Nose is reluctant to emerge, subtle and understated. Once you find it, smells like medieval Christmas -- dried fruits stewed in brandy and spice, a theme that continues. Solid acid on the palate, with chalk, limestone, and then powdery cedar and wood. The tannins are *really* grippy still, and with another decade might get into chewy. Some of the blackberry bush's twigs and stems, not so much leaves or fruit. Finish is remarkable, and lingers far past what I expected. As the finish lingers, it starts to hint at creamy vanilla. *Really* needs more time. In another decade, this will be a different wine, hopefully silken and chewy. It's good, *really* good, but not yet what it could be. Wait, and revisit.
Tasted with some food, the fruit emerges much more, still tight black-fruit flavors. Doesn't change the character but lets you get much more of the fruit out. Chalky notes overtake the limestone. Better with food this young, but still deserves to be tasted in 10+ years when the real show starts.
After 4+ hours in a ship's decanter, even this young it starts to open more. The acidity and tannic rigidness integrate better, and wood with a bit of mint takes a much more prominent role in the palate. Generally, I feel like this wine would be better with bottle age taking the edge off and leaving the subtlety and beauty available from the 1-2 hour point. But absent that, letting it breath for 4 hours will let the excellence emerge here.
Opulent, lush, and loaded with layers of perfectly ripe, black and red plums, chocolate, cherries, flowers, truffle, licorice, smoke, and a background note of mint. The wine is concentrated, long, deep, and fresh, with silky tannins and a finish that doesn't want to quit. Drink from 2023-2045.

High intensity aromas of ripe blackberry, black cherry, plum, blueberry, strawberry, cinnamon, cloves, leather, sandal wood, dusty dirt road, mocha, dark chocolate, vanilla, licorice, menthol.
Pronounced palate.
Full body, high acidity, high tannin, long finish.
Incredible texture and structure. Still very young and primary with tertiary just starting to show through. Tannins are still prominent and need more time to integrate.

Acker Pre-Auction September 2022 (Redbury Lounge): From a magnum, much too young, but with some really good potential so let’s give it a lot more time. Right now it’s still a bit more primary and not quite integrated.

Pomerol night (Chicago, IL): This is starting down the path of the anonymous international style a bit for me. A distinctive chocolatey note both in terms of the flavour and some textural creaminess as well. Quite sweet and ripe, with a slight bit of bitter oak tannin here. Drinking much better than a very disappointing 2010 Evangile alongside.

This wine is a sure thing every time we've opened it. This bottle was no exception. It was opened early in the day and let to slow ox. Special occassion of post-graduation party tasting with Aline and John. Later decanted and drank slowly with a wine and cheese where we also drank 1998 VCC as a 12 vs 24 year head to head of these two stars. The 98 VCC is incredible (see notes) but the 2010 Clinet certainly held it's own and it did not feel like a major step down going back to it after taking sips of the 98 VCC. We all thought the 98 VCC was better but they were so different. It was so fun to savor these two wines alongside each other, one so much more primary and the other entering a secondary phase of evolution but both being wonderful examples of Pomerol. We opened and decanted the VCC around the time we started on this bottle to try to get the timing right. I knew the 98 VCC could use a decant but didn't need as much time to open up. Clinet continues to be a real competitor with the top wines of Pomerol at a fraction of the price. I buy it almost every vintage after tasting many vintages (the first one I ever tasted was the stunning and surprising 2011 Clinet) and they have all been superb and reflective of the vintage. I think I'll be happy about that decision when I retire. 96+

Deep red color. On the palate, massive fruit extract, iron, and good grip, it has both a tannic and explosive, lingering finish. Too young today. I’d guess another 5 years will see it to maturity.

