poured in large burgundy glasses and let it sit for approx 30-45 minutes before serving it to the dinner guests. paired with a chicken-marsala-stew, it was singing. the harmony between the sweet and bitter notes from the stew and the acidity of the nebbiolo-grapes was very enjoyable. one for the books.

deep golden hue, warming honey, floral notes and a long, lingering after taste. paired with a broccoli-brussel sprouts soup, this was extremely in its happy place. very happy I kept this last bottle for so long. it was a spectacular surprise.

At twelve years old, this Chianti Classico has emerged from its reductive state - and is all about showing its potential, aided by a little decant.

Ripe red forest fruits, wet forest, fresh herbs, cedar wood and plums in the nose, staying vibrant and no signs of fatique. A tad of mushrooms added to the bouquet after 2h of air.

Fresh, fully integrated tannins on the palate, yet with just the right amounts of acidity as a proper backbone, to carry the remaining fruits to a lenghty finish.

Great QPR - I bought and added this to my cellar in December 2011 at a price point of €12. Drink now.

24h in opened bottle or 4h decant - it’s the minimum this wine needs to tame its acidity. but once you’ve managed to manage your patience ... you’ll be rewarded with a glorious glass of Ligurian Vermentino at its best. Yellow stonefruits, honey melon and white berries, it’s all there. Enjoy a bottle of two now, but keep some for future reference too!

Poured one glas with Coravin last night, straight from the cellar at 12 degrees Celcius.
Let it sit and breathe for approx. 2 hours.

Nose gives you all deep dark purple and black forest fruits you can imagine, yet with a cool freshness of mint and eucalyptus on the side.
Mouthfeel is incredible; it conquers all taste buds with its tannins, fully integrated - delivering this fantastic fight between sweetness, acidity and tannins - with you as the winner.
Balanced, layered, meditative.

I drank the glass over the course of 2-3 hours, one small sip at the time. No food, just time and space. It didn't turn jammy or cooked, remained its freshness and layered self.
Will revisit this bottle over the next few weeks - and update this review along the way.

I fully agree with Forceberries review, whereas the balance of the wine is just perfect, right now.

Paired with smoked halibut and fennel.

Over the years I've collected some Rieslings, especially from 2009/2010/2011. Slowly drinking them now. Grown on blue slate soils in the Mosel-area.
Fragrance is typical older Riesling, with yellow fruits and petroleum. The first sip:loads of minerality, then a fine Mirabelle flavor and a hint of spicy herbs. The wine is delicate and powerful at the same time. Its structure remains refreshing, adding sugar honey suckle in the finish. Great balance.

12yo - of which it has been in my cellar for seven years and five weeks. :)

PnP at 12 degrees, straight from cellar. Fresh, cool, eucalyptus, peppery. Evolves in large Bordeaux glass quite quickly... if not too quick. I’m wondering whether it will stay upright for 24 hours. I don’t think so.

Still strong backbone of tannins, yet fully integrated and rich ripe red fruits combat with tertiary notes such as tobacco and sandal wood.

It’s good, it’s probably past its prime, so drink now and drink around 16-17 degrees.

Paired it with a slow braised 1.6kg Côte-de-Bœuf - which was a darn good match. Happy weekend y’all.

I drank this one too early. It's already good, but still high in its acidity, almost painfully young. needs 2-3 years to soften out - and will probably last 10 years on the back of its 10-15% barrique component. well made, will become better.

such a pleasure - and such a pleaser. five grape blend of grechetto, malvasia, trebbiano, sauvignon blanc and riesling. awesome balance between acidity and sweet fruits. complete mouthfeel, and one of the best wines i’ve ever paired with a broad selection of dishes, varieing from salsify, chicken liver parfait to gnocchi and veal cheek. recommended big time!

It seems unfair to rate this wine against all wines of the world. It’s a DOCG Prosecco Superiore and it’s truly well made. Fine mousse, hints of citrus, fresh and crispy, it kicks off any event you’ve got planned. Whether it’s a pleasant evening on the couch or a full-on party in the city’s best discotheque - this is your sparkling launch into pleasure. QPR is very good. 89pts vs. all wines, 95pts vs. all non-Champagne sparklies.

PnP; opened without much confidence, didn’t expect it to have stand the test of time. But I was wrong. Still quite tannic, although they have softenedover the years. Dark, ripe red fruits, gae and enough aciditytogive it a good back bone. Certainly isn’t going to improve, it’s past its peak. If you have any left, drink them this autumn.

