Tasting pour at the winery. Named for the wine maker, Elias Fernandez, and his " relentless pursuit of quality" . Over the years they have cut back on the percent of Petite Sirah, this year it was 89% Syrah and 11% PS. Spent 30 months in new French oak. Smoke, bacon, tobacco and cedar. A little lighter this year of at least it seems to be at this early age. I tend to give these several years of bottle age before opening. Love the older bottles, buy some evert year.

Really good on the night of opening when I had a couple of glasses. Then went away for a few days, leaving it under vacuum, and it had gone a little off. Still good, but not as good. Score reflects first night.

I knew that everyone would enjoy this (and they did), but we found this to be large and unimpressive. You can get this style of wine for a lot less.

Celebrating birth of my second child, a healthy baby boy. (Also my tasting note #600.)
super complex nose, although a bit closed this time .
still drinking young, but unfortunately a bit thin and acidic - this bottle is definately a little off compared to previous experiences

I agree with Gary. Decanted for an hour and served with burgers at Wakonda in Des Moines, this bottle had a very pretty initial nose that could have been Pichon. But it faded quickly, and after another hour or so it was quite tired. Tasty, but should have been more.

Perfect for make-your-own-sushi night. The power and finesse of this wine blew me away. I really enjoyed this bottle and will most certainly get some more. Gorgeous notes of pear, honeysuckle, and morning rain. Bright acidity and a lovely, stout body.

Lovely earthy, moss, forest floor, and moist tobacco with cherries and assorted ripe red fruits. This is a good value wine.

Olive tapenade, balsamic and crushed black pepper on the nose; old world mustiness with ripe red fruit on the palate. Opened up wonderfully over dinner but probably wouldn't purchase it again with a markup, only at retail.

1/26/18, 6:12 AM - Haha, good catch. But the date is actually correct. I recently got onto CellarTracker and so what I'm doing is taking all of the wines I've consumed that I have logged in the wine-rating app "Delectable" and am simply migrating my tasting scores/notes from the app to CellarTracker. That's why you see the discrepancies in dates, as many of these wines I'm "consuming" were actually consumed years ago. Sorry for the confusion!

1/26/18, 6:27 AM - I'm sure it looks quite funny, agreed! In regards to the drinking window I'd say you have up until 2029, give-or-take. Syrah from Crozes-Hermitage can last for quite a while, if stored properly and if made by a quality producer, which this one is. That being said if you opened now I'm sure it would be quite lovely and that you wouldn't be disappointed.
