Introduction

We all brought some wines.

The host prepared a dinner with the first 13 wines.
After that came the afterparty with another 18 wines.

All wines were tasted blind.

Flight 1 (1 note)

White - Sparkling
N.V. Jacquesson & Fils Champagne Cuvée No. 732 France, Champagne
90 points
Mature, brioche, mild and elegant. Good minerality.

Flight 2 (10 notes)

White
2002 Domaine de Bellivière Coteaux du Loir Vieilles Vignes Eparses France, Loire Valley, Coteaux du Loir
Hope this was an off bottle ; it was so disappointing that I did not bother to make notes or score it. So this is just for the record and to see if my last bottle offers the same experience.
White
1996 Jean-Luc Colombo Hermitage Blanc Le Rouet France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage
88 points
As last years note. Bananas and asparagus. Mild and soft. Just very little noticeable acidity.
White
2004 Le Clos du Caillou Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
91 points
Beautiful wine with a good dose of oak, soft apples, banana. Complex and elegant. Beautiful drinking now.
White
2007 Domaine Lafage Cuvée Centenaire France, Languedoc Roussillon, Roussillon, Côtes du Roussillon
88 points
Expressive bouquet of flowers. Soft citrus and impressions of yellow tropical fruits. Good complexity.
White
2001 Domaine de Chevalier Blanc France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan
90 points
This is a textbook example of a white Pessac/Leognan. The oak is still somewhat dominating, but this is definitely an excellent wine. At this moment possibly still a bit too young, because it should show more complexity.
White
2005 Domaine Anne Gros Chardonnay Bourgogne France, Burgundy, Bourgogne
85 points
Buttery and easy going wine with tropical flavors and some bitterness in the finish. Not overly complex.
White
2002 Domaine William Fèvre Chablis Grand Cru Bougros France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru
88 points
A lot of butter (from the oak), soft citrus. Vegetables. A bit strange wine. Not a textbook Chablis because I miss the minerals. Maybe this is an off bottle. Nevertheless the score is not too bad.
White
2006 Louis Latour Chardonnay Grand Ardèche France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Côteaux de l'Ardèche
86 points
A lot of bitterness from the oak and very mild acidity. This is not what you would expect to come from France. All in all the wine is ok, but not special.
White
2003 Domaine Weinbach Gewurztraminer Cuvée Théo France, Alsace
90 points
A really nice and elegant gewürztraminer of good complexity. Much more refined than many other gewürztraminers from Alsace. There is some pleasant sweetness, but not too much.

White
2007 Domaine du Tariquet Côtes de Gascogne Dernières Grives France, Southwest France, Gascony, Côtes de Gascogne
87 points
Good sweetness with a lot of apricots, banana and tangerine. There is some acidity behind it all, which makes this a very nice wine.

Flight 3 (2 notes)

White - Sweet/Dessert
2001 Domaine de la Bongran (Thevenet) Mâcon-Villages Cuvée Botrytis France, Burgundy, Mâconnais, Mâcon-Villages
91 points
No formal notes, just a score.
White - Sweet/Dessert
2003 Château Climens France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Barsac
92 points
Loaded with apricots, honey and polishing wax. Very full bodied, but also elegant. A great wine with a long future. Might gain with ageing.

Flight 4 (18 notes)

