Introduction

We all brought a few wines blind.
The host made the line-up.
We tasted all wines blind.

Flight 1 (2 notes)

White - Sparkling
N.V. Veuve Clicquot Champagne Brut France, Champagne
85 points
Tasted/drank this wine on many occasions. Not really bad, but not really special either. I wrote one earlier note; probably from the first time I tasted this Champagne. Tasted a lot of good Champagne since. And then I must say there is so much better on the market, even for better prices. Nothing wrong with this wine. Pleasant, dry and a good commercial product. Nothing exiting though.

White - Sparkling
N.V. Charlier & Fils Champagne Carte Noire Brut France, Champagne
83 points
Although this is a Brut, it has quite much sweetness. Not my type of Champagne.

Flight 2 (8 notes)

White
1999 Felton Road Chardonnay Barrel Fermented New Zealand, South Island, Otago, Central Otago
88 points
A lot of oak, but good tropical fruits behind it. Banana. Mouth full of wine. Long finish. Good bitterness. Lacking some elegance. Still amazingly fresh.
White
2007 Daniel & Julien Barraud Pouilly-Fuissé En Buland Vieilles Vignes France, Burgundy, Mâconnais, Pouilly-Fuissé
88 points
Elegant wine. Soft citrus and tropical fruits with a pleasant dose of oak.
White
2006 Jean-Jacques Vincent Pouilly-Fuissé Les Brûles Château de Fuissé France, Burgundy, Mâconnais, Pouilly-Fuissé
90 points
Fresh. Soft tropical fruits and firm citrus. Firm dose of good oak. Elegant.
White
2006 Jobard-Morey Meursault France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault
Citrus, tropical fruits and bitterness, but also something which is not completely fresh. Just a bit corked? Something else? Not sure. Hope it is the bottle. No score.
White
2005 Domaine de la Vougeraie Vougeot Clos du Prieuré Blanc France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vougeot
Strange bouquet. Organic. Apples. Yeasty. Same in the taste. Probably an off bottle. No score.
White
2008 Hamilton Russell Vineyards Chardonnay South Africa, Cape South Coast, Walker Bay, Hemel-en-Aarde Valley
89 points
Ripe tropical fruits. Firm amount of citrus and bitterness from the oak. Needs more time.
White
2004 Domaine Jacques Prieur Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Combettes France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru
91 points
Expressive and tasty wine. Firm amount of citrus acidity, good bitterness from the luxurious oak. The fruit can handle the oak easily. Full bodied, elegant and a long finish.
White
2003 Domaine / Maison Vincent Girardin Puligny-Montrachet Vieilles Vignes France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet
89 points
Soft citrus, tropical fruits. Excellent use of good oak. Very elegant wine. Ready now, no real hurry.

Flight 3 (18 notes)

Red
2001 Château La Louvière France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan
87 points
A good amount of red and black fruits. Firm tannin and bitterness. Still quite young. Give it another 3+ years of cellaring. Might gain a point.
Red
2001 Château Bahans Haut-Brion France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan
89 points
Full bodied. A lot of liquorice. Cassis. Soft and ripe tannin. Elegant but still enough power for a few more years. A great pleasure.
Red
2001 Chevalier de Lascombes France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
89 points
Impressive! So much better than the bottle I tasted in 2006. Ageing did the wine so good. Expressive and complex bouquet with luxurious toasted oak and a pleasant bit of barnyard. Liquorice. Cassis. Juicy and a pleasant sweetness. Great second wine and qpr! Pleasure now but keeping it for another 3+ years will not be a problem.
Red
2001 Château Montrose France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe
93 points
Beautiful bouquet with barnyard and liquorice. Juicy cassis and luxurious oak. Still very youthful. Double decanted several hours before drinking it is already a great pleasure, but keeping it another 5 - 8+ years might be rewarding.
Red
2003 Château Meyney France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe
89 points
Full bodied and very juicy. A lot of good bitterness and concentration. A sweet start. Still very youthful.
Red
2001 Seña Chile, Aconcagua Valley
Very strange wine. Combination of acetone, cassis and sweetness. Not really the Chilean sweetness that I am familiar with in the cheaper wines. I have a slight cold at the moment, so my palate is not a 100% ok and the taste is very special. No score for the moment.
Red
1999 Château La Sergue France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Lalande de Pomerol
89 points
Toasted oak, cassis, liquorice and some pleasant sweetness, all in the bouquet as well as the taste. Harmonious wine. Ready now, but no hurry. Impressive Lalande de Pomerol.
Red
1995 Château Monbousquet France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
91 points
Luxurious bouquet with cigar box, toasted oak and cassis. Same in the taste. The tannin is still sticky and a bit drying in the finish (like many 1995 wines). Ready now, but it might even improve with some more ageing.
Red
2000 Château Haut-Bellevue Haut-Médoc France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Haut-Médoc
85 points
Red and black fruits. Soft tannin and bitterness. Elegant. Medium bodied. Not such a bad score, but disappointing for the vintage.
Red
1995 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
93 points
Luxurious bouquet with toasted oak, cassis and sweetness. In the taste cassis, licorice and sweetness as well. The tannin is soft and smooth. The wine is surprisingly mature and pleasant, but will stay on this level for several years.
Red
1999 Château d'Aiguilhe France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux
87 points
Black and red fruits. Good juice. Medium bodied. Soft tannin. Some pleasant sweetness. Ready now, no real hurry.
Red
1993 Château Latour Grand Vin France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
91 points
Luxurious and mature bouquet. Juicy cassis. Medium bodied. Exclusive but not really what it should be. Does it need a few more years?
Red
2003 Château Tour Haut-Caussan France, Bordeaux, Médoc
87 points
Harmonious and elegant. Good combination of sweetness and acidity. Beautiful ripe red and also some black fruits. Although not extremely complex and luxurious, this is a very complete wine. Ready now, but will stay on this level for another 2 or 3 years.
Red
2003 Château Calon-Ségur France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe
89 points
Creamy and round with vanilla in the bouquet. Soft and round tannin. Some sweetness. No more notes. I was not very impressed. Hope it is not the right drinking stage at the moment.

Red
2003 Château Pontet-Canet France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
92 points
Beautiful luxurious bouquet with good cassis and toasted oak. Good cassis juice in the mouth, liquorice, soft tannin but firm and some sweetness. Very youthful, but already a great pleasure. 92+
Red
2003 Château de la Rivière France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Fronsac
88 points
As previous notes. I can add coffee to the bouquet.
Red
2006 Clos Mogador Priorat Spain, Catalunya, Priorat
92 points
I did not make many more notes than beautiful, ripe and a lot of pleasant sweetness. Very happy to have 3 bottles in my cellar, so there will be a follow up.
Red
2005 Château Guerry France, Bordeaux, Côtes de Bourg
86 points
Full bodied. A lot of cassis, sweetness and elegance. Double decanted well before this wine gave more pleasure than a few months ago. Needs 3+ more years of ageing.

Flight 4 (1 note)

White - Sweet/Dessert
1999 Château d'Yquem France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes
92 points
A light weight d'Yquem. Of course complex and a beautiful wine, but for d'Yquem a bit disappointing.
