Bought a couple of bottles 15 years ago and this the first I’ve tried. Very interesting. Wonderful burnt gold colour, reflected in the smell of sweet apricot. Already then a sense of the weight and length of the taste. Very clean rich dark apricot and honey. Not much acidic cut through but very very long, and somehow the purity of the fruit hit keeps it all together. Excellent

3 bottles purchased on release together; two of them light gold; this bottle notably deeper old/burnished gold.
Color/App: full/deep burnished gold; good viscosity, though not at the level of a Rieussec or Suduiraut. Curious nose: almond, vanilla, apricot, decisive and unpleasant note of burnt sugar/oxidation. Palate is distinctly better than the nose, though that is probably just due to the sugar . . . . Sweet and confected, showing again some almond kernel, apricot, peach and finishing with a slight bitterness. There's not a lot of acid here and comes off as pretty cloying as well as affected to my mind. I have to believe this bottle is off its game, even in this (not my favourite) vintage. Not rating this; I'll wait to open one of the other bottles.

Served next to 2015. Much darker in colour. Dried fruit, burnt sugar, orange peel, spices. Lots of weight, a bit out of balance, lacks lift, a bit bitter. Amazing concentration, but a little one-dimensional. 88-91

for once not bought en primeur but from a merchant only a few years back so storage conditions unconstrained, somewhat disconcerting orange-brown colour, usually Doisy-Daëne maintains a pale straw colour to considerable age, maybe a vintage characteristic, nose of strong apricot and almond, still quite fresh, not oxidized (reassuring after the colour), all doubts disappear with the palate, which is just lovely, great intensity and quite sweet but still lifted and light, really persistent and lovely sweet but clean aftertaste, so despite the rather strange colour a very good example, first bottle of six, little to gain from further age and it would be sad to lose the still inherent freshness

Each to their own but for me this is close to the perfect Sauternes: fresh, elegant notes of honey with citrus undertones, without caramel or any cloying stodginess.

Light for a Sauternes, and light in flavor, even for the Doisy Daene's under exaggerated style. Still quite elegant and delicious to drink. This is more of a sweet wine, than a dessert wine if that makes any sense..It goes down really easy. Its drinkable, instead of being a sipper. Still youthful with honeysuckle and butterscotch tones...Very nice. Drink

Northern Rhone wimps — Napoléon Coste (La Trompette, London): Two 50cl bottles with consistent notes. Rich but fresh. Lovely. Fresh pineapple with a pinch of coconut. Well balanced. Wouldn't pick this as 03. Just right with the pudding. ****

Apricot, spices, honey and citrus aromas, with a fresh, elegant mouthful of the same. Great finesse, none of the cloying sweetness of the vintage, a lot better than I expected.

From 375. Medium gold, salmon pink tints. Nose is quite developed, barley-sugar, rich stone fruits and vanilla. Medium/full bodied on the palate, ripe, sweet barley sugar, stone fruit, banana, lacks a bit of acidity on the finish which nevertheless lingers quite nicely and shows some attractive floral notes. Very good indeed.

Sauternes 2010 (and reference vintages) at Le Week-end des Grand Crus (Bordeaux): Utseende: golden yellow Nose: spicy honey, hint of a herbal note (combes as heather honey), dried apricots, baked apples, some glue and solvent note. Palate: sweet+, spice, quite concentrated fruit, dried apricots, overripe yellow fruit, balancing acidity. Summary: shows the character of a hot vintage and is clearly developed, 91 p.

Union des Grand Crus de Bordeaux Tasting in Bordeaux (Bordeaux, France): Golden in the glass. Nose is very appealing with lots of tropical fruit. Honey and vanilla. Palate is super sweet. Rich, lush, powerful and packed with concentrated layers of sweet, ripe, honeyed apricots, pineapple, vanilla, flowers, candied orange rind and nuts. There is a good balance between sugar and acidity and a long finish that lingers with apricots and honey.

Commanderie de Bordeaux: 2003 Left Bank Dinner (Pastis - Vancouver, BC): Incredibly ripe and sweet on the nose showing aromas of pear, icing sugar, apricot, baked red apples, and honey. Tons of gingerbread spice on the palate, along with more icing sugar, baked red apples, and a note of burnt caramel. Low acidity, with a medium length finish ending on notes of oxidized red apple and burnt caramel. This was overly sweet and soft on the palate and was in dire need of some acidity to help bring this into balance. While not bad, this wasn't exciting in the least and lacked the complexity that this usually offers in cooler vintages. Good

Sauternes at Le Weekend des Grand Crus 2012 (Bordeaux): Nose: honey, citrus, some spice. Not that pronounced botrytis notes. Palate: spice, honey, dried fruit, rather good acidity. Slightly “coarse” compared to several of the other wines in the same tasting. 90-91 p

Nose: apricot, tropical fruits, sweet spices, cream, coffee, toast. Quite complex. Mouth: dense body, soft, creamy texture. Deep flavours of fresh and dried yellow fruits, orange peel, boiled apple, honey, cream, botrytis characterized mushroom. The length is mid-plus. Acids are ripe, gentle, rather wide than high. The alcohol heats a bit the aftertaste. Nice Sauternes.

This is just lovely. Apricots and a little orange peel or cumquat on the nose with a palate that is not too thick or oily but has just the right sweetness. Slight alcohol hit initially on the tongue which will probably fade. All round lovely wine.

Decanted two hours. Nose is fairly light for a Sauternes, showing cantelope with syrup on top, with some pine needles. Very viscous and oily in the mouth, showing more melon with some burnt wood. The finish is basically the same again. Not very sweet, actually. Delicious, sure, but not very complex, and disappears quickly.

From 375. pale/medium straw. Attractive floral and saffron notes on nose, perhaps a little too much oak. Quite full bodied on the palate, floral, oak too prominent at present, decent concentration, not exactly cloying but does lack a little acidity on the finish.

Partnered with apricot trifle. An elegant, distinctive pudding wine, not sickly sweet but with well defined boundaries between orange peel flavours, apricot fruits and toasty honey - also some herbs. No doubt it will improve further over coming years, but it's drinking great now already. If you like sweet wines without them being too sweet and sticky, then this is one for you.
