Introduction

Drank as part of a flight of Haut Brion and La Mission Haut Brion at our table of nine at the Steve Hanson's Primehouse, NYC during the Wine and Food Society of New York annual BYOB.

Flight 1 - HAUT BRION (8 notes)

Drank Haut Brion (61,75,81,82,83,89,90,98)

Red
1961 Château Haut-Brion France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan
99 points
Pure and intense magnificence. This wine is like the northwest woods with a campfire greeting the adventurer to a world of cedar and smoke. As you embrace this full-bodied darkly deep and transparent red classic, the sweet raspberry and blackberry fruits are layered with spice and chocolate. Is this the king of all desserts, a sumptuous meal, or just nirvana? Rate a 99 but is probably a perfect 100.
Red
1975 Château Haut-Brion France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan
98 points
Decanted for an hour plus this full-bodied, rich and ripe with balanced tannin, wine is a complex classic everything a Bordeaux should be with a nose of sweet fruit and herb. The tobacco and smoke linger with the balanced tannins, this is delicious drinking!

Medium bodied, dark ruby color with ripe tannins and good black currant fruit, there are earthy aromas of herbs and spices with the usual leather and cedar.

A Ripe and fragrant wine, the cassis merges with the toasted smoke-herb aroma. Rich and delicious, balanced and beautiful, this is a full-bodied forward and fruity wine-with gobs of concentration that makes this a meal in itself.

Struts its stuff with flare and finesse, this full-bodied wine has a blackberry nose, a holiday English rich and sweet fruitcake aroma. The cedar and spice that is also found in Haut Brion make this a layered fruit delight that is chewey and cheerful.

Drank very little- how much can nine people drink- I corked and took this bottle home. Put the nitrogen cylinder on it right away and drank four days later over the weekend. For a young wine it is complex and elegant. Cherries and plums mix with pencil, wood and cigar in this concentrated wine with sweet and supple tannins.
