Have had a few of these now and our preferences kind of veered away from the style some years ago, so decided to experiment with aging the last few a bit to see if they calmed down and got a little more interesting. Previous bottle in '18 and here we are in the dumpster fire of 2020, so let's see how 10 years looks on this guy...
Pretty dense, opaque coloring still, with looks like ruby edges. Aromas of black cherry, red licorice, dried meat, some earthy funk, and maybe some darker fruits. Medium body, acid, and finish, with flavors of black cherry, lemon, orange peel, and dried spices.
All in all, I am definitely liking this the best of the bottles I've had. It's lost all the confectionery, youthful, and blowsy qualities that were detracting in its youth, though I suspect it's on the downslope and maybe a bit faded in its fruit for some.

This still needs air to come around. Started off, just like in '13, as confectionary, rubbery, and fake, with prune-y, (concord) grape-y notes on nose and palate, which initially had me thinking it was over the hill like the last few notes, but after being open for several hours (I'm at around 5 now in bottle/not decanted), it's transitioned to a much more enjoyable wine, if not particularly my favorite stylistically. I would agree with the Rhone comment, although this definitely drinks more like a GSM blend, or I could believe a tempranillo or monastrell/mourvedre from this part of the world, but I would never guess grenache here due to the darker fruit profile.
Deep ruby to garnet in color. Aromas (now that it's opened up) of dark fruits (blue, blue, purple), graphite, and tobacco. Medium body, acid, and finish, with a similar flavor profile. I dunno, maybe this could go a little longer, but I'm thinking I'll probably just decant the next (/my last) one and drink it in the next year or 2.

I think this one is past its prime. Pruny with a somewhat bitter cough-syrup taste at this point. Some who enjoy the olive and gamey notes of some Rhone wines might still be a fan of this, but the fruit is gone (at least with the bottle I had tonight). Would like to have tried this one earlier.

I might have waited waaaay too long to drink this wine. I first tasted it years ago and I remember it being very good, though I didn't take notes then. I remember it being fruity and bold. I remember rating it in the 90s back then. Tonight, it's still tannic, but unfortunately the fruit is gone. They say magnums fare better than regular bottles. I have a magnum in my cellar. It will be a great experiment when I taste it.
Update April 23. I opened one of the magnums and it has much life left in it. It's fruity, tannic and very well balanced at this stage. I would rate it 92. I'm glad I have 2 more magnums. I also have some 2011 and 2012 bottles. Tasting them is going to be fun!

I thought - based on other comments here - that this wine may be past its prime. Initial nose was hot and a bit petrol like. Decanted and drank over a four hour period. I don't recall a wine that improved so dramatically with contact with air. If you have a bottle, don't fret, just decant and wait a couple hours, and you have a big, beautiful wine.
On The first night it was all plum jam, strawberry and cherry. Sweet and smooth, medium body. By the second night, under a vacuum pump, it was rhubarb, olive and prune. Higher acidity and slightly oxidised. The score represents an average of the two nights.

From magnum. Color is dark. The palate is sweet and waxy. Very uninteresting, one note wine. For the money its a solid buy. Would, and should, drink sooner.

Drinking wonderfully right now. No need to decant. Probably doesn't have many years left. Nicely balanced. Dark fruit with some earthiness. Not oaky or artificial. Outstanding QPR.

Been open for 4 hours or so, no decant. Nice ruby color. The nose is showing off some dark fruit and leather, a little dirt and lighter strawberry notes too. In the mouth, there's plenty of fruit, nice mouthfeel, good balance, medium finish. Pleasant all around.

Funky aromas at first. Woody and stalky. Leather. Maybe some vanilla. Not a great deal of the pure ripe fruit that was in previous bottles. Although with a damn good swirl and perhaps more patience than I was prepared to give it, sweet black fruits start to appear. The fruit is significantly more dominant on the palate. Very chunky and sweet tannins, but finishes very dry with cola flavors. Very heady and h-h-h-h-hot. Two glasses in, and I'm feeling pretty tipsy. Perhaps a bit overdone. Drink now, right now.

There's complex and then there's all-over-the-place, there's luscious and then there's syrupy, and this forced, overdone Garnacha is the latter of both; full and rich, and nicely fragrant, with a ton of vanilla and oak, along with dark fruit, leather, winter spice, and, later, bretty earthiness, but lacking finesse and unity; very dry on the finish, but at times it's like drinking a gooey raspberry candy despite the presence of interesting possibilities, the whole less than the sum of its parts.

