it. The palate is dominated by sappy red fruit, but has nice balance with above average acidity.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Seemed a bit more conditioned than the entry level La Fontaine from Tremblay. Had a toasty oak flavor to it with a softness that you expect from Chambolle fruit. The florals are really sexy here, but the fruit is just a touch too heavy for me at this point. Patience will be required for this one.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Very toasty profile with supple red fruit on the palate in addition to a graham cracker note (something I usually get on Champagne). Low acidity - low complexity.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Rich florals on the nose with a hint of mocha. Palate had some oak, but was overall more feminine than most of the other 2009s I've had of late. Glantenay continues to impress me.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Deeper floral notes than the entry level Volnay. This has better acidity though with a beautiful earthen component that is vacant all too often in 2009 Burgundies.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
This should easily go down as one of the finest, most elegant village wines of the vintage. Nose has sour cherry, tilled soil, a subtle espresso tone and some underbrush. Palate is dominated at this point by red fruit but did have some nice mushroom undertones. Tannins will take some time to resolve, but this should turn out to be a wonderful wine.

Incredibly sweet nose - almost candied. The mouthfeel is incredibly lithe and silky, but the depth of flavor is just not on par to the incredible 2008. This is far more modern. While not exactly in my wheelhouse, I can imagine this becoming an elegant and balanced wine with some time.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
This featured incredible dark, spiced pinot fruit. Incredibly exciting, this has a hell of an upside. I'd buy as much of this as possible.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Softer than the spectacular 2008, this had a red fruit core with some dried floral tones. Not as complex and thought-provoking as the 2008, but still a lovely wine...also, this should peak before the 2008.

Fun to taste through the 2010 offerings of Chermette and Bouland. Much crunchier than 2009 in Beaujolais, these are energetic wines with a lot of character. They will reward patience.
My notes read simply, "chiseled from stone". If you like full-bodied chardonnays, do not drink this. I loved it.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Lots of violets, rocky gamay fruit, and incredible balance. A really nice Brouilly that has more cut and energy than the 2009. Is it better than 2009, well, hard to say.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
This is brighter with raspberry, and lots of gravel. Doesn't have the plush mouthfeel of the 2009, but has more cut and energy.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Strange bottle. Heat spiked a bit for me, but this had nice minerality and depth of flavor. Knowing the predigree of Les Garants, I will give another bottle a try before passing judgement.

The most energetic Chermette wine of 2010 with zippy raspberries, crushed rocks and violets. Very nice, might be my favorite Chermette cuvee of 2010.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
This had nice raspberry and plum notes with undertones of gravel and smokey minerals. Part of me feels like 2009 Beaujolais are closing down, so it's hard to judge this wine.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Incredible tannins in place here. There was some nice violet and raspberry flavors, but I felt this wine was pretty much shut down.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Really exciting wine. So mineral driven it felt like you were chewing on gravel. Nice violet, lilac, and raspberry tones too. Very enjoyable.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
A denser Gamay that is full of dark fruit, heavy rocks, and lots of acidity. Incredible energy on the palate, too. Will be a lot of fun to see where this wine ends up.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Energetic raspberry fruit on the nose with dense lilac and violet florals. Not as mineral driven as the Chiroubles, but brighter than the Cuvee Melanie....an interesting combination.

The Condrieu from Gerin was the highlight of this flight. I've had trouble with young white wines from the Northern Rhones but this was incredible elegant.
One of the best white wines of the day. This didn't have the awkward tones that Condrieu can have at such a young age. Integrated linen tones, with honeycomb and seashell produced a really elegant wine. Impressive.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Lighter fruit profile than expected with cranberry and blackberry on the palate with some smokey notes and some game. 2009 should be an interesting vintage in the Northern Rhone and this could be a sleeper with some age on it.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Funky nose of dark fruit, smoked meats and earth. The palate was medium-bodied and, with time, could develop into something quite nice.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Denser and meatier than the Le Rouvre. This had nice layers of smoked and raw meats, subtle smokiness and dark fruits. Will take some time for the palate to fully mature, but should be a nice wine in a couple years.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Had a fun time talking to Jesse from Fausse Piste about his wines - all of which are exciting. The Crowley wines didn't show as well as I hoped, but I will definitely be trying them again soon.
Honeyed pear, linen, and lychee on the palate. This was a bit round and not as elegant as the Gerin Condrieu I drank just before, but still very nice. Jesse's enthusiasm for his wine is infectious - had a great time chatting with him at the table.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Nice density to this wine with warm red fruit, subtle darker fruit and underlying meat tones. Will be interesting to see how Jesse's wines mature.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
A darker fruit profile with plums, smoke and game. Darker than the other Fausse Piste wines...maybe not my favorite.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Sappy red fruit with interesting spice notes and dense florals. Palate was dense....but not heavy with layered floral and dark fruit tones. Very nice, a great example of balanced new world Grenache.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Lots of almond paste with charcoal, flint and toast on the palate. Heavy chardonnay that didn't have as much focus as I expected. Was the bottle opened too long by the time I got to it?

Warm spices, subtle earth and an incredibly silky palate. Looking forward to trying these guys in a cooler vintage!

