Showing surprisingly young and fresh; it will easily go another decade or more. A subtle sweetness finds itself well-balanced between lively acidity and fresh fruit.

[1st of 12 bottles] Wonderful aged JJ Prum, med golden orange color. Honey ladened stone fruit, ripe apricot, and orchard fruit with not too much sugar on the long long finish. Acid is still vibrant and the tertiary notes are developing nicely. Definitely in its drinking window, but there is no rush to drink it.
Compared to the 2002 JJ Prum Wehlener Sonnenuhr Spatlese and the 2002 JJ Prum Graacher Himmelreich Spatlese, I would put this right under the Wehlener Sonnenuhr Spatlese, although it was very close. 93-94 pts

Joh. Jos. Prum Graacher Himmelreich auslese 2004. Very nice and definite german sweet wine. This was typical reisling with nice mid-intensity fruit with citrus notes but that seemed to drop away in the mouth. Almost like it was there then gone, coupled with a (very) slight lack of freshness. Well balanced and drinkable. Drank over 3 nights-similar each night (stored after vac-u-vin). Not convinced it would benefit from more aging (at least this particular bottle).

Seems like a 16 year old wine shouldn't be too young, but have to agree with other reviews - this wine has years to go before it hits its sweet spot. That said, it's in an entirely pleasant place now, but substantially less than it will ultimately be. Slippery pale gold, reticent nose, rather straightforward green apple and slate flavors. Beautiful balance of fruit and acidity. Gulpable.

So lovely with florals, petrol, honeyed apricots, and unctuous mouthfeel. Long, long clean finish. Loved it now, perhaps too early, guess I should be more patient for the next ones based on other notes.

Asperg Wine Syndrome Tasting Group: Pre-Easter tasting (Private Location): A very young, lean reductive nose (high on the Sulfur, typical Prüm). Citrus, fresh white sliced pear and the typical slate notes. On the palate also very airy (more Spätlese than Auslese in style), elegant and precise but still so unbelievable young. Give it 15, better 20 more years.

Asperg Wine Syndrome Tasting Group: Pre-Easter tasting (@Private location): Tasted blind. Clear, pale lemon color, very youthful. Clean, medium- intense, almost shy nose, quite reductive and with some Sulphur. Citrus notes, slate. Very fine and elegant. On the palate medium-sweet, medium+ acidity, perfectly integrated. Only 7,5% abv. Very elegant on the palate with some fine exotic and citrus fruit and a fine core of slate. Deep, with lots of extract, good balance, very juicy, precise and clear. Long and lingering finish. This wine is still too young. Its high degree SO2 will prepare it for a long future 😊 Give it 10 more years to fully shine. 92++

Consumed over two days. Fresh, youthful nose of green apple, peach, honey, slate. High acid on the palate, hiding the residual sugar, leaving a cheek-tingling finish. Unfortunately the palate is lacking body and concentration which is disappointing.

Yellow greenish, slightly spritzy. Apple and herb. Light, delicate, off dry, really more at Kabinett level in current terms. Wonderful apple jelly, lime, and stone. Just delicious now, but not much secondary development yet.

AP 03 06. Late-bottled release and unfortunately I couldn't track down the regular bottling for comparison. But side by side with the Wehlener Sonnenuhr offering of the same pradikat, this was somewhat richer and more direct. A beautiful sourness pervaded the flavors and gave impression of very ripe tangerines. Oddly enough, this same clementine flavor is strikingly similar to the 2005 Prum G-H Auslese, although these two vintages were polar opposites. Spectacular pairing with orange glazed chicken. Aging beautifully, I can't wait to try this again in a few years! 93p

Oh, boy! Full nose of lemony rubber - deep, solid, clean. Initial impression of texture that of hollow sphere of creamy coconut milk, sweet lemon flesh. Gradually less spherical, more a full mouth of wine - sweet lemon flesh, white peach, cocoanut, dark gritty minerals, subtle pulses of rubber. Terrific acid and body (esp for7.5 alc), with no thickness, and all the elements putting on a great show. Terrific.

