4/22/24, 9:45 AM - fine note, thanks for sharing
4/21/24, 2:53 PM - good to read you, sir
4/21/24, 2:49 PM - fine note, thanks. '96 was, imho and according to several winemakers in Barbaresco, quite good,; 4,5/5 type good, with some going beyond. fwiw
4/14/24, 2:41 PM - I'm guessing you're going to be golden. Well played
4/11/24, 3:10 PM - nice to read this, cheers
4/1/24, 10:40 PM - brilliant, ty
1/10/24, 7:29 AM - pregoha! I'd forgotten that you'd gotten one from me. Maybe I only have two left :-)
4/1/24, 10:34 PM - bring it, throw your darts!Leaving Denver in 5 hours heading to Kansas City, only wishing Omaha was the destination 😔
3/28/24, 8:42 AM - Hi, Thomassorry for the delay, I'm traveling through 6 April. Please write me at winestrategies at gm ail and I'll get back to you one I return. It's a good question, btw. In the meantime, be saving for the '21 releases, buy everything you can get your hands on from this producer and several others.
3/24/24, 11:58 AM - appreciate the fine note
3/8/24, 4:56 PM - fine note, thank you
3/8/24, 5:40 AM - great note, cheers
2/27/24, 2:25 PM - you'll get no argument from me
2/25/24, 1:38 PM - great note, thanks
2/22/24, 9:14 AM - prego, John. I'd let it aerate for 2-3 hours if I had it to do again. Kinda feels like it needs a kick start :-)
2/20/24, 2:37 PM - I picked up four bottles from JJ Buckley some years ago ( @ $45 )
2/18/24, 5:40 AM - fine note, cheers
2/13/24, 3:58 PM - a win! I was just in IT Oct-Dec; I always transit through JFK for Emirates. If you're in metro area, maybe we'll be able to meet. I'll do the same in '24 with any luck. winestrategies at Gmail
2/13/24, 4:02 PM - it's obvious why I went through a few after tasting the first one, yes? If people knew the whole story, this would be $100+ all day long. Probably more.
2/11/24, 10:39 AM - good to read you, Chris. I'm confident you'll appreciate this wine. be well.
2/5/24, 5:27 PM - helpful note, cheers
2/2/24, 4:35 PM - if you have several of the '19, you should check it out. good stuff!
2/1/24, 7:55 AM - exactly as it should be, grazie.
1/31/24, 7:02 AM - the product (s) will definitely not be the same; change/taste is already apparent. The new company has its own idea. Paolo departed for good nearly 60 days ago. What an incredible legacy. He and his wife are very special people. Thanks for the comment/info.
1/30/24, 5:09 PM - good to read you. This is a label worthy of investigation, too. La Sibilla Piedirosso Campi Flegrei. Congrats on your recent trailblazing in Vesuvio region.
1/29/24, 11:08 AM - '17 and '18 are red-headed stepchildren of '16, and yet my favorite producers did some things in those vintages that I really appreciate. I'm guessing your favorite producers managed to do the same. One example: a recent '17 Barolo Classico was fantastic from first to last taste; it well exceeded expectations. It would have been a shame if I'd missed out on it.
1/29/24, 11:57 AM - Rick, I'd say look and see if there are wines still available from either of those vintages beginning with your favorite (Nebbiolo) producers in Le Langhe. If none are available, see if you can find some from similar producers. Our palates may not align on Barolo/Barbaresco/Roero/Alto Piemonte/Valtellina, and so go with what you know. Growers like: Ar. Pe. Pe., Valfaccenda, E. Grasso, Podere e Cantina Oddero, Principiano, Voghera, Albano, Olek Bondonio, etc., are but a few that come to mind. It could be fun building a six pack from a store that's still got a decent selection - you may even find a new fav producer, who knows?? Enjoy the hunt. fwiw, the '17 Barolo wines I've really been happy with have been the Classico from: Margherita Otto and Burlotto. Don't think I've opened any others yet. Maybe I'll remedy that now that I think about it.
1/29/24, 8:09 AM - indeed it was, and much appreciated. I have two left, but they're 1800 miles away. I hope to repatriate them in the next quarter. If successful, they'll be gone before independence day. cheers
1/28/24, 4:45 AM - it's encouraging to read this; my recent one was obviously off piste. cheers
1/27/24, 12:26 PM - in a way, of course, but, I think Daniele made it (in 2018, that is). I'm happy that you're familiar with him. There were no labels on CT, and since his name is on the bottles/labels, I felt like I needed to tend to that. Because Tiziano.
