Flight 1 - Champ Openers (3 notes)
White - Sparkling
1985 Deutz Champagne Blanc de Blancs
PnP. Mature notes, but not overly oxidized. Tiny bubbles left. A favorite of those who like those round, well-developed notes. Not my favorite.
White - Sparkling
2006 Taittinger Champagne Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs Brut
PnP. Wide open for business right now. Well balanced, less precision than the 08/12, but more yielding all around.

White - Sparkling
N.V. Krug Champagne Brut Grande Cuvée Edition 170ème
PnP. Classic Krug yeasty, brioche toast notes with lemon curd. This was also wide open and much moreso than the 168 recently, but probably not quite at that level.

Flight 2 - Champagne (3 notes)
White - Sparkling
2008 Dom Pérignon Champagne
Opened 30 minutes prior. Best showing so far of this cuvee; it is really starting to come into the drinking zone. Starting to become less linear and develop those secondary notes. More time in the glass continued to develop layers of flavor and a lovely finish. This is a classic vintage for the ages.

Rosé - Sparkling
2008 Dom Pérignon Champagne Rosé
Opened 30 minutes prior. Such perfectly balanced strawberry fruit and bright acidity. Lots of depth, but no fat. Right in line and absolutely lovely. Top 2 at the table.
White - Sparkling
2012 Salon Champagne Blanc de Blancs Brut
Opened 1 hour prior. Such precision and wonderful depth. This is already way more open than the 96, 02 or 04 were recently. Could be the best Salon ever made? Time will tell, but stock up now. Top 2 at the table, probably the favorite for most.

Flight 3 - Monty (3 notes)
White
2017 Faiveley Bâtard-Montrachet
Decanted 30 minutes prior. Still very tight and almost a little bit angry for being opened. Great weight, good body and a few hours in the glass revealed lovely white fruits framed in a touch of oak.
White
2017 Jean-Claude Ramonet Bâtard-Montrachet
Decanted 30 minutes prior. Wide open, rather fat and unctuous. Classic spearmint notes, although subtle and a nice round frame. Very drinkable right now.
White
2019 Domaine Michel Niellon Chevalier-Montrachet
Decanted 30 min prior. Needed even more time to really start to open up. Best sips were at the end of the night. Good, solid weight and texture. Lovely body and layers of flavor. Maybe a touch off the best examples of this vineyard, but definitely needs a lot more time.

Flight 4 - Intermezzo (2 notes)
White
2017 François Raveneau Chablis 1er Cru Butteaux
PnP. Crisp and fresh. Touch of minerality, but held its own with the Batards next to it. Good depth and lovely drink. Such a great wine, but I don't think the value is there at the current market pricing.
White
2015 Jean-Claude Ramonet Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Ruchottes
PnP. Rounder notes with the classic spearmint profile. Solid weight and always a lovely drink. Not quite as chiseled as the '14 or '17, but not flabby in any way. Just a bit thicker, rounder profile.
Flight 5 - Flawed (3 notes)
White
1979 Robert Ampeau & Fils Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Combettes
flawed
Some thought it was just cellar funk, but it was definitely lightly corked.
Flight 6 - Beaux Monts (2 notes)
Red
2008 Domaine Dujac Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Beaux Monts
Decanted 30 min prior. Well developed and open for business. Classic Vosne spice notes and red fruit with good flesh and solid acidity. Vintage that's drinking well in the secondary stage.
Red
2005 Domaine Jean Grivot Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Beaux Monts
Decanted 30 min prior. This screams 2005: nose has loads of ripe red fruit and palate has tons of body and tannins. Just starting to reach an acceptable drinking window, it's quite lovely, but not nearly as open as the 2008. Doesn't look like it will peak for at least another 10 years.
Flight 7 - Mix (3 notes)
Red
2001 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape
PnP. Well developed CdP. Interesting comparison next to all the Burgs, but not my favorite and I moved on quickly.

Red
1976 Château La Mission Haut-Brion
PnP. Small glass. A bit dense and disjointed for me. Also my pour was from the end of the bottle and was a bit cloudy. Earlier pours seemed to be fresher. Enjoyed the Jordan much more.
Red
1976 Jordan Vineyard & Winery Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley
PnP. Small glass. Not much sediment. Very clear, light color. Decent body. Nose was interesting, but the palate was right on point for its age. The fruit had faded a bit, but was well integrated. A very well made wine and enjoyable. Tasted more like Bordeaux than the LMHB.

Flight 8 - Beze (2 notes)
Red
2014 Domaine Drouhin-Laroze Chambertin-Clos de Bèze
Opened 2 hours prior. Initially a bit tight, but opened with more time in the glass. Good, round fruits, lovely weight and body and a nice acid spine. It's a bit fleshier with a lack of structure compared to the Rousseau.
Red
2014 Domaine Armand Rousseau Père et Fils Chambertin-Clos de Bèze
Opened 2 hours prior. Absolutely on point. Great precision, perfect weight and body, and the finish just goes on and on. WOTN for me and probably many others.

Flight 9 - Wildcard (1 note)
Red
1985 Maison Leroy Chorey-les-Beaune
PnP. Cork seemed soaked all the way through, but came out perfectly in one piece. Absolutely beguiling nose. So sultry and sexy and positively voluptuous. Layers upon layers of red fruit and spice. Palate is good, still holding together, but a bit faded and lacks weight. My first Leroy. Better drink probably 10 years ago, but I will never forget the nose.