Red
2000 Jean-Luc Colombo Cornas Les Terres Brulees France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Cornas
88 points
Rustic and a bit dusty wine. A lot of firm bitterness and acidity. A bit drying in the finish. Medium bodied. Not waiting much longer might be the best option.
Red
1998 Penfolds Shiraz Bin 128 Australia, South Australia, Limestone Coast, Coonawarra
91 points
A lot of chocolate, licorice, and bitterness. Full bodied and good acidity. Firm tannin which promises several years more. And the best part is that there is elegance as well.
Red
2004 Casa Castillo Syrah Jumilla Valtosca Spain, Murcia, Jumilla
90 points
Two years after my previous note the wine is still much too young. The dark chocolate is still prominent. This enormously concentrated wine can use at least another 2 - 3 years of cellaring.
Red
2004 Provins Syrah Maitre de Chais Switzerland, Valais, Sion
89 points
Beautiful and elegant bouquet. Creamy and buttery. Fresh acidity. This is a very elegant style syrah I can really appreciate.
Red
2005 Boekenhoutskloof Syrah South Africa, Coastal Region, Franschhoek Valley
91 points
Beautiful. Full bodied and elegant. A lot of good acidity and spiciness. On the other hand the (American?) oak and candy tastes make the wine a little less interesting. The wine needs more time to get things integrated. Nevertheless a great score already.
Red
2007 Domaine les Grands Bois Rasteau Cuvée Marc France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Rasteau
91 points
Chocolate and dark fruits in the bouquet as well as the taste. Very ripe fruits. Very juicy. Easy going acidity. A great pleasure to drink.
Red
2007 Domaine La Garrigue Côtes du Rhône Cuvée Romaine France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Côtes du Rhône
90 points
Spiciness, good juice, dark fruits and a little bit of barnyard to make it all complete. This time I scored the wine 90. Really a treat for the price.
Red
2004 Torbreck Woodcutter's Shiraz Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley
89 points
Complex and elegant bouquet with herbs, chocolate and some tobacco. Red and black fruits. Good juice. A little sweetness. Soft but firm tannin and a good dose of bitterness. Definitely has a future of several years. Good qpr!
Red
2004 Domaine de la Grange des Pères Vin de Pays de l'Hérault France, Languedoc Roussillon, Languedoc, Vin de Pays de l'Hérault
92 points
Beautiful refined and complex bouquet with herbs and spices and pleasant barnyard. Good juice of mainly red fruits. Firm but soft bitterness. Very well balanced and with a long finish. Great wine. Already in a nice drinking stage.
Red
1997 Paul Jaboulet Aîné Hermitage La Chapelle France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage
90 points
At first the bouquet was somewhat locked with a touch of barnyard. Later it opened up; elegant and slightly mature. A sweet start on the palate, smoky, red fruits, herbs. Not extremely full bodied. Elegant style syrah. In the taste slightly mature as well. Given some air it offers very nice drinking now.
Red
1990 M. Chapoutier Hermitage La Sizeranne France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage
92 points
Mature bouquet with a little barnyard and some sweetness. Same in the taste as well as spiciness. Full bodied wine which still has good tannin for some more years. A treat!
Red
1998 Ojai Syrah Lot E.H. Roll Ranch Vineyard USA, California
93 points
Barnyard and good spices in the bouquet. Very juicy with good sweetness and acidity. Supple, soft and mature and elegant. Beautiful and complex wine, ready now, but no real hurry.
Red
1999 Domaine des Rémizières Hermitage Cuvée Émilie France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage
92 points
Little barnyard, spices and very juicy. Soft tannin and some pleasant bitterness. Long finish. The wine is in the beginning of its maturity stage.
Red
1998 Rolf Binder/Veritas Shiraz Heysen Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley
94 points
Soft chocolate and ripe black currant juice. A lot of sweetness. Well integrated oak. A very tempting wine. Beautiful drinking now, but no hurry.
Red
2006 Glaetzer Shiraz Amon-Ra Barossa Valley Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley
95 points
A lot of everything! Enormously concentrated. Ripe red as well as black fruits. Coffee, bacon etc. And behind of this there is elegance as well. But it is still so young. Although I will probably not manage, next bottle at least 5 years from now. The score can only go up.
Red
2007 Domaine de la Janasse Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Chaupin France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
95 points
Enormously juicy ripe black fruits. Spicy, soft tannin and bitterness. Sweetness and acidity in beautiful harmony. This is great stuff.
Red
2007 Domaine de Ferrand Châteauneuf-du-Pape France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
95 points
Full bodied and concentrated lush wine. Ripe black fruits. Spicy and soft. Very well balanced. Another 2007 C9 success.
Red
2007 Domaine de Cristia Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
97 points
Rich, lush, graceful. This is so complete. Concentrated and refined. Very juicy, perfect balance. No words for it.