PnP - at 16 degrees Celcius. This Syrah-driven blend (>60%, with ~20% Merlot and ~20% CabSauv) is still fresh and voluptuous.
Bright forest fruits, hint of mint and eucalyptus, some graphite and a peppery finish. It's all there and it's silky smooth.
Drink now.

This is such a pleasant surprise. Nose of thick forest fruit marmelade, smokey, butter-baked-rosemary, leather, earthy.
Still very powerful on the palate, with more smokeyness, black fruits, a touch of mint and game.
I've been drinking many 8-12yo Tuscan Reds over the past two months - this one has surprised me the most in terms of development and quality.

according to the community reviews and winemakers’ notes this Riesling should be ‘overdue’. newsflash: it isn’t. it’s in a pretty nice place right now. bought early 2013, € 7 per bottle. drinks like a > € 20 Riesling right now. it was so worth the wait. more formal note will follow with my last bottle.

From ‘03 till ‘06 I spent close to four years in Melbourne, Australia and got acquainted with the phrase “good quaff”. An easy-to-drink, pleasurable, quaffable, enjoyable, keep-on-drinking-without-getting-boring, pairable-with-food-or-to-drink-stand-alone type of wine. Well, here you go. Look no further. Iconic bottle, under €10, tingy on the tongue, fruity, good acidity, forgiving regardless the temperature - this is just a good wine. A benchmark Lugana to me, each and every year! This is a nice quaff!

Being a parent of three kids aged under 11yo, I still need a baby sitter on a night out with the missus. We walked 20 mins to 4850 - a lovely wine bar in Amsterdam - and I wrongfully picked this delicious wine. Wrongfully because it’s extremely young. And because of my mistake the wine only began to blossom half an hour before we had to head back home. But: lovely citrus, cloudberries and even a touch of saltiness, combined with rigid acidity and the best butter available to please you. Drink in 3+ years.

Combine a rich Pinot Grigio and seven years of cellaring and you'll get a golden straw-coloured wine with luscious aromas.
Notes of ripe sugarmelon, dried apricot and dates in the nose and a ripe yet sturdy acidity to give it a good balance.
If you have any left, drink over the next 12 months. Combine with grilled coquilles with a pinch of sea salt.

(4.75) 5 years of cellaring have boosted this great Pinot Nero in such an immense way...it has got it all. Your first sniff takes you straight to a damp forest, where deers and rabbits are playing poker and smoking cigars, coming from sandalwood boxes, whilst lavishing themselves on wild raspberries and red currant for breakfast. This wine is wild and I’m extremely sad about the fact this is my very last 2010 bottle of the Matan. Tip: buy the 2013 and 2015 and savour them until 2020-2023. Awesome.

Those of you following my tasting notes might have noticed that I’m clearing some space in the cellar. This nice Pinot Nero is my next victim, after it spent just over 5 years ‘downstairs’. Awesome colour, ruby/brick. Paired with a carrot/parsnip/potato-stew it carried the sweetness and the earthyness of the dish on its remarkable fresh acidity. Well made wine, very ready to drink now.

At the respectable age of 10y this Gewurz needs 8+ hours to show its full potential. A promising nose, typical for the variety, captures you into a fantasy forest of all aromatic flowers you can imagine. On the palate however, its age outpowers its basic quality: there’s only just, just, just enough acidity left to give it a - albeit fragile - backbone to carry the balance.

Well here you go. Most pundits I know prefer star-winemaker Anselmi’s San Vincenzo as young as they come. Well here’s a secret: I don’t!

Whilst his 2017 is about to hit the market, I’m convinced his 2014 SV is just at its peak. The nose is confusing: honey infused sauv blanc? Close!

Soave’s Garganega-varietyis playing with a minority of SB - which gives it acidity, fruits, length, depth and longuevity. Leave all your current vintage bottles for 2-3 years, simply to treat yourself. The wine is worth it.

Did you ever try a Suave? Did you like it. Regardless whether your answer is yes or no, you should definately try Anselmi’s Capitel Croce. 100% Garganega (Suave’s main grape variety), a touch of oak and ripe grapes gives you a honey-packed, ripe golden yellow white wine with depth and length, suaving you into its devellish spell. White and yellow stonefruiys complete the palate. Buy now (the 2015/2016) and drink in 24/36 months. Go!

PnP. Sanz’ basic Verdejo comes from 40+yo vines and gets quite a bit of time on its own lees prior to botteling. It’s actually one of my favourite whites under €10. Golden yellow, aromatic fruity nuances of pineapple and a touch of grapefruit, even slightly vegetable. Full bodied palate, it’s fruity and packed with a refreshing acidity. Let the spring begin.
