From Magnun. Perfect now, still fruity but also very close to perfect maturity. Dried cherries, leather, long and elevated acidity, soft but evident tannin, good length.

(Decanted for one and a half hour) Deep red colour with a brick red hue. Nice warmer fruity sweetness on the maturing nose also showing some dried herbs and a touch of oak. Youthful and still a bit austere tannins combining fresh herbs and fruitiness on the alcohol warm finish. This matched tonight’s lasagna perfectly and was showing very nicely by itself afterwards. (Best 2021-2036)

Deep red colour with a brick red hue. Maturing nose showing hints of truffle and leather that quickly is washed away by the warm cherry fruit and dried herbs notes still dominating this lovely wine. Still showing some youthful austerity on the palate, but this has really opened up over the last years. Still showing lots of warm cherry fruit and some oak and with many years before the tertiary notes will take over and it will transform into what I love about an older Brunello. Best 2016-2041.

I don't think the '06 Dol D'Orcia has reached its peak yet. But the big debate - do BdM's age well? I think they do. After 3 hours finally came alive. Dark, brooding, big tannins, yielding black tea, leather, gun powder, even meat. Fruit buried deep beneath but finally started to pop at the 3 hour mark, prunes, sour cherries, dark berries. Notes of cedar with dark fruit on the nose. Complex and layered. This is bottle 3 of 5 for me, last one back in 2013. I think still will evolve for years to come.
Good wine but not their best. Some smoke, dark chocolate and dark berry on the nose. Good acidity. Tannins are still strong. Could use another few years for those to mellow. Dark berry palate but still needs to evolve.

This wine was slow-oxed for 6 hours. Initial tasting after popping the cork was thin and closed. It really came alive after about 3 hours and kept on evolving from there: Medium ruby colour, no sign of ageing yet. Full aromas of blackcurrant and cherry and some red liquorice, tobacco evolving with hints of barnyard and allspice. Quite a remarkable nose! Full bodied on the palate with mouth coating chewy-smooth tannins and some bright acidity. The finish is very long and seems to be lingering for ever. Still young and fresh, this wine has at least another 10 years of development ahead!

Decanted 2 hours. Nose and taste really just a wall of tannin and astringency when popped so really needs the air at this point. Once it breathes the wine is extremely pleasant, lovely toasty oak, coffee and dark cherries on the intense nose. On the quite savoury palate the tannins really even out with air, and there is balance and a subtle sweetness and velvety texture that is really delicious. The wine is still young and will easily last another 10 years based on its tannin and acid level at this age. Had with a steak but my wife commented it paired better with her iberico pork.

Glassy garnet color turning crimson at the rim with a thick transparent edge - somewhat unusual for a wine this young as of tasting. The nose gives off cherry, caramel, toffee, freshly-opened shoebox and a slightly damp garage. The palate is full-bodied, bold, but with a silky texture. Flavors of dark cherry, tobacco, yellow peppercorn form the core. Everything builds up beautifully with great potential, but sinks too abruptly on the second half of the mid palate, and continues its descent into an abyss of nothingness on the finish. Such a disappointment for the price, region, and vintage. Still, the overall experience is somewhat salvaged by the former half with its complexity and elegance. Drink now until 2016.

Day 1: Bright clear dark ruby reddish color with a clear watery edge. The nose is bright and intense with notes of reddish fruits, bitter herbs in the order of dandelion leaves and an earthy/mineral profile. The palate is tannic even after a 3 hour decant, relatively full-bodied, and quite consistent with what was detected on the nose especially the bitterness aspect. The middle palate is relatively blurred at the moment with the bitter and alcoholic component dominating the wine. Although this wine is still its infancy, its not what I was expecting and definitely not my style of preference.
Day 2: This wine has mellowed considerably since yesterday. Although the harsh tannins and bitter element in is still present but it is less distracting. Meanwhile the various components of the wine is starting integrate to produce a more lovely wine. I guess I opened this seven years too young. Well, that's life - you live and learn.

Drank from a half bottle, so its ageing has probably been faster than normal. Anyway it's still in good shape. It has an intense berry aroma with red cherry and raspberry. The fruit is very ripe, almost dried and is supported by sweet spices, dark chocolate and violet. I could smell also pencil lead. Some earthiness and balsam appear after a good twenty minutes of aeration. Full in the mouth, the acidity has been rounded by the ageing, but still appreciable. Tannins are soft, but a little weak at first. They improve with time though, filling the mouth with a good grip. Finish is medium long, with pencil lead and chocolate scents coming back to the nose. It needs some time to express, to show complexity. The wine is still fruit driven, but more interesting than what it seems in the first place.

Benvenuto Brunello - Toronto 2014 (Toronto, ON): I found this to be a fairly classic expression. Nose is on the more meaty, fleshy side. Notes of leather and decaying leaves put this in perhaps a more early maturing style. May not be for the long haul though still nice today. Palate is quite tannic and puckeringly tart and acidic with a distinct mineral note on the finish. Actually quite nicely done.

Musty nose with cherry and baked red fruit, wood and iron. Ripe and sweetish medium to full bodied palate with dusty tannic grip and balanced acidity. Some rubbery to smoky oak notes. Quite woody finish in fact. Astringent finish. Pretty mediocre showing. Needs cellar years badly.

Nose/palate of ripe fruit, raspberry, and earth. Started drinking after an hour of decanting, but wine showed much better on second glass after 90min. Laying the rest of my bottles down for a few more years, but has great potential.