Blackberry, chocolate, smoke, hints of pepper; smooth, layered, thick, textured, clinging, tannic, with a very long lingering finish, though a little simple at present; excellent structure but needs time After Three Hours: Very similar but more intense with the chocolate notes extending more substantially to the palate as well

Big wine. Had this alongside a 2015 screaming eagle flight. This held its own and then some. Dense purple fruit you could cut with a knife. Pronounced herbal flavors and hickory. Lush and intense. Drinking well now but has another decade of prime ahead

First time trying this wine, and it was singing after its hour decant. Definitely in the primary phase of its drinking window; further cellaring is not required for it to strut its stuff. Very elegant relative to the Napa cabs that followed it.

Decant 2hr. Very forward style of wine with strong perfumey of red fruit. Cassis and Smokey, yet intense. The finish is long but not layered enough. Complexity is medium. Very good value with the money.

(at Petit Louis - Baltimore) This is pretty sexy stuff. Inky ruby color is followed by a sultry nose that gushes with cherry preserves and mocha. Staining but not flabby palate has a nice balancing structure to support the turbocharged (for Bordeaux anyway) fruit and texture. A wine for a cold night, a roaring fire and your favorite other. Will drink beautifully for years. Passionate versus intellectual. (96)

This was opened and poured right away. The wine was and mid deep ruby red in colour with a nose of dark berries mixed with a bandaid smell and a noticeable alcohol smell to it. When tasting, I got a strong amount of candied cherries mixed with some pepper. The acidity level was very strong and the tannins were strong.

I don't drink much Bordeaux, but when I do I tend to think it is the best wine in the world. This is high-quality Bordeaux. Excellent aromatic and structural balance; high complexity. Ripe dark fruit, tangy raspberries, and woodsiness. Tapenade undertones. Firm tannins; good acidic energy, but plenty of fleshy weight and no sense of tartness. Everything is right here. This drinks well now, but i'm sure it will drink well (or better) 5 years from now too.

Dark inky purple colored, full-bodied, concentrated and firmly structured, yet smooth, polished and elegant with layers of dark plum blackberry and black currant fruits accented by coffee bean, mocha, and hints of oak with silky polished tannins on a tongue puckering chewy finish.
Hmm head2head with 2010 Pichon Baron (opened 3 hours before) the Clinet 2 hours before. While my scoring may match a previous reviewer, it’s almost like we tasted two different wines but got to the same result. It’s funny how different palates can be yet arrive at a similar satisfaction level. Anyway...
The Pchon slayed the Clinet and was in a whole different league than the Client- could it have been time in bottle or was the Baron that much better- I think the Baron was simply that much better. While this wine had a bit more of the darker red profile with graphite, touch of herbal, and tobacco there was a bitterness that started to show around the 2.5 hour mark and never integrated with another hour before the last glass. Grab a 2010 Pichon Baron and enjoy.

Clinet only raised to fame after the 100 pointer 1989, but I drank many vintages of this to formulate an idea. Certainly in the past they are very classic Pomerol style, but this 2010 shocked me.
Started off nose of clinical, medicinal, pharmaceutical and inky, very un-Pomerol.
Surprisingly drinkable, very rounded, creamy, sweetness was on the back palate and not tongue tip. The style was entirely modern, not a hint of classic Bordeaux. Changed a consultant like Michel Rolland?
inky red, aromatic brambly esters creme de cassis and char on the nose sweet, intense yet balanced lightly spicy merlot fruit. great midpalate and mouthcoating finish, but again, not in the least bit cloying or heavy. Delicious. This as usual, is the antithesis of California merlot. Lots of tannins here promise a long life ahead. 94++

Wow, paired with roasted lamb, the pairing was off the charts! Decanted for a little over three hours. Deep red and blue fruits, chocolate covered cherries, slight background mushroom/truffle/cigar box notes, paired with a juicy, silky smooth mouth feel and a long finish. This is a hedonistic Pomeroll that I would not hesitate to open and enjoy today or hold for a decade+ either way it willl be a treat, thats for sure! Cheers! PS. As Im finishing this note I've bumped the score by a point and it may not be enough. it was that good.
marvelous wine! We picked up the expected dark fruit notes including red plum, cherry. I wasn't sure about the mineral notes, maybe a bit of graphite. -all well integrated for sure for an excellent experience! There are still plenty of tannins, so some would want to cellar this more.

