Emirates 1st- average year, great wine. Elegant, concentrated, seamless, perfectly balanced but still with an incredibly long finish. What good burgundy is all about. Right in its drinking window. Absolutely delicious….

Nose: licorice, gasoline, black fruits, mint, tar Notes: Tasted blind and was told by the owner that she double decanted this wine 2 hours prior to drinking. Very full bodied and still quite tannic with the kind of tar and gasoline notes that I'm typically not a big fan of. Black fruits started to pop up in the 3rd hour but even so I did not think this was overly interesting. Plenty more time is needed for this wine to be in the right drinking window so this should go into the cellar for at least another 7-8 years. Drink: 2032+ Rating: 89

Double decanted before serving. Incredible aromatics with flowers, red fruit, stems, violets, and perfume. On the palate, it was dense with good purity and transparency. Possibly one of the wine of the vintage. It is one of the very few 2011 that has aging potential. 94+

Pinot Noir - NZ & Burgundy (Newmarket, Auckland): medium red, perfumed, well integrated palate, rich and appealing, combined with ripe red cherry, plum, spices, mushroom, and earth. some salty savoury underlying, still fresh acidity, fine chalky tannins, elegant and long finish. very good on balance, intensity and complexity. gorgeous!

[PWS' Clos de Tart Supper at Bellota Restaurant, Melbourne] Translucent light-medium to medium crimson-purple. Floral red & black cherry bouquet with hints of mineral, earth, violet & rose, strawberry & raspberry, spice box & cedary oak. Medium plus, quite intense & deep, moderately concentrated, ample, broad red & black fruit flavors, well-interlaced with plenty of mouth-coating tannins, traces of chalky extracts & medium fine balancing acidity; mid palate became a tad lean & dry with time in glass; very well-structured though not quite as well-endowed with fruit. Long lean, sinewy finish.

Sydney Burgundy Celebration: Iconic Wineries (Blind): One of the hardest wines to get a good read on in this flight. At first the nose is closed down but it did start to show some stalks, violets and a fair bit of earth. The red fruits on the palate did have more presence along with good length and acidity. I'm not loving this right now and would want to see it with a serious amount more time in the bottle. I was not surprised when its identity was revealed as I tried it one year ago and it was rather introverted, with this bottle probably showing even more so.

Burgundy Tasting (Ivy, George Street, Sydney): Red cherry and berry that is quite concentrated, stalks, cream, new oak…wet, slightly bitter spice, muted, lacks fruit, flour textured tannin. Massively disappointing.

La Paulée de New York Grand Tasting (Metropolitan Pavilion - New York NY): Light red fruit on the nose - restrained, austere. Green on the palate - some fruit and spice, earth. Red cherry and stone finish. Probably will improve, but no where near enough to justify the price tag. Avoid the 11 Red Burgs. Nose - 4.5/6, Palate - 4.5+/6, Finish - 4.5+/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1/2 = 14.5+/20 (with 15.5/20 potential.)

La Paulée de New York Grand Tasting (Metropolitan Pavilion - New York NY): Tasting, brief note. 50% whole cluster. Floral start with spice and red berries. Flavors were slightly less appealing to me, with more structure than ripe fruit and firm tannins for the level of concentration. I guess this was one of the more controversial wines at the tasting, with several people telling me they thought it showcased the green character of many 2011s, but I really can't completely agree with that.

A bit shy on the nose, tight, delicate and subtle. There are hints of spices, ripe red fruit, plummy, floral. On the palate firm and grippy, powerful tannins, very pure fruit, mineral, spicy, but just very very young. Impressive finish, 91-92+(+)

Sydney Burgundy Celebration (Sydney, Australia): Stemmy, graphite, violets and spice. Clean red fruit drives the palate, the fruit doesn't have much depth to it but there is no hurry for it to develop. Needs serious time.

Had this again. Consistent. So much beautiful ripeness with perfect acidity and a little umami. Spice. Really well done in this vintage.

hard to believe this is a 2011 vintage. The Domaine did a great job here selecting very strong fruits with perfect ripeness.

Very young, closed at first. Opened up after ca 1h of decanting. Beautiful red fruit, good density. They managed this light vintage well.