A touch floral, but mainly black cherry cola, spice, & a smidge of vanilla. Fairly high acidity. Didn't get the herbal qualities I got last time, and it just tasted a bit more harsh / less complex. Espelt Garnacha, for the same price, is the far better play here. 84 pts.

Day one: p & p. Vanilla and smoke notes over typical Garnacha profile. A little grapey and raw on opening but settled into a nicely balanced food wine. Vacuvinned the remaining half. Day two: improved, by being richer and fuller. Just a bit of sediment. An excellent QPR at the 12$ I paid a couple of years ago.

Notes of red licorice, heat, and medicinal scents on the nose. Darker color than expected for Garnacha but then a bit light on the palate. Dark fruit, bit of smoke, and fine tannins. Good QPR but missing complexity and "wow" factor.

Deep red hue color, red fruit nose with spice. On the palate the wine feels fruit forward without being fruity, there is an earthiness that combined with the dry fruits makes this absolutely enjoyable. Medium body and smooth tannins, this pairs well with any roast or game.

I thought this was surprisingly good -- surprising because it tastes like a wine of much higher cost. The wine write-up at Tapas Adela suggested this is the Spanish CdP. I did taste the pepper and the Grenache notes are strong and consistent with the grape. Very enjoyable.

A beautiful wine; smooth, concentrated and complex. You will find cherry, tobacco, coffee, cedar and more on the nose and pallet. There is a long hot finish of pepper and anise. The soft tannins will leave your mouth dry for minutes. This was a delight with Christmas prime rib. I have two 1.5's left. Wish I had more.

Popped and poured. Dark red edging to purple, room-filling bouquet of fruit and spice, blackberries and plum and oak on the palate, with a bit of leather and smoked meat, just singing right now with a long finish. Pure thoughtless pleasure. Perfect with estofat de bou, the Catalan braise, with its smoked paprika and cinnamon spicing.

well rounded and full, no sharp edges and the spice now is taking a back seat to the fruit and vanilla. Pairs well with chicken mole and was well received by all.

91 Points. Served at 58-62 degrees and serially tasted over two and a half hours with no decanting prior.
At first pour, there are simple elements of dark red fruits and pepper spices on the nose. On the palate, ripe raspberries, black cherries followed by an expanse of spice characteristics that flood the palate: white and black pepper, exotic spice box and sandalwood. It doesn't have a very elegant or composed disposition early on and there's not much depth here on the mid-palate despite the ripe, well-formed fruit notes.
However, over time the wine gained a great deal of depth with air and it showed it's true composition. Candied violets blossomed on the nose and palate along with characteristics of chaparral/dry brush and wild sage. Notes of Black Raspberries came forward with greater concentration and carried the wine well into the mid-palate where tiers of spices laid set against a backdrop of chaparral. The back-palate began to gain some firmness as well with just a pinch of tannin that helped give the wine some greater form on the palate. There's plenty of acidity here to bring freshness to the fruit and a lively mid-palate that accentuates the complex spice character.
If it weren't for the chaparral and exotic wood spice notes that existed on the palate in lieu of garrigue it would have been a dead-ringer for Southern Rhone. I found the dry brush / sage element to be a bit beguiling and even a bit feminine, reminiscent of the California mountains after summer and autumn rains. There's a real sense of terroir here despite it invoking a place thousands of miles away.
Overall, I was really impressed (and surprised) by this wine. An excellent representation of Spanish Grenache and killer QPR as well. Recommended decant of 30-45 minutes and absolutely critical to serve this at the appropriate temperature. My belief is that this wine is at or near its peak. If stored properly it should hold there for 2-3+ years before it sets into a steady decline.

Popped and poured with grilled filet mignon. Aroma is blackberry and cedar. Taste has tobacco and blackberry, with a decent level of acidity. Despite the clearly dark fruit here, it is actually fairly light on the palate and in no terms jammy.

Solid black cherry and blackberry nose. Fruit forward, but also a fair bit of baking spice coming through in the background. This has good Grenache character, but wood is a bit heavy, though certainly not oppressive, and there is great balance between the acid, tannin and fruit components. I could see this wine getting better over the next few years, developing a bit more complexity and smoothing out the woodwork. It has what it takes to do it. As many have said before, GREAT QPR.

Deep magenta. Blueberry, mushroom, and meat nose. Medium bodied, raspberries, tart cherries, pepper, soft tannins, a bit of soy, and a short to medium finish. Heavier than I expected for a Spanish garnacha, more like a syrah. Interesting.

