As I get older, I find myself concentrating more and more on Oregon Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays, as well as Spanish Riojas and Ribera del Dueros. I first discovered Oregon Pinot Noirs in the late 1970s when I had a colleague from Oregon and we used to meet once or twice a year and exchange wines. Lost track of him when the project we were working on ended, but I continued to try a few Oregon Pinots through the 80s and 90s (Adelsheim, Ponzi, Elk Cove). In the past 4 years or so, I have greatly enjoyed St. Innocent, Goodfellow, Patrricia Green, Drouhin, Evening Land, Bethel Heights, Gran Moraine). My favorites in Rioja and Ribera del Duero are Muga (particularly Prado Enea and Seleccion Especiale), CUNE, La Rioja Alta, Lopez de Heredia, Emilio Moro. Again, I look forward to more of your notes.

    11/13/2018 12:46:00 AM - Good to be fans, short and confused (great way to live, albeit tall would be preferable). Wow, early 20s!? You are luckier than us as we were in our early 30s. Working hard to catch up!!! For us, the alphabet begins with "C" for Chardonnay, but a good Pinot Noir from Burgundy is not far behind.

    2/28/2014 5:41:00 AM - In many ways you seem to have had a mirror of my own experience, with enough $$ added to pursue Burgundy, which I rarely can afford. We don't know how great it is that we don't have to pay Burgundy prices for our fine Germans! My family is from Boston, too; my late great aunt used to have a house right up from the square in Lexington (next to one of the Adams barns).

Today, I am probably am 65% California red and 35% Burgundy, Champagne and Bordeaux. The price of Bordeaux makes it easier for me to attend Whiskies of the World and Whiskey Fest here in San Francisco.
