This was sensational. Olfactory heaven for anyone who likes a complex, highly aromatic bouquet of wood smoke, forest floor, minerals and ineffable old wine scents. Smooth and utterly integrated on the palate, but vigorous still with plenty of body and dried fruit flavors. Terrific equilibrium with good brightness and even some tea-like tannins left.

This wine was #9/100 in Wine Spectators 2017 rankings. Decanted for 2 hours but got better over time and maybe best on the second day. This full bodied wine was austere with fruit just peeking out from behind the oak and spice notes. It can easily go another 10 years but can be consumed now with a long decant.

Open yesterday. Chilled. Best at 59°F. Immediate evidence of fresh, muscular, durable wine. Immense eau de vie extracts of fruit: in the context of Nusserhof. Casually gravel and walnut shell litter. Strident grape flavor with reason to be confident in its acidity. Grilled porcini. Quite tannic when considered within a 'rosato' paradigm. Keeping with standards for this cuvée, there is a glycerin bus of attending flavor that descends on the midpalate. Birch bark, pepper root, sloe. Active currents of acidity and mineral perform lit from below, minus connotations of diabolism. This is when I notice the elevated front of rancho meladuco dates, bespoke cherry vapes, and tilled nutshells. I hope my bottle shop Stadt Garten can find another one.

Opulent and rich. Notes of red currant, blackberries, well-integrated tannins, and acid. Drinking beautifully.
Fresh and lively, in its prime drinking window.

Popped and poured but this needs air. I would give it around an hour before drinking. Nice subtle berry and herb nose. The palate starts quite acidic but with air fans out and builds weight. Black cherry, smoke and herbs come through. Quite focused, even a little strict, but shows Grand cru depth and balance. This could get even better with time.

Pale Ruby and medium bodied this has a floral, sweet and spicy nose. The taste starts with a spicy red fruit burst of energy, followed by a tantalizing dark pit fruit laced with fine tannins. And the finish, while, not subtle rather than big, goes on and on. It’s in perfect balance – The fruit is super fresh yet nuanced and the tannins smoothly lead to a finish that -like driving on a smooth winding road- evolves the taste without overwhelming it. Power without weight indeed. Glad I have 3 more bottles and I see no reason to further age them :)

Des tanins encore très présents, qui ne me semble pas intégrés. Beaucoup d'astringence en fin de bouche ce soir... peut-etre une mauvaise bouteille?

Very nice entry level Barolo. Red fruited, nice florals on the nose. Simple but nicely balanced and with good concentration.

This well-cellared bottle was popped, poured and serially tasted over the ensuing three hours. Showing best after two hours of air, it unfurls an intense aromatic array of Montmorency cherries, dark plums, dried apricots, cocoa, tobacco and loamy earth. Medium red/garnet in color, medium in body and with lively acids, it delivers flavors in line with the aromas, adding baking spices and a thread of iron. The wine's alcohol (listed as 14.5%) and oak are restrained, as is the case for its plentiful fine-grained tannins. Layered on the mid-palate and long on the finish, this is a beautiful Brunello that has the structure to ensure significant longevity. Comparably cellared bottles should reach their twentieth birthday with grace. Drink now-2035.

The wine is less interesting than previous bottles, it’s become a bit simplistic. Thankfully it has lots of acid to support the maturing fruit and the 15% ABV, but it lacks complexity. Will hold but is in decline, I think, so drink up !

I am duplicating a note here that I added for my Ca’ Rozzeria 2016 Boca. The label said Boca, the cork said Davide Carlone. I believe it is the same wine (for those who do not know Rimmerman and Garagiste, he sometimes purchases wine from a producer and sells it under his own Ca’ Rozzeria label). This was relatively high priced for one of these things, close to the winery price, and I can see why:

Drank this over 3 days. The cork said Davide Carlone Boca, and the image on the cork matched the image on the Carlone bottling. This was terrific. On day 2, we paired it with planked salmon, and it was absolutely sublime. Rosalie said it reminded her of a great Pinot Noir, but the color was different. It had lots of cherries, plenty of acidity, and the body of a good Pinot. I should have bought three cases instead of three bottles.

Decanted and poured with little to no sediment. Deep dense garnet hue with some pink to orange bricking on the rim. Nose and palate of dark red and hints of black fruit with a light kiss of oak and some florals. Tannins are well integrated yet apparent on the finish with a substantial dry note. This wine is just yummy. Drinking beautifully at 15 years of age. I've had this in my cellar for 11 years. I'll be dipping into the two I have remaining over the coming months. Drink up folks!

PnP. Color is ruby and wine is opaque. On the nose: Red and black mixed berries, hints of currant , plums and green pepper. On the palate: Lots of black and red berries, cassis, hint of vanilla, cola and some baking spices. Quite long with very good acidity. Very refined and elegant. This is world class Zinfandel. I probably overuse this but this is a European style wine for this blend. I bought 6 bottles (4 reg and 1 magnum). I intend to put the Magnum away for a long time and try to resist the other 3 750 ml bottles. It’s worth seeing how this ages but I think I need to buy more.

It had an enticing nose that showed flint, matschstick, mango, yoghurt and citrus. On the palate, it showed the vintage ripeness. The wine possessed decent weight and richness. Quite Burgundian style, especially on the nose, which resembles a lot of modern young producer.

Earthy, minerals, black olives, briney, grass, perhaps light black licorice in the background.

Light, dry, oak aged. perhaps some light red currant, but none of the typical fruit flavoring. Velvety tanins.

Agree with others, it’s not exciting but it’s not a bad pour either. Drink now.

Medium ruby red in color with no signs of aging. Full, forward & fragrant nose of ripe fruit aromas of cherries, cranberries & plums with overtones of floral notes & spices notes of cloves, earthy/dusty notes, minerals, mushrooms, some cola notes, herbs & a slight hint of oak/vanilla in the background. Medium bodied with a good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, ripe fruit flavors of cherries, strawberries & cranberries with spices, mushrooms, minerals, herbs & a slight touch of oak/vanilla. Lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present with airing although at 12 years of age, it is close to or at its peak of development. Although it should hold here for a few more years any further development from additional aging would be minimal. Fill was right below capsule; cork was clean & intact. An absolutely wonderful, aged Oregon Pinot.

This is an interesting take on Cabernet Franc- Carbonically macerated versus traditional maceration which has resulted in a very pale crimson colored wine with low viscosity (11.5% ABV). The nose has medium intensity aromas of raspberry, earth, funk, macerated strawberry, wildflower and green pepper- very unique. The palate is dry with medium (-) acidity, a light body and low tannins. It's a fruit forward wine with red raspberry, strawberry, red licorice, florals and a hint of green pepper. The green note sticks out on the medium length finish, which I am really liking. It's not an overly complex wine, nor is it ageworty but it's a fun and light representation of the varietal that gets 88 points from me. At $ 28 it's a 3 star effort to try out with some lighter fare.

A pretty user-friendly Huhnerberg with lots of up-front fruit with attributes of Meyer lemon, tangerines, grapefruit, and guava, trocken no doubt but impressively fleshy and colorful for the vintage, and perhaps even for Muellen in general. It's laced with lots of chalklike and talc-like sensations too. This is a great summer thirst-quencher, but it's also Huhnerberg, so who's to say it won't develop into even more?