Most people at the table picked up this was a French wine, but I was reluctant because I didn’t feel the classic floral, spices and sometimes rankness smell. So I went with a middle age Napa blend with predominant Cabernet. WRONG: This wine still in his infancy but enjoyable, it’s a full body, with medium finish and lots of dark notes and tannins, good acidity as well. I presume this will only get better with time… My friend David has more of this wine so I’m praying he can find patience and invite me to drink it again in 5+ years…

Paired against the 2004 vintage, this 2010 overpowered it easily. Nice dark, sexy, crimson color that stains your entire glass deep red. An absolute abundance of red & black fruits rise from the glass. Quite voluptuous in mouth, juicy fruits, sexy, solid woody hints. And a finish which goes on for ever and ever .... solid 95+ right now.
Yes, this is a wine for the long run ... but oh so enjoyable right now !

If you are seeking a thrill ride, and Pomerol is your type of thrill, look no further. This is pure bottled decadence. The wine is silky, sexy, sensuous and concentrated. There is a beautiful purity in the fruit and a finish that could break the 50-second mark. And the wine still sells for a song for a wine at this level of quality.

The smell , the taste , the colour are all unreal .Decanted 4 hours , but even on opening it just hit you with berries . This wine is young yet so ready to drink . If this improves with more age , watch out
This bottle was drank at home without decanting. The wine was deep purple in colour and clear and it had a bouquet that was dominated by smoke and bacon. In the glass were strong flavours of dark berries, chocolate, and some vanilla. The tannins and acidity were both quite strong and this very favourable wine had a long finish.

This half bottle was drank at home without decanting. The wine was garnet red in colour and slightly cloudy. The nose on this was heavily smokey with some bacon notes to it. In the glass was a wine filled with flavours of dark berries that were a bit overripe mixed with bacon and a hint of vanilla. The acidity was mild while the tannins were pleasantly (mid level) strong. This wine showed very well tonight.

This was drank at home without decanting. The was was clear and garnet red in colour. The nose was quite crisp with a bouquet of dark berries, some red cherries and a hint of vanilla. I love when a wine gets better each time I taste it. There is so much going on here, even though it is still young, it is impossible not to be impressed. It is also difficult not to want another sniff, sip and swallow. What a beauty!

This half bottle was popped and poured at home with no decanting. Although the wine was clear, I was surprised by the violet colour which also had a tinge of brown in it. The wine itself was very good with a nose of cherries and some caramel in the mix. Those same cherries were also in the glass along with some chocolate flavours. The acidity was quite mild but the tannins were very noticeable. This was a well put together wine.

One of the things I like most about tasting wine, is finding wines that improve from barrel to bottle, and continue getting better as they age. 2010 Clinet could turn out to be a serious rock star. It's really filled out, adding depth and nuances that make this a thrill to sip. The wine is plush, opulent and velvety, with freshness, purity, complexity and most importantly, excitement that makes you want another sip. Tip of the day, if you enjoy hedonistic Pomerol, this is the wine to buy, before it's too late.

Altaya annual wine tasting (Hong Kong): A nice showing from personal favorite appellation Pomerol. The wine shows some tightness at the moment, muted nose with dark fruits, cocoa, spices and oak. But palate is a treat, ripe fruits, rich, plush mouth feel, very fine tannins, with power and gentleness, with good length. An excellent wine.

Tight at the moment, effort is required to find the aromas. You can sense the volume, purity of fruit and quality of the tannins with some work, but this is not the best time to be tasting this wine. With time, the wine could score even higher. I’m letting my bottles rest for at least 5-8 years.