1/27/24, 1:02 PM - I think maybe the '12, on release. Thinking it was the first 'official' one. Tried '13, too, but nothing in between. Seems like ages ago. Sospiro.
1/27/24, 9:57 AM - an in 2020, iirc, I said 'highly recommended'. Maybe it's bottle/cork variation, maybe this is its new course. No one can say. As I have two remaining, I certainly hope the next one will be a return to form. But if this bottle is truly representative of where it's (they are?) going, then so be it. I can only report what was in the glass, and while I was hoping for more, I was content with what I got. Thanks for the comment.
1/25/24, 12:27 PM - Rick, amico mio, piena assoluzione has been granted ;-)But honestly, as long as people are drinking what they like, then they're drinking the right wine. To each his/her/their own. Should you find you need more room to store Unico or Valbuena, lmk, I'll give you my shipping address. That's what friends do.
1/16/24, 8:41 PM - great note, grazie
1/16/24, 8:40 PM - si, bravo 😎
1/7/24, 6:33 PM - love the note, ty
1/4/24, 9:33 PM - another great note; thanks for the data point. Totally share your initial impression on this (and many other) '15
1/2/24, 9:38 AM - great note, thanks for the data point
1/1/24, 3:36 PM - wow, major bummer
1/1/24, 12:26 PM - Brilliant! (buying more), though there's some guilt associated with being an enabler, too. ;-) Salute
1/1/24, 7:08 AM - I do have this in magnum, and I'm very grateful for your detailed note.
12/31/23, 5:38 AM - TCA, bummer
11/22/20, 3:16 PM - About 20 months ago, I opened a 2005 for a buyer for a natural wine store in Germany. My bottle was shot, all the fruit was gone, but tons of acid remained. Personally, I think it might have recovered on day 2, but it was at a dinner near Dusseldorf, so I'll never know. That said, because of the winemaking growing/process there, I think they're all at their best within 5-8 years from vintage. Not to say some won't last, but rather to say I'll open them when the odds are in their favor. Not all wines need to age to get better, as you know.
12/25/23, 7:16 AM - I honestly can't remember the last time I drank wine without food; maybe 20 years ago? Honest answer, not sure if it helps.
12/24/23, 2:45 AM - really great note, thanks
12/22/23, 10:05 AM - great note, thanks for the data point. One of the annual purchases I look forward to with plenty of zeal. The dishes sound delightful.
12/20/23, 9:09 AM - great, and helpful note as always, Randy. Good to read you, hope you're well. Paolo's last days, post-sale, were at the end of Nov. What a story he wrote, wow.
12/16/23, 5:24 AM - Ciao amico mioè bello leggerti!
12/13/23, 8:07 PM - my friend and I both agreed, started to really get going at the 1hr mark, continued from there
12/8/23, 11:56 PM - last night at Roscioli in Rome, Danilo Scenna's Palmieri Lecinaro, quite lovely, €39
12/3/23, 9:50 PM - Bob, just accept that you enjoy pickled meat, feet, and sweet oak. The truth will set you free!Good to see you in the saddle again, Chris.
12/4/23, 3:16 PM - Bob, you have the palate of a yak. A beautiful, golden haired yak that sings a perfect a capella. Regards from Brescia; had a great dinner with your brother from another mother tonight. Which is to say, good times.
12/3/23, 9:52 PM - killer meal. Any more of these in the cellar? My months long trek through Italia wraps in 9 more days; will be in touch.
11/28/23, 10:58 AM - Fabio Alessandria
11/17/23, 12:50 PM - cool. Spent the day in Bolgheri, now in Greve. My reward for a long day is this fine note. Curious if. it's from your cellar, or Steve's - I know he has a bunch. Back in FL jail ~ 14 Dec. Decent chance I'll breeze through there mid- Jan. Hope you are well.
11/10/23, 11:41 AM - Thanks for the fine note; will open mine in the coming five years, preferably with a friend or two. I'm currently in Langhe - the '19s are, generally speaking, excellent. I prefer them to the nascent '20 and '21s I've sampled; 19s remind me very much of the classic '13s, fwiw.
Thanks for letting us know about this problem. We will review your comments and be in touch soon with an update.
