I'm not necessarily in the Fourrier camp of extreme ripeness but I must say that this was a delicious bottle of Burgundy. Very ripe exotic cherry fruit is balanced by succulent acidity and lots of brightness. The finish is juicy and intense with notes of cherry spice and sparkling minerals. I see no purpose in aging this further as it's showing its undergarments completely and unabashedly. At Zachys BYOB La Paulee.

Slightly more subdued aromatics compared to the 2011, but recognisable as the same wine. Tighter and more structured on the palate. Red fruits on the palate. Darker fruits compared to the brightness of the 2011. Shows a slightly saline character.

From a 0.89ha plot planted in 1910. This 2012 Fourrier Clos Saint Jacques is one of the best Fourrier CSJ I have had. Attractive bouquet of Incredibly perfumed and silky. Ultra-ethereal with a flirtatious bouquet of polished red cherries, raspberries, rose petals and sweet earthy spices. High intensity yet tannins are silky soft, gorgeous. Tasted blind and guessed Rousseau Clos Saint Jacques 2009. (95/100)

Bastille Day Celebration with Lots of Champagne Rosé (Park Ridge Country Club): Small glass, brief note. Lush and extremely generous, this has a broad array of black and red cherry throughout with a meaty, spicy support team. Everything is well balanced now, this will easily drink well for another decade+ as it further evolves.

Special wine. Light clear ruby, slow opening aromas of clove, allspice, cherry, baking powder, lead to a firm perfectly balanced long mouthful of flavors. Young.

Some wines are just oh so delicious and this is one. Why is this so good already? Not sure but not complaining. Nice red fruit with the start of oven roasted beef flavors with a side of au jus. Need to find more...

Another wine I wish I had more time with; so elegant and fine-boned while not sacrificing its Gevrey personality - a bit dark, a touch of brash spice. Glides across the palate. Absolutely love the style. Still young (though undeniably attractive), it will be fun to watch this age.

Great young wine. Decanted two hours, followed over the next three. Interesting, but not great on the nose. Some dark fruit, herbs, spice. Fascinating palate. Spice, a bit of tar, loam notes, herbs and savory/mineral notes combined with good dark fruit and outstanding balance. `Unusual to have such a varied palate with the nose lagging just a bit. Very clean on a long finish. Outstanding wine, love to revisit in ten years, wish I had more.

Gorgeous aromas waft out of the glass immediately. Spice galore with such pure and vibrant fruit, well balanced acidity, and "clean" earth (no where near the barn...). Undulating layers and a certain brightness to the wine that was so fresh. And then some more spicy goodness. This isn't a powerhouse and it's young for sure, but flat out delicious. Almost identical on day two. Will love to try this with some serious age on it.

Some Wines from a Swing Through France-Paris, Chablis, and Champagne; 4/1/2016-4/9/2016: Light ruby. Difficult to restrain, exuberant, alive aromas of red berry and blue fruit, spice, mint, and rising earth. Medium to lighter weight, gorgeous purity of fruit and excellent acidity. Wonderfully complete for its relatively light weight. Some tannins appear late, so it is not as ready as it initially seems. That being said, who would not drink this elixir now if given the chance??

VERTICALE CSJ FOURRIER VS. ROUSSEAU: Naso esplosivo, generoso e primaverile. Stupendo

Lunch with 2012 and 2013 Fourrier CSJ and Griotte, 95 Raveneau Blanchot, 05 Leflaive Chevalier and more (Black Salt, Washington DC): Served single blind alongside the 2013. While 2012 was a bit more reticent on the nose, the palate offered a lot more pleasure. This a racy and hedonistic wine still showing dense layers of glossy red fruit balanced by minerality and well balanced acids. The wine has not yet shut down and is very enjoyable. I wouldn't feel guilty at all about drinking these young until they shut down and the juice is definitely worth the squeeze so to speak.

La Paulée de New York Grand Tasting (Metropolitan Pavilion - New York NY): Wow! Nose of bright red berry fruit - raspberry, strawberry, juicy citrus. This is perfumed without weight. Wonderful minerality, very alive and complex. Spice. Superb on the palate with sappy fruit, red-blue, iron, minerals, spice. Grippy good acid. This is 100% Grand Cru quality and probably the best red wine I had today. Nose - 5.5/6, Palate - 5.5/6, Finish - 5-5.5+/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1.5/2 = 17.5-18+/20 (with 18.5/20 potential.)

La Paulée de New York Grand Tasting (Metropolitan Pavilion - New York NY): Tasting, brief note. Another very special vintage for Fourrier's CSJ, this showcases dense fruit, great spice and structure in excellent balance with everything else in glass. Perhaps less power and density vs some of the better recent vintages for this, including 2009 or 2010.

2015 La Paulée Grand Tasting (Metropolitan Pavilion, New York): Ripe, sweet cherries and strawberries with a tangy finish. So long and sappy in the mouth, a touch of soil, perfectly ripe tannins. Complete, beautifully balanced. In a word, fantastic.

Good on the nose. More giving than the Goulots but fairly shy. Didn’t open much in the glass. Will be good but give it at least a decade.