AP 03-06 - what a beautiful wine. Petrol, white fruits, and flowers on the nose leading into a bright palate of crisp green apple and quiet citrus fruit. A touch of spritz when opened. The richness is in check by the airy lightness of the frame and balances out the sneaky acids, which grew stronger on day two. Late in the bottle I could detect a hint of buttered pastry on the outset of the finish.
Excellent - drink or hold

Chicagoer Rieslingfeier (Chicago, IL): Missed the AP on this one too (I'm getting sloppy). There's a lot of spritz on this bottle, but the reduction wasn't as prominent as on the 2004 WS Spätlese that I had two days ago. White fruited, this is quite restrained and demure at the moment, it seems to be coiled very tightly at the moment. It's still got some crazy acids and just the right amount of sweetness for balance. At the end of the day, there's definitely a lot of good material, but I'd give this some time.
J.J. Prum wines are world famous for the ability to age and improve. This 12 year wine shows the first stage of development toward a smoother, more integrated, and openly delicious taste. The color is a light transparent yellow. The strongest fruit flavor is Yellow Delicious apple rather than the tart Granny Smith, with subtle whiffs of the dried fruit mix used to make fruit cake, including hints of pineapple, orange, and apricot. The sip is both soft and juicy, more on the apple than the citrus side. Although the wine is a late harvest Auslese with considerable residual sugar, it never veers into nor depends on sugary sweetness. Overall, an amazing wine that manages to be gentle yet complex, harmonious, and savory.

This wine showed quite well last night. Light golden color. Nose of ripe peach, baked apple, honey, petrol and lots of wet stone/slate aromas. Similar flavors on the palate with a mix of apple, stone fruit and wet rock. Medium+ to high acid with loads of minerality. Moderately sweet but plenty of acid to cut through. Long finish. Really enjoyed this.
Party on Little Green Lake; 7/9/2015-7/12/2015 (Little Green Lake, WI): Light-medium golden color. PNP, drank 2 glasses over 2 hours. Killer bottle, best of the Riesling grouping. I thought this was really well defined and not overtly sweet. It had a lovely honeyed texture with a nice mix of fruit pineapple, nectarine, apple, white peach, with some spiciness and a bit of fusil showing. Very long.

The Prüm Dinner (Chicago, IL): #14-05, 7.5% abv. Lots of restraint and acidity on this bottle, definitely showing its classical roots. This was alternately spicy and funky, but it's definitely the acidity and gentle sweetness that holds everything together. Drinking very well now, I think that the 2004s in general are now entering their second drinking window.

Drank 2 bottles of this. Both corks were moldy and beat up on the top, but wine tasted fine. I liked this riesling (and I am not a regular riesling drinker), but it was sweeter than I expected. Still had a nice pear, green apple flavors to it and overall pretty tasty.

JJ Prum - 2012 Range (Sydney, Australia): A brief interlude from the 2012s, from the 2004 vintage that is described by the estate as having a similar feel. A note of kerosene is just starting to emerge, followed by orange peel, spices, slate and minerals. The development on the nose isn't as evident on the bright and still youthful palate which is nonetheless starting to sing. Detailed and beautifully composed, this is a wine that has all the elements to develop over the next 15 years. If this is the direction the 2012s are headed then I need to make sure I have some 2012s put away.

Pale gold. A complex nose of lemon drops, green apple, passionfruit, pineapple, slate, funky ripe cheese and sulphur; all resting in an old kerosene drum. Medium weight on the palate, which is moderately sweet and nicely balanced by its acidic spine. Not sure if it's reflective of the wine in general, but this bottle could perhaps do with a touch more freshness. There's a hint of spritz on entry but otherwise has a silky texture. Medium length finish.

Light gold in colour. A touch of sulphur on the nose which lingered and added complexity to the bouquet which opened with more floral elements. Soft on the palate, some sweet fruit a little zing of acidity. Fades a little towards the back of the palate but then seems to gain intensity and builds on the finish which goes on and on. Well balanced and has a bit of a wow factor on the finish.

Friday night at Fabio's with the NY/NJ Crew (Fabio's NYC): Funk nose mixing notes of sulfur and petrol with stone fruit and citrus. Not nearly as sweet on the palate as I would have expected. Light body, high acid and a medium length finish.

Different impression than my previous bottle. This time the wine was popped and left to breathe for around 3 hours before consuming. The wine showed more sulphur and funk on the nose this time around and less sweetness on the palate. The acid still showed the same though and it was ripping with lots of mineral and stone fruit and some petrol notes. Will save my remaining bottle for a few more years before revisiting.

Fairly sweet, but not especially so for an Auslese. Layers of peach, apple, and a bit of citrus. Starting to show some age, with a bit of a caramel apple quality, but not really exhibiting much of that aged Riesling petrol yet. Probably still has many years ahead of it.

Pale yellow color. A good amount of sulfur on the nose that gradually lessened as the wine remained open along with some honeysuckle and a touch of petrol. Tons of green apple, honey and stone/slate flavors on the palate with stinging acidity. The acid on the wine is intense. Sweet and mouth coating with a long finish, this wine needs a lot more time to shed some fat and develop some more complexities. When it does, it could be special.

Very pale yellow in color. Smell of steely mineral and oil with a bit of a sweet tart layer. The palate brings a nice green apple component, medium acidity and a medium finish. I was expecting a little more of a fresh palate but this is still a well made Riesling. 8.0% EtOH.