Since it's far from maturity, just opened a half bottle for preview. As expected, it's very tight. The tannin was very dry. The nose was not so strong, with earthiness, spices, fresh herbs, fresh bell pepper in an inward style. The dark cherry taste in the mouth was very deep, solid, concentrated, intense and serious. Very classic and traditional style of Brunello di Montalcino. A little savoury. Drank 1/3 of the bottle on day 1 and corked back.
Performance on day 2 was similar. Drank another 1/3 and corked back. Its texture began to soften on day 3. Developed a blackberry tart and juice-like taste. It's not as serious as last 2 days but became more open and straight forward. Dark cherry aftertaste was still lingering.
I prefer to drink it without food and drink it very very slowly to appreciate its depth. It has a long way to be mature. Can keep it for a decade.

Enjoyed tonight at the Capital Grille Fort Worth. A good traditional Brunello as some have mentioned. Much better if allowed to sit for an hour. And I can understand why people wouldn't like this one because it's not really the belle of the ball and darker on a whole. Uncorked to a musty wine in the decanter. Checked to make sure this one wasn't corked!! The nose showed some slight age but also was smoky and dense. Smelled like the wines I enjoy out of an Italian friends' cellar when we visit him. On the pop and pour taste, you could taste the cobwebs in the back of grandma's closet. Lots of dusty, overripe fig and plum, almost moldy. After this one sat for 20 minutes before enjoying the first glass, the fruit started to show up. Medium to full bodied. This was a darker Brunello without food, showing lots of earth right off the bat with some overripe raspberry. LOTS of black cherry and smoke. The finish was dark and somewhat earthy, tannin was there, but not stiff. When enjoyed with food, the darker side of this was really attenuated. I was getting raspberry, bing cherry, but a small amount of plum stayed. Finish was more elegant. This wine went well with a variety of things, and I think it was the perfect accoutrement to a rather eclectic range of things that we had tonight. If you have this one in your cellar, I'd probably hold it, as I think it's not really drinking at its height without a huge decant. Would love to revisit this in 5 years. Done by 2020.

Brick red colour. On the nose there's a mixture of herbs like salvia, white peppar, anise and mature blackberry. The palate is medium with an intensive taste of herbs and licourice mixed with blackberrys and with a long nice finish.
Already starting to get a nice mature taste and shows an excellent development in the glass. Should develop nicely with 5-1 more years of cellaring perhaps.
Perfect with the grilled sirloin steak.

Drinking very well right now. Had it at a restaurant with food, but without a decant. I was surprised that it wasn't as young-tasting as I expected. The nose is clean and very pretty. The acidity, tannins and alcohol are all in balance. Red fruit, earth, sweet spice on the nose and on the palate. This wine is medium bodied, with a medium, finish. The wine is very rewarding right now, at least with simple foods. Drink now or over the next few years. Not a bad value at $40.oo or less, but a little steep otherwise.

Not quite sure what to expect from this bottle but I found it carring some young integrated notes still. I was hoping for something slightly more mature and integrated. It did improve over the hours in the decanter though so I would advice to hold it for a few years.

Ruby colour, not to thick. Nose is almost a bit sweet with cherries and red berries. Very dry with medium+ body and somewhat hard acidity. Tannins are also quite evident. Fruit is classic sangiovese, with some evidents of oak. This wine needs 2-3 years in the cellar to calm down, but will then be a very nice, food friendly wine. Rating today 89, with some patience 90-92. Not too pricey either!

No detailed notes but popped and poured at home on a quiet Saturday night over a lovely and leisurely Roast Chicken dinner. It delivered everything I had expected the 2001 to deliver but which hadn't a few days earlier.....a slightly earthy bouquet with soft spices and rich red cherry and ripe plum fruits. Same overall impact on the palate: juicy and not much bitterness in the finish but nicely framing tannin. Quite feminine and elegant. A pleasant surprise because I exepcted this to be way too young but I can only conclude that this producer drinks better young.

Sweet cherry, coffee, vanilla, licorice and spice. Elegant, nicely balanced, fine tannins, good concentration. Alcohol is a bit prominent. Shut down after two hours in the glass, tannins became aggressive. This wine sees more time in oak than I am used to but it doesn't seem over bearing, I suspect it will integrate with time. Still very primary, revisit in five years.

Very young wine but I had to take a peek and see what the 2006 vintage was all about. Tight on the first night but oppened after 24 hours in the fridge. Nice acidity and round tannins in this medium bodied brunello. A wine built on finesse rather than power. Spice and cherries on the nose and the palate is tight yet silky with a long finish. I think it will gain a point or two with 3-5 years in the cellar.

Bought in 2011 and kept in a kitchen (room temperature) until yesterday. Then opened and kept open for 90 minutes.
Very soft and gentle, which I liked. The taste didn't appear like a surprise, but it was nice. Particularly nice was the broadness and depth.

Took about 30 minutes to open. Raspberry color and notes. With some cherry and strawberry. Hints of soft leather and plenty of flowers. Good food-worthy acidity. 20 second finish.

The noes shows vanillin mixed with liquorice root and flowers.
The palate is austere and very filled with tannines. Not yet harmonized, needs more cellaring.

From 375ml and aired for hours. Medium nose of ripe fruit and raisin. Shows a bit of brunello funk but not excessive. Fruity and savory in the mouth with lots of fine tannins. Little complexity yet but well made.