Good wine with intense flavor and nice nose. However it tastes a bit hot to me. This wine is always high in alcohol. I agree that with a prior comment that the total effect is a wine with good flavor but a thin or light mouth feel. Would drink again.

at first, i found this to be somewhat over the top for my tastes, with that sweet oakness and loads of fruit. but i drank it over about 5 days, which is rather unusual for me, and I found that after a few days, it mellowed out and the flavors became, for me, more balanced. it is definitely a great bargain.

Absurdly underpriced wine. If I had the disposable income, I'd pick up a case of this in a heartbeat. At $13, it has the concentration, complexity, and even age-ability of some $30 wines. Enormous fruit, sturdy tannic backbone, plenty of oak (which mellows significantly after a day), and zippy acidity to bring it all together, this is a truly fantastic value.
On a side note, it drinks more like a syrah than a grenache, but I'm definitely not complaining.

This bottle needed a bit of air to come around, as it was very confectionary and fake on the pop. I have enjoyed previous vintages of this, so thought I'd better give it some time and I'm glad I did. Nose transitioned to dark fruit, mineral, leather, oak, and a slight touch of heat. Big blackberry and black raspberry fruit on the palate, with mineral and slight alcohol coming through on the back end, medium+ body, and a fairly long finish. I think this could use a little time in bottle to come together, but the potential is good.

WWC (Women's Wine Club) Grenache Tasting (Olivia's apartment): Poured by Joanne. Lots of spicy fruit on the nose and palette. Fruit forward, with lots of blackberries plus some raspberries. This might show a little better with 6-12 months more of bottle age. She said retail $18 in Manhattan. Big vibrant Grenache nose, full-on and fruity with aromas of ripe raspberry and blueberry. Like the nose, the palate is bright and ripe, but nicely balanced with fine dry tannins on the finish. Drank @ Cafe Babareeba - $44* menu price. We both loved it and were happy to see it sub-$15 online.
Grenache is a rare visit for me, but I enjoy it each time I do. This must be paired with food. Stands up to richness with a bit of spicy character. Very juicy; seemingly more French than Spanish.
I like it sub-$15 and is an approachable heavy food wine.

I used to love this wine and was interested to check in again. I think it's great for this style (14.5 alcohol and lots of fruit). It's well made and blows away a lot of wines in this style that sell for 2x - 4x as much.

Smokey, meaty nose. Thick and dark with lush, ripe fruit almost to the point of seeming sweet. Strong charred oak leading to carmel notes and shows a bit of spice. Although generally not a style of wine that I prefer, it's a high quality and good value given the price point.
An Eclectic Romp through Spain (SF Wine Trading Company): Now this was a different animal altogether. Thick and dark. Ripe fruit with toasty oak. Modern, woody, balsam wood base, rich, frankly sweet and syrupy. You might as well put Coke in a wine bottle-simple, tricked out, and spineless.

I should like this wine but it didn't do anything for me. Spicy, some complexity, ok nose but no mouth feel and tasted thin. It is high in alcohol which may account for some of the above. I will definitely try this vintage again as I have had this wine in other vintages many times in the past.

Despite reviews to the contrary I don't like this vintage as much as the previous one. The wine seems over- extracted to me, so that typical grenache flavors disappear behind an onslaught of plum and smoke. It's sort of a grenache version of a big australian shiraz. Not bad at all, but not what I'm looking for.

Better than the '09 showing little alcohol. Fruit forward with dark fruit, rather monolithic, but balanced enough.

Sweet first tasted, but also oakey. The venturi took some of the oak away. I liked it but I'm not sure if I would buy it again.

Tasted non blind at a retail tasting.
Dark garnet color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of perfume, berries, a hint of roasted meat and some notes of plums. Flavors of berries, cherries and boysenberries. Medium to bright acidity, medium tannin, medium to full bodied. Drink over the next 2-4 years.

Very deep burgundy with legs a sprinter would be jealous of. Vibrant nose with cherry, spice, vanilla, oak, plum and some earthiness. All these were on palette which has a lot going on for an inexpensive wine. A little tartness on the finish but very smooth.

This might show a little better with 6-12 months more of bottle age. She said retail $18 in Manhattan.
I saw it on-line for $11-12 (Gary's, Wine Legend, Wine Library & PJs in Upper Manhattan: very good QPR at that price).

Big vibrant Grenache nose, full-on and fruity with aromas of ripe raspberry and blueberry. Like the nose, the palate is bright and ripe, but nicely balanced with fine dry tannins on the finish. The 14.5% alcohol is hidden well and the finish long and complex with vanilla sweet fruit, menthol and a slight meatiness. Excellent value.