Red fruit with some funky earth on the nose. Enjoyable pinot with layered fruit and floral aspects on the palate. Very nice!

La Bastide Blanche is a favorite Bandol producer of mine and these three wines were impressive. The 2008 was lights out in fact.
Very dark wine with cedar, plum, blackberry and charcoal. Tannins are still firmly in place, but this should shape up to be a nice Fontaneou with some patience.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
This was my first taste of the 2008 Fontaneou and I was thoroughly impressed. Driven by violets, subtle funkiness (mourvedre-driven no doubt) and blackberries. The palate is incredibly silky and fresh. Everything seemed to be in perfect harmony already...something I've never experienced before.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
This was a treat. While not as accessible as the 2008, this was still enjoyable. Far more herbal than the 2008, this also had kirsch and rhubarb on the nose. The palate was very smooth with lingering drying tannins. Despite the tannins, it was still a very elegant wine.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
It was interesting to try a bunch of wines from the much talked about Jean-Louis Tribouley. I thought that the Les Bacs was a very intriguing wine - denser than what I usually drink but it had nice complexity.
Dark wine of 60% carignan, 20% grenache, 20% syrah from vines ranging from 35-70 years of age. This had a nice spice to it with smokey herbs too. A bit denser than I usually like, but still nice.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Incredible dense nose of anise and dark fruits. The palate had a lot of blackberry and charcoal - denser than I usually like.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Lots of black raspberries, blackberries and plums on the palate. Had an interesting chalkiness to it and was quite big and tannic. Will take a while to simmer down.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Probably the most earthy of the Tribouley wines I tried. The palate had plum, spices, mushroom and roasted herbs - nice acidity though.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Big, bold and rich. Lots of pepper, plums, and blackberries on the palate. Didn't have the acidity I would have liked for such a deep, dense wine.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Martinet produces some top flight Priorat's and this was a good chance to give some a shot. Priorat has never been my favorite due to its density and lack of acidity. The Menut is one of the most popular wines at the shop in DC, and I can see why. Incredibly well made wine for under $20.
Dark fruit and charcoal on the palate. This has considerable oak, but with the incredible dark fruit it's actually integrated well. This is a very popular wine, and while I don't find it that enjoyable, can see why others do. The flavors are incredibly vibrant!
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Dark fruit profile on the palate with noticeable vanilla, spices and roasted herbs. A very dense wine that has considerable weight.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
The palate of this wine was pure raisin, plum and charcoal. Flavors seemed exaggerated and too polished. Lots of oak and vanilla on the palate. Incredibly dense wine.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Dark fruit, charcoal, vanilla on the nose. The palate featured rich, dark fruit - blackberries and plums. This is a silky wine, but was incredible dense giving it a very heavy feel. Will take years to tone down.

Overall, a great day. It was great to see how well Austria did in 2010, and to understand the 2009 Burgundian vintage better. I was able to meet some iconic winemakers, and wine professionals from around the world - I feel honored to have attended.

2010 Bonnet-Huteau Les Gautronnières
France, Loire Valley
A very sleek and mineral driven wine with medium body. Had a very delicate floral lift on its finish.

2010 Bonnet-Huteau Muscadet de Sèvre-et-Maine Sur Lie Les Dabinieres
France, Loire Valley, Pays Nantais, Muscadet de Sèvre-et-Maine
Compared to the Les Gautronnieres this was far more floral in nature, but still had a chalky undercurrent. Another nice one.

2010 Bonnet-Huteau Muscadet de Sèvre-et-Maine sur lie Les Laures
France, Loire Valley, Pays Nantais, Muscadet de Sèvre-et-Maine sur lie
Only the Goulaine from Bonnet-Huteau is more focused and mineral driven than the Les Laures. This is another sleek wine with dense minerality and floral notes. Yum.

2010 Domaine des Aubuisières Vouvray Cuvée de Silex

A floral-driven, plush Chenin Blanc with great balance and acidity. Not overly complex, but certainly nice.

NV Domaine des Aubuisières Vouvray Pétillant Brut
France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Vouvray Pétillant
A very zesty wine with lots of energy. At the same time, it has the underlying character of Chenin Blanc...so there's a softness to it that juxtaposes well with its energy.

2010 Château de la Bonneliere Touraine

2010 Château de la Bonneliere Touraine Cépage Sauvignon

This had more herbs integrated into the body than the base Plouzeau Sauvignon. Still incredibly fresh and vibrant with grapefruit tones and white florals. Great summer wine.

2009 Edmond Vatan Sancerre Clos la Néore
France, Loire Valley, Upper Loire, Sancerre
A large-scale sauvignon blanc clocking in at 15% alc. This is the first vintage that Edmond's daughter Ann is directing the winemaking and it was a tough vintage to deal with given its heat. Add to that the fact that Vatan is usually one of the last producers to harvest fruit and you're left with a broad-shouldered wine that will take a long time to calm down and firm up. The characteristic extreme herbal character was there in spades with a dense chalkiness and melon component. Not surprisingly this was rounder, fatter, just plain bigger than the 2008 - I'll be interested to see how this matures.