Enjoyed this beauty with some great Thai food. An amazing combination of bright and tingling acidity to match the full bodied texture leaving your with a mouth coating wine that is clean and elegant. A deceptive wine at this point as it is quite understated and appears light at first taste. There are some powerful yet delicate intensity here that baud well for a good future. Serious acidity yet i had the feeling that this bottle did not have the same levels of structure I tasted in the 2005

Sulfur *and* petrol on the nose, with the petrol continuing through the rest of the drinking experience. The nose bounds from the glass, and the length is very extended, full of ight citrus and that petrol. The mouth is very well balanced, sweet and acidic, with light orange tropical fruit and yellow and orange citrus - and citrus rind especially. Slightly spritzy, I think, but not distracting. A nice after dinner drink. Much promise.

Very pale straw colour. Obvious sulpher component on the nose a little unsettling. But beyond that there was also lemon, peach and honey. Found it to be light on the palate with some mineral, peach, pineapple, lemon, floral and honey. High acid, clean and crisp. As it was I would still score this bottle 89 but I won’t score it officially as I wonder if this bottle was flawed somehow. Hopefully next bottle will reveal all.

Date Night - Alban, Jos Jos Prum, etc: Shy but complex nose featuring green apple, apricot, crushed white flowers and petrolly essence. Gentle on the palate. The apple is prominent, but great finish of watermelon. A really enjoyable white, and a very interesting pair with both the blue and pecorino cheeses. I always love this producer's wines, and this one did not disappoint.

I really liked this. Decanted for 7 hours beforehand. Color is medium gold. Nose shows sweet lime, white peach, wet concrete, spices, and minerals. On the palate, chewy apple/lime flavors combine with mineral, slate, and good acidity. The wine is full-bodied, dense, and very well-balanced. Should be a show stopper in 10 years, and last for 30+.

This bottle was not meant to be opened, but some unknown guest at a party (non-winos) wandered into my cellar and opened it. I managed to get a pour before the crowd chugged it down. There was a slight funk on the nose that I could not identify. I have no idea if it was present on opening, but it was in my glass. A little swirl took care of that, and this screamed peaches, peaches and more peaches. Nice acidity and mouthfeel. Long sweet finish. Need to replace this bottle (and purchase a few additional).

Superbe vin qui n'a pas encore atteint son apogée. Complexe et pas lourd.

CWM dinner at Thai Cuisine. This really changed dramatically from opening to final sips at the end of dinner. Still screams peaches with citrus and floral notes. Well balanced with long finish that cut through the spicy basil chicken dish.

Somewhat less sweet than a typical Auslese. Peach and citrus flavors, with some mineral notes. Fairly well balanced with acidity.

Pale straw color; nose of stone fruits with lime, stone/rockiness, and starting to show some petrol; much of the same on the palate, with mouth coating sweetness offset beautifully by minerality. Prum never disappoints!

Cork was showing full seepage, with a bit of mold, but wine was fine. Moderate sweetwness, with peach and citrus notes and good acidity. Just like previous bottle.

Beautiful nose and palate with apricots, white peaches, honey, minerals and pinneapple. This wine is just fun to drink and is not the most complex Prum I have tasted but is drinking really well. Drink now or cellar for five/ten years.

VERY GOOD
Very pale yellow in color.

Wonderful purity throughout with a nose of sweet petrol, white flowers and stone fruits. The palate was full of bright red apples and wonderful minerality. Great, as always.

Nose is rather modest, with slate, peach, some pear, yellow flowers. The palate is bigger, giving apple, peach, slate, lemon peel, and honey. Medium bodied and rich with sweetness and a vibrant acidity that carries a rather long finish. 91-92+

No real formal notes just observations over the two days, it is Medium-Dry, Citrus, Green Apple/Green Tropical. some notes of petrol. Did not find it overly complex, Day 2 was better but nothing to blow me away with

WineFanatic Riesling Offline (Vancouver, BC): Tasted blind - a few bubbles in the glass. Lighter straw colour with a greenish hue throughout. Notes of lemon and lime dominate both the nose and palate. Some sweetness kicks in the lengthy finish. Lighter in body and fruit than the previous wine. Has a bit of spritz on the palate. Another one that’s drinking well but should improve with time. Excellent. 91+

A deceptive wine at this point as it is quite understated and appears light at first taste. There are some powerful yet delicate intensity here that baud well for a good future. Serious acidity yet i had the feeling that this bottle did not have the same levels of structure I tasted in the 2005

Pop and pour, which I think contributed to the muted nose. In the mouth this is full of nervous citrus character, with slate and a delightful sweetness. Beautiful Auslese.
