Flight 1 - To Start (4 notes)

White - Sparkling
2000 Dom Pérignon Champagne France, Champagne
91 points
Good array of orchard fruit aromas and flavors with good+ richness and balance, also good length. Rounded and soft textures, very easy to enjoy right now.

White - Sparkling
2002 Dom Pérignon Champagne France, Champagne
95 points
This wine just keeps getting better. Green and yellow apple with some lemon and lemon peel on finish. Great power, very good length with a mineral-driven and bright finish. Good now, better 2022 forward.

White - Sparkling
2006 Dom Pérignon Champagne France, Champagne
93 points
Slightly reductive for at least 20 minutes, slightly surprising. Plenty of apple and pear with savory spice notes. So powerful throughout with slightly awkward structure right now, but so much power and density. Needs time in the cellar.

Flight 2 - With Foie (2 notes)

White - Sweet/Dessert
2001 Château Suduiraut France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes
Plenty of fresh apricot, fat and rich start with good botrytis notes, but seemingly simple and devoid of complexity. Good length, good balance. An odd night for Sauternes, this was less exciting than I ever recall from before.

White - Sweet/Dessert
2001 Château Rieussec France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes
Even more perplexing and disappointing than the Suduiraut, this seemed somewhat advanced for the 2001 vintage with an acidity deficit and a somewhat simple finish. Inconsistent with many previous bottles.

Flight 3 - 2010 Corton Charlemagne (2 notes)

White
2010 Lucien Le Moine Corton-Charlemagne France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
My first time tasting since barrel tasting in 2012. Decanted an hour+ before serving, but still slightly reductive. Massive and very opulent, with a bit more new oak right now than I'd prefer. This is a very big wine, just hinting at its potential, with 92-93+ potential.
White
2010 Bonneau du Martray Corton-Charlemagne France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
94 points
Apple and pear throughout with some lemon cured notes. Started out very dense and powerful, then somewhat backward in the middle, then more expressive and powerful again on its long finish. Wonderful ow, but really just hinting at its full potential.

Flight 4 - Aubert 2011 (2 notes)

White
2011 Aubert Chardonnay CIX Estate Vineyard USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast
90 points
Fresh and bright with also lush and ripe. Forward and fun with enough structure for now, but slightly simple and probably not enough acidity for cellaring much longer.

White
2011 Aubert Chardonnay UV-SL Vineyard USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast
92 points
Much more complex vs CIX in the next glass, even if more mature. Apple peach and earth with cooked spice notes. Very good weight and length. Drink up in the next few years.

Flight 5 - Clos St Jacques (3 notes)

Red
2002 Sylvie Esmonin (Michel et Fille) Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos St. Jacques France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
92 points
Slightly modern styled CSJ with plenty of new oak and richness that seems to hint at a cold soak and some whole cluster, things probably uncommon for most 2002 Gevrey 1ers. But it really works wonderfully here, with so much concentration and impressive length. Rich black fruit well complemented by dried rosemary and thyme. Probably still has upside from here.
Red
2002 Louis Jadot Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos St. Jacques Domaine Louis Jadot France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
flawed
Seemed fine when opened. Served an hour later, the nose was slightly corked, and the palate stripped of fruit.
Red
2003 Louis Jadot Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos St. Jacques Domaine Louis Jadot France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
92 points
Dense black fruit with slightly sweet spice.Good length, moderate finesse. Very fresh given the vintage. Certainly upside from here.

Flight 6 - Palmer Vertical (3 notes)

Red
1970 Château Palmer France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
92 points
In 70/83/89 vertical. Glorious aromas for the initial 20-30 minutes in glass. Fully mature black fruit, sweet liqueur, black truffle, earth and sweet spice. Similar palate with a good start, but slightly drying finish. Slowly started fading after some time in glass, and much less interesting after 30 minutes.
Red
1983 Château Palmer France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
In 70/83/89 vertical. Black fruit, meaty with cedar hints and mushroom. There was a lot here, but more seemed to be in reserve than in the forefront, so maybe (?) not the most perfect bottle.
Red
1989 Château Palmer France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
95 points
In 70/83/89 vertical. My favorite wine of the evening. Black plum and currant with savory spice and cassis. Impeccably harmonious with a long, expanding finish that almost sneaks up on you. So elegant.

Flight 7 - Sweets to Finish (4 notes)

White - Sweet/Dessert
1998 Alois Kracher Chardonnay TBA #9 Nouvelle Vague Austria, Burgenland, Neusiedlersee
94 points
Quince paste, Marcona almonds, baked figs and honeycomb in an extremely concentrated package that manages to retain great balance despite its nearly extreme sweetness. Not everybody enjoyed this as much as I did tonight. Very dark color.
White - Sweet/Dessert
2001 Alois Kracher Chardonnay TBA #3 Nouvelle Vague Austria, Burgenland, Neusiedlersee
91 points
A stark contrast to the 1998 #9, also Chardonnay, this is fresher, brighter and equally intriguing. Less weight or length, so slightly less alluring, but still so much fun.
White - Sweet/Dessert
1989 Château Rieussec France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes
90 points
Good weight and length with chewy apricot and good botrytis, but frankly I expected more nuance and complexity.
White - Sweet/Dessert
1988 Château d'Yquem France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes
Seemed even older than 30 yo, coming across as almost demi-sec. Nutty with rich peach and moderate/good weight and length. 90 points?
