Original release. Just missing some acidity especially serving next to young Champagnes; not particularly rich or oily or with much Leflaive sesame notes. Light. Unfortunately not a knockout vintage for Pucelles. 91

THIS is why we do it! Two for two with this one, last bottle in 2014 was a winner as well. This one is even kicking it up another notch. Rich wine here, with tons of well integrated wood spice and sulphur match strike reduction...golden yellow pitted fruits, green apple sautéed in butter, nice lemon citrus streak. Creamy with exotic honey and creme brûlée custard...layered, yet energized with the fresh acidity and crushed rocks ...white flower and honeysuckle, as well as that beautiful spice, intoxicate. Finish is long and persistent...couldn't ask for anything more from this wonderful bottle!

2001 DOMAINE LEFALIVE LES PUCELLES PULIGNY-MONTRACHET- this 1er Cru vineyard that puts out consistent Grand Cru quality fruit shined ever so brightly; along with nice acidity, it had rich, spicy honeysuckle and mineral laden notes delivered in a viscous texture that carried all of the treasures to the back end.

Rich and dark yet fresh, showing nutty, ripe pear, kiwi, floral undergrowth. whole butter. On the palate, there were silky textures with ripe stone fruits, hints of spice, and sweet grapefruit. Long spiced pear filled the senses.

Duration: 2 Hours Food: Northern Chinese Condition: perfect Aroma: white flowers, vanilla, cream Note: the nose was incredible right out of the bottle, we started drinking it after breathing for 30-40 mins, nose was floral and creamy and palate was great. I think this bottle has just stepped into its drinking window, I think there are many more years to enjoy this bottle but I personally would think that the prime time would be from now till 2018.

Dinner at Trelio (Clovis Ca.): Wow this is rich! Lot of smoke and caramel reduction, ripe yellow fruits, but with killer citrus lemon acidity to keep it fresh. Sautéed green apples in butter….exotic honey, chalk dust, match strike, creme brûlée, white flowers….sneaky alive….plenty and minerality and freshness to go with all the richness…nothing really blew off here….but I really liked it!

2001 Burgundy Grand Cru Dinner (Park Palace, Grand Park Hotel): What a lovely way to start the evening. This was a lighter, more elegant expression of Pucelles than what I would normally associate with Leflaive, but boy was it drinking nicely. It had an almost pretty nose, with lovely aromas of ripe yellow fruit and lemon peel, together with a little perfumy, floral note and, with time, a touch of earthy mineral and a little steely tang. This was less stony, gunflinty than usual, rather less showy. The palate had a lovely finesse to it, with lemony juiciness running through flavours of green apples shading into redder varieties on the midpalate. While there was good depth, it was not as powerful as certain vintages. However, the wine was finely detailed and had a lovely litheness to it. Nice finish too with a round, supple mouthfeel and subtle length to its flavours of white fruit seasoned with a little spice. This was unusually elegant and very delicious. Good stuff, drinking beautifully on the night.

Beautiful wine - tightly structured and minerally, with attractive gun flint characters and hints of citrus leaves in a classic high end Puligny context. Refined, complex and with great power; another Domaine Leflaive triumph. Ready now.

Decanted, and then poured about an hour later (with a taster after opening). This starts off with a bit of sulphur and a fair bit of oak. The color in the glass is light gold, deeper gold in the decanter. The sulphur almost completely dissipates over time, and while the oak is certainly ever-present, the kaleidoscope of aromas and flavors which develop take center stage. Marzipan, pear and some light spice notes seem to weave in and out, with a beautiful tension on the palate. Then a little mint and dried apricot. If I had to guess, I would say this needs more time for the oak to fully absorb, and allow the wine to develop further. This never gets tiring, and seems to reveal a different facet every time I go back to it.

Nose: Ripe peach (almost a bit guava like) plus roasted almonds (not as hazelnutty as some Leflaives) and nice complex smokey overtones. Stylish and refined - tense and tight.
Palate: Tightly structured with good degree of acid throughout a concentrated palate having some attractive honeysuckle characters over a lemonny seam throughout. A classy wine of great breeding (as expected) but showing as if from a good vintage but not a great one (as does not have the fruit concentration of the great 2002's). A very impressive wine, at its peak now.

Complex flavors and aromas for a 1er Cru. This rich full bodied white is apple, peach and honeysuckle balanced by precise minerality and Grand Cru textures and finish. A beautiful wine.

Surprisingly restrained for Leflaive Pucelles. Raw, light citrus notes and high-pitched wintergreen flavors. Lighter bodied, and very structure-heavy at this stage. Firm. Nice wine; needs time.

Had this out of a half-bottle at 11 Madison (NYC) and it was absolutely top notch. Loaded with classic lemony flavors and has that great fullness and lift that top Leflaive's possess. Drinking very well now with a beautifully concentrated, long, minerally finish. A great Pucelles that just a few years away from peaking.

A few days in Burgundy; 7/13/2006-7/17/2006 (Cote d'Or): Smoke, gunflint, and lemon curd notes but a background hint of TCA. Bold, mouthfilling flavors and a wonderful minerallity but by the second glass cork taint becomes quite apparent. A shame as there's some great stuff under there.

ASV gala. Excitement of a wine at its apogee, similar to Folatieres. All citrus, purity and resolution.
