Siggy & Jenny's Place, Mpls, MN
Tasted Saturday, August 28, 2021 by rocknroller with 233 views
This was the annual big group summer party. It was a real treat to be able to do this again after last year. We had a great group of 32 vaccinated peeps. As usual it was Steve and Jenny as our gracious hosts. Steve did a marvelous job on the brisket and everyone contributed a mix of wonderful side dishes. There was a fun mix of wines to keep everyone satisfied. If you didn't find something you wanted to drink, you weren't trying. This was a night of socializing and small pours, so notes are brief.
2012 Chateau Montelena Chardonnay 93 Points
USA, California, Napa Valley
Light gold color. From magnum. Drank a glass over an hour plus on consecutive nights. This has the poise that I always find in Montelena Chardonnay bringing the depth and energy while not going too far. Lovely stone fruits, pear, nectarine, apple, creamy with hints of buttered toast, great lift and acidity with a little smokiness, creamy texture, light oak spice, medium bodied with clean lively minerality - and I like Chablis28's description of fresh mountain stream minerality - that nails it.

2007 Delas Frères Hermitage Marquise de la Tourette 92 Points
France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage
Dark red plus color with a 12mm bricked transition. Splash double decanted. Very earthy, iron, blood meal, purple flowers, Provencal herbs, smoke, dark fruits garrigue, pepper. The palate is medium full bodied with cool dark fruits, blackberry, with blueberry and dark cherry influences, pepper, garrigue spices and dried herbs, nice length and complexity. This is in a good spot and was better on day 2.

2003 Quilceda Creek Cabernet Sauvignon 94 Points
USA, Washington
Small tasting glass; brief note. This was beautiful, full, rich, concentrated but well balanced and does not push the limits for me. Just a lovely plush texture, gorgeous fruit and nice wood that is integrating. Didn't take much so did not see the evolution. I think I'd Rather Be Drinking Wine's note is very accurate for more details. This may well have been better if I could have watched it over some time.

France, Loire Valley, Upper Loire, Pouilly-Fumé
Small tasting pour. Brief note; same bottle as Bellissimo. Well this was a disappointment after a great bottle of 2016b recently. No comparison between the too. This was rough and much more pedestrian.

USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Ynez Valley
Small tasting pour. Brief note; you know, I always find these very enjoyable and well made. These are classic old school, cool climate syrahs that offer oodles of old world character and style, so earthy and meaty with red fruits and medium plus body.