This wine seems to have better balance over the top ( nearly over ripe) 2009. This one plays close to the chest. All the goods are there with impeccable balance, harmonious, long length, complexity, classy, almost understated compared to recent vintages. This wine is classic. Should have a long life in the cellar. I would leave it alone for several years and follow over the next 20 years. 97+

Deep in color, with layers of ripe, juicy, dark red berries, plums, licorice and chocolate, the wine is lush, sensuous, powerful and in balance. Silky fruits and velvet tannins give this blend of 85% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Cabernet Franc a long, rich, expansive, opulent finish.

85% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Cabernet Franc. One of the more approachable wines at the UGC. Definitely less tannic than the 2009. I liked this better than the 2001 and it was the equal of the 2005 and 2009 (although I think the 2009 has more potential). Minerally with graphite, black fruit and charcoal notes. medium to full bodied. 92-93 points.

Bar a Vin 2010 Bordeaux Tasting (Tower Club, Republic Plaza, Singapore): Pretty good, but this is another wine that split opinions and, again, I can see why some people did not like it. The fact that it was rather disjointed in its extreme youth did nothing to help its course either. This was just not ready to show I think. There was tons of oak on the nose, with toasty vanillin aromas wafting out of the glass alongside rich aromas of plums, blackberries and sweet spice. Oak aside, I though it was pretty attractive. The palate was more primary though. It came across as almost being under a shell of ripe tannins and supple acidity, with both components sticking out at slightly awkward angles. However, even if a bit disjointed at the moment, this was still quite impressive, with a good depth of mouthfilling black and red fruit under a cloaked of sweet, toasty oak and spice at the finish. I think there is good raw material for this to age very well. Look to it to come around in its 2nd decade, by which time it should actually be a very nice wine.

2010 Bordeaux UGC Chicago (The Drake Hotel, Chicago IL): Nose: There are soaring aromatics with tones of red fruits, roses, all sorts of floral tones, spices, red cherries, and fresh picked berries. Very pure with real nice depth and style to it as well.
Taste: Medium bodied with medium acidity and silky, but very noticeable, tannins. Very well balanced with a plushness to the tones of red fruits, fresh picked berries, roses, and various spice tones.
Overall: This is a gorgeous wine. It's seamless with a velvety quality on both the nose and palate. This can be a knee buckler with time on it.

Clinet owner, Ronan Laborde, used what he called a classic Pomerol blend of 85% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Cabernet Franc. At 14.6 % alcohol, than they achieved in 2009. Effective yields are also lower than in 2009. In fact, they are close to 25% less, which means there will be a lot less wine in the marketplace from this outstanding vintage. Opaque in color, explosive, floral, plum, black fruit, jammy berry, oak, chocolate and black raspberry scents create a beguiling perfume. This complex, spicy wine coats your palate with layers of pure, sweet, ripe plums. This is a hedonistic, sensuous style of Pomerol that blends intensity with pleasure and chocolate covered ripe fruit. 95-97 Pts.

Blackberry, chocolate, smoke, hints of pepper; smooth, layered, thick, textured, clinging, tannic, with a very long lingering finish, though a little simple at present; excellent structure but needs time
After Three Hours: Very similar but more intense with the chocolate notes extending more substantially to the palate as well

First time trying this wine, and it was singing after its hour decant. Definitely in the primary phase of its drinking window; further cellaring is not required for it to strut its stuff. Very elegant relative to the Napa cabs that followed it.

Most people at the table picked up this was a French wine, but I was reluctant because I didn’t feel the classic floral, spices and sometimes rankness smell. So I went with a middle age Napa blend with predominant Cabernet. WRONG: This wine still in his infancy but enjoyable, it’s a full body, with medium finish and lots of dark notes and tannins, good acidity as well. I presume this will only get better with time… My friend David has more of this wine so I’m praying he can find patience and invite me to drink it again in 5+ years…

What is not to like here ...

Tight at the moment, effort is required to find the aromas. You can sense the volume, purity of fruit and quality of the tannins with some work, but this is not the best time to be tasting this wine. With time, the wine could score even higher. I’m letting my bottles rest for at least 5-8 years.
