From 750, served with lemon tart which was a great match. This bottle was rockin’, nicely balanced sweet quince and candied orange peel with a long finish. Still seems young at 14 years with very limited tertiary development, but would guess 375s more aged at this stage. Not the greatest sweet wine I’ve had but excellent value for this Barsac. 93+

A rich and unctuous combination of honey, grilled almonds, barley sugar and spice. Drinking well, I’d would have liked a touch more acidity and a bit of botrytis to give added complexity, but that said, the wine never cloyed and offered a great amount of pleasure. CHP 90 pts

Half-bottle. Medium gold. Citrus, peach, ripe pineapple, intense orange peel, orange marmalade, intense wild honey, botrytis spice, and light ethereal notes, with lively acidity and superb length. The texture feels oily and creamy, if maybe slightly sandpapery texture still, but texturally there is a lot to like. Some VA. Great intensity! Enjoyable now, but should be even better in four or five years. Strat drinking from 2026. 92(+)

Half-bottle. Medium gold. Apricot, citrus, candied pineapple, orange marmalade, butterscotch, honey, caramel, cane sugar, spices, light smoke, and some VA, with lively acidity and very good length. Full-bodied, with a creamy texture. Still young, and I would hold for at least another five years, and ten years if you have the patience. Start drinking from 2026+. 91(+)
Deep amber by this point with no robe. Thick tears. Nose of butterscotch, nectarines, hazlenuts, and heather. Not crazy sweet and supported by good acidity. A medium finish but not as lingering as the Guiraud.

This oozed honey and barley sugar with a hint of orange flower water. Unctuous and very sweet this still retained some balancing freshness with a rather splendid lingering finish. As a mild criticism I was unable to detect much botrytis, apricot or almond nut nonetheless, a splendidly satisfying dessert tipple. 90 pts

Developing nicely and beginning to reveal its full potential. Flavours of apricot and barley sugar coated with honey were balanced with a pleasing acidity. It remained on the palate long after each sip and added a great deal of pleasure to an apple and oat crumble with crème fraiche. An absolute delight. CHP 93 points

This tasted remarkably young. Has the beautiful dried apricot and honey nose. On the palate those flavors dominate in a full rich way, but there is very nice balancing acidity as well. There is a mineral and gun metal note late in the finish that I noticed each time I had a glass.

Sunday Pot au feu at Pokai Parera (Pokai Parera, Ekatahuna, New Zealand): Less intense than the Climens 2013 of the night before, but this wine still offered a gorgeous mouthful of wine, with impeccable balance. Not a huge amount of botrytis and the texture is not as oily as some of the finest Barsacs, but it is a great value wine that matched the Tarte Tatin beautifully well.

What a nose. Can smell this all day. Honey, apricot, and botrytis characteristics. Rich in the mouth with an excellent balance of acidity and sweetness. Lingering finish makes this a really enjoyable wine. Good QPR too. Interesting to see how it develops down the line.

Love the cool white peach, pineapple youthful flavour. Thankfully no apricot (as I really don't like such flavours in Sauternes). That said, this is surprisingly low in acid – luscious which is good, but worrisome that it might not ever become complex.

Charming Sauternes in a straightforward sort of way. Honeyed notes, burnt sugar, creme brûlée, white spring flowers. Tonnes of acidity to keep it moreish and fresh. Rich palate with a medium finish. Beyond that, lacks meaningful complexity and character; not especially memorable or evocative.

From 375. Fresh tropical sweet and already good. Not every vintage has to be an odd year and these seem to be drinking so well young nowadays. Gone are the days when we had to age these. They are so pleasurable in their youth.

The 2010 Chateau Doisy Daene currently carries a rating of 91 points with the CellarTracker community and is rated a whopping 94 points by Wine Spectator. This Barsac wine immediately grabs your attention with its deep golden color...much deeper than I expected. The wine has a medium plus body, characteristic sweetness, and a little acidity. However, I did feel this wine was a bit cloying, hence my 89 rating, but this puts me off center with the prevailing sentiments in the CT community. It is worth noting that I served this wine slightly under chilled, so the warmer glass may have done more to accentuate the sugars. None-the-less, this a great wine and it is reasonably priced by comparison to its peer group. This Barsac has remained stable at about $50, while I have seen others significantly increase over time. The Chateau Doisy Daene will definitely have a repeat appearance in my cellar.

Taste: Medium bodied with medium acidity. It isn't as fresh as the better stickies, but still has nice tones of nectarines, green apples, and pear tones with a touch of apricots.
Overall: A nice and straightforward sauternes. This was more in the middle of the pack, but is still a nice sticky and should age well.

2010 UGC Bordeaux Tasting (Palace Hotel, SF): This has a very unique nose, almost meaty or funky that provides great interest, great spice; palate has great acidity, minerality, full bodied, fresh fruit that is a bit simple in the midpalate, fabulous baking spices and botrytis. 2010 UGC Bordeaux Tasting Chicago (Drake Hotel): This had a bit more tartness come through on the nose. Taste also showed that. Could see this getting higher score.

2010 Bordeaux UGC Chicago (The Drake Hotel, Chicago IL): Nose: Nice and fresh nose with tones of nectarines, green apples, grapefruit, and pears. Decent depth, but there was a slight simplicity to this.

Distinguished wine, not one of the top wines here but awesome at the price.

Wonderful character in this wine, and it's always one of my budget favorites. 91-93+

Union des Grands Crus 2010 Bordeaux Tasting (Palace Hotel - San Francisco): Very spicy on the nose showing plenty of ginger and cloves, along with ripe red apples, crushed almonds, and some floral aromas. Plenty of red apple skins on the palate, as well as some salty toffee, pears, roasted peanuts, and white flowers. The spice dominates on the nose but shows a bit more restraint on the palate. Very good
