White - Sparkling
2007 Philipponnat Champagne Brut Clos des Goisses France, Champagne

Fresh, bright and drinking well already. I'd almost call it easy drinking as its missing some heft and concentration.
White
2007 Trimbach Riesling Cuvée Frédéric Emile France, Alsace
flawed
Corked.

1991 François Raveneau Chablis Grand Cru Valmur France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru
90 points
Remarkably fresh for a 28 year old. This still has flavors that are all white fruit and mineral with very little mature flavors of earth, mushroom, honey, etc. My nit with the wine is that it lacks concentration. Very light and watery in body. All said, a charming Raveveau with lots of age. A rare treat.
Rosé - Sparkling
N.V. Georges Laval Champagne Premier Cru Rose Brut Nature Cumières France, Champagne, Champagne Premier Cru
85 points
Had this over two nights. Didn't evolve much but the earthy/funky character that was prominent on day one had blown off on day. It's a very straightforward fruity Rose with little depth or complexity. I don't get it. You can get the same with <$20 Cava.
White
2006 Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Meursault Les Narvaux France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault
Gorgeous aromatics of flinty white fruit and mineral. Good concentration but the wine is very compact driven by heavy reduction. Hard to enjoy or ascertain much on the palate. Odd that it didn't show on the nose. Frustrating aspect of PYCM's wines.
White
2011 Bouchard Père et Fils Meursault 1er Cru Les Perrières France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru

Enjoyed this over two nights. Drank consistently save a little less wood on night two. This is a really, really good Perrieres. Lifted, round aromatics. Great density and concentration with fresh, zippy acids.

1999 Château Palmer France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux

Blind. Attractive aromas of perfumed red fruit with some spice, licorice and new leather. Pure, lifted fruit on the palate. Refined and silky tannin. I went to Piedmont. Surprised this didn't show any traces of Cab character.

1982 Château Haut-Brion France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan

Gorgeous full and enthralling nose of mature plum and cherry, dried tobacco and herbs. The palate is nicely mature with still round and lush fruit that is laced with intense bell pepper and tobacco. Persistent. Stunning. Great now, but no signs of fading.

1982 Château La Mission Haut-Brion France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan

Blind. Towering 'wow' nose of mature plum and cherry with intense pencil lead, bell pepper and cigar ash. Crazy silky and intense on the palate. Fruit is still lush and the tannins refined. Just a seamless wonder of a wine. Served right after the 82 Haut Brion, and we knew this was in some way related. Most, including me, were guessing another first growth.

2000 Gaja Barbaresco Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barbaresco

Blind in a pair with 00 Bartolo. Pretty obviously Piedmont with red cherry, licorice, dried florals and musk. Fresh and round fruit with silky, refined tannin. Was guessing a traditional producer and somewhat surprised to see Gaja. No wood notes at all.
Red
2000 Bartolo Mascarello Barolo Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
Blind in a pair with 00 Gaja Barbaresco. Something was way off with this bottle. Advanced soy notes. Ick.

1986 Château Latour Grand Vin France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
95 points
Blind in a pair with 86 La Mish. Gorgeous, huge nose that leads with horsey funk, which I loved -- old leather, earth and funk interlaced with mature plum fruit. On the nose I was calling 89 or 90 Montrose. The palate is rich with still powerful fruit and present, but resolving tannin. Delicious, and preferred it slightly to the La Mish side-by-side.

Blind in a pair with 86 Latour. Mature plum fruit with loads of classic Cab notes -- bell pepper, cedar, pencil shavings. Nicely rich on the palate with velvety tannin. Some band-aid on the palate, which I found added to the depth. Good grip in the long finish. Plenty of fruit and structure left to age.

Blind. Youthful dense aromas of plum fruit, cigar and bell pepper. Rich and concentrated fruit paired with still gritty tannin. Excellent balance and tension. Layered with bell pepper, pencil shavings, and tobacco for days. An interesting contrast to the 80s Bordeaux. Clearly more rich and powerful. This is in an early drinking window and can go for decades.

2001 Bruno Giacosa Barbaresco Asili Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barbaresco
95 points
Served blind in a pair with 01 Rabaja Riserva. Decanted for ~7 hours, returned to the bottle and served a couple hours later. I preferred the aromas here, which were more intense and open for business. Strawberry and cherry, florals, licorice and spice with great brightness. The palate is so deliciously silky and ethereal. Tannins are still grippy, but soft and not at all harsh. This is an elegantly made wine in total harmony.

2001 Bruno Giacosa Barbaresco Riserva Rabajà Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barbaresco

Served blind in a pair with 01 Asili. Decanted for ~7 hours, returned to the bottle and served a couple hours later. Tighter aromas than the Asili but plenty of red cherry, licorice and musk. The palate really shines and shows more depth than the Asili (which in and of itself was outstanding). More density to the fruit and more expansive breadth on the palate. Terrific and fun now, but significant upside from here.

2006 Domaine Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage

Blind. Quite obviously N. Rhone. Rich, forward aromas of black fruit with loads of meat notes. The palate is youthful and richly fruited. Still in its decadent youth and showing some wood. But this is playfully delicious now and classically N. Rhone. Plenty of upside as this matures and gains depth.

1997 Giuseppe Quintarelli Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Italy, Veneto, Valpolicella, Amarone della Valpolicella Classico

Blind. Big nose with aromas of port-like fruit and chinato-like spice and herbs. The palate is quite dry and relatively lean for an Amarone (which is good as far as I'm concerned). Nice layering and depth. Great poise and balance. I often struggle with the heaviness of Amarone, but this is a delight and providing pleasure.

2004 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape Hommage à Jacques Perrin France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape

Blind. I was convinced that this was a high-end Australian Shiraz. Rich black fruit in the nose with a nice medley of herbs, including mint, and what I swore was hints of American Oak. Herbs just fooled me, I think. Palate was plummy and rich with juicy acidity. Nicely balanced and suave.

White - Sweet/Dessert
2001 Château Climens France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Barsac
From 375. Golden color. Rich and honeyed bruised apple and pear aromas. Decadent young fruit on the palate. Missing a bit of acidity and freshness.

2005 Bouchard Père et Fils Chambertin France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin Grand Cru
Blind. Late night pop n' pour. This was shockingly open and approachable for a 2005 GC, particularly Chambertin which usually needs so much time. Generous and plush pure cherry fruit with nice meat spice throughout. While open this rather primary and straight forward. Should improve and gain complexity. I'll hold for 5-10+ years.

2015 Nervi-Conterno Gattinara Italy, Piedmont, Northern Piedmont, Gattinara
Late night Pop n' Pour. Really attractive and polished. Fairly classic Nebbiolo in a traditional style. Seamless with no rough edges.
